- After a livery reveal last month, McLaren has now launched their 2024 car, the MCL38. But upon looking closer at the car, it seems McLaren is hiding some developments they don't want other teams to spot. Steph Wentworth chats with Jon Noble and Matt Kew to discuss McLaren's hopes for the upcoming season, what their drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri need to do this year, and whether McLaren can really fight for the top step.

They do seem oddly confident for a team that is usually 'Under promise, over deliver'. Even now, Stella is talking about not finding massive gains in future on this car (understandable given diminishing returns as cars get closer to their ultimate potential), but still couldn't resist dropping in things like 'interesting things to come' on this car suggests they have some real confidence of something up their sleeve.
Actually think he had said they hadn't been finding diminishing returns i.e. they're still finding (according to them) good time comparable to last year's leaps I think was said as well.
@@teslaraiden8514 i think it was meant RE later season development as more like 'We're still consistently finding time and on a good path but don't expect us to then also suddenly find over half a second with an upgrade package mid season like last year because that was from a low base, this one is actually decent to start with'

Hopefully this is the start of it. Looking around the grid I think it’s going to be extremely close in the midfield and then we ll just have to see how quick the rb20 is lol 😢

First half of the season, Piastri was having to deal with getting used to a new level of performance AND McLaren giving Fraudo Norris all the upgrades sometimes several races in advance to him. Come second half of the season when his car finally got upgraded close enough to Lando's, he beat him consistently. Was faster on pace and in results the second half of the year. It's time to stop gassing up Lando. He's more Coulthard than Hakkinen.
