      @timtannahill9 very interesting you brought that up because I was thinking how similar these two trail shoes are whilst running in the Peg Trail 5. I’d go for the Pegs because they’re more stable. The Cloudsurfer trail is a more plush however. So I guess in answer to your question, light trails with no technical stuff, the cloudsurfer trail could be your shoe if you like a lot of cushioning and control is not as important. Here’s my review of that shoe in case you haven’t watched it yet: th-cam.com/video/-lx3tKBt4Xw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PKwAb_Y8WqSkhmPJ

So comfortable that I had to give away my HOKA Rockets, Mach and Cliftons. Some kid in Africa is wearing them now thanks to Soles for Souls. With that said. I've ran em in the road and in the trails. Feels great. The carbon won't be as pushy compared to Road Version Race shoes. BUT. The Zoom X is where this shoe shines . Can't really put a template on the overall review because.. Terrain defines every shoe performance out there and everyone who wears these shoes will have both positive and negative reviews based on the area and conditions they live in.

    It’s a pity, I have the trail 2 gortex (blue and orange) and it has been unbelievably amazing to run in on Table Mountain and adjacent Lions Head. The shoe not only felt good, it looked pretty slick aesthetically. Then came the 3 and 4 and from an aesthetics perspective, it went from bad to worse in my opinion. I like the look of the 5 but concerned that it will hold up in the mountains where the runs are very technical. Also I feel that my trail 2 provides amazing support on technical terrain but performs equally well when hitting the road surface. Also I’m wondering if the change in lugs that was introduced with the 3 (I think) is indeed better than the lugs on the 2? Coz I’m happy with my grip on the 2

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The grip on the peg trail 5 is better than any previous version thanks to the new compound mentioned in the review. It handles moderate trails very well and even some technical stuff especially considering it’s a hybrid shoe. If you need a trail shoe for really technical trails, I can help you find the right shoes for that.

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! For the most part they feel very similar on the roads… the peg trail 5 feels a little flatter under the forefoot though as there’s no zoom X unit under there like the Peg 41 has BUT the peg trail 5 feels softer (more cushioned) elsewhere (under the midfoot and heel) due to the higher stack height in that area. Peg trail 5 has much better traction should you hit wet roads, or dirt roads. I’ll publish a community post on our channel in a minute just for you..

    That high drop is insane to me especially for a trail shoe. Most trail shoes don't have a drop bigger then 5mm and Nike is like fuck it, we'll double it. I can't image this is great for doing downhill, I don't need to be pushed forward even more by the shoe on the downhills.

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      lol yeah, it could be so much better on trail with a lower drop, but it’s a hybrid shoe so they’re catering to those who want a shoe to do road and trail, and most of those people are likely already familiar with a higher drop - like in the Pegasus road for example. It works for the Pegasus Trail line due to its crossover nature. Also, it doesn’t feel like a 9.5mm drop at all, feels lower (which is a good thing).

    • @Kaisersozze
      @Kaisersozze 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Kaisersozze It’s probably less than 9.5mm if anything, hence it feeling less in my tests. Also, that repeatRun site is the biggest bag of crap (they used to steal ours and other hard working reviewers content, all the time and then use our review results to rate shoes back in the day). Now their strategy is to cut a shoe in half, prod it, and give it a score based on nothing other than a few lab experiments. They don’t even run test the shoes, and still call it a review. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Unfortunately that doesn’t give runners the best insights into how well a shoe actually performs in the environment it was intended to be used in.

I’m never one to complain like this, but I think it’s important to speak up sometimes so that others are aware of what’s going on in the ‘review landscape’ at the moment.

      i don’t buy a lot of shoes. My last pair was peg 38, i find the peg trail 5 quite loose overall and toe super wide actually 😅
