Just took this untested (I play rippers in cc) to Nottingham skirmish. Went 4-0 in swiss then immediately lost top 4 cos king of swiss curse is real, but deck is sick
You put a target on your own back - got to submarine your way in to top cut haha. Still a great result though and happy to hear that you liked the list! We are putting Riptide on the map.
Can you tell us a bit about your sideboarding. Which cards do you consider part of your main deck and which ones are match-up dependant? Remorseless, Battering Bolts and the red traps maybe?
Sideboarding was not something that I had fully figured out due to time constraints, so I sort of based it on CC sideboarding, the playstyle of the deck I'm against, and what my plan is. Against the Emperor for example, I took both red traps out for several reasons. Firstly because it's basically a race due to my low ab so I want aggressive cards, and I think the only buff the emperor runs is sometimes nimblism, so I wasn't going to get much value from inertia, and the frailty trap, although it would likely trigger, wouldn't do much either as they use waning moon. Plus them being red means they can only pitch for 1 ab at a time. Remorseless always stayed in because it works too well with Dreadbore. Battering Bolt I can't quite remember but I may have sided it out against Dash (I knew it wasn't turtle Dash) to fit in all of the traps. I was mostly either removing irrelevant traps, reds for AB, or buffs to improve my overall block values (premeditate was always the last buff to go out because it's the most consistent one). Main board was always the 0 and 1 cost attacks, non-arrow attacks and codex - you know I love my consistency!
And it blocks 3! It genuinely can be endless - I have had games in which my opponent was super aggro, so I just repeatedly recycled EA into the arsenal while blocking out with my hand every turn.
Thank you! Even when I lose I have fun with Riptide because he's just a really fun and versatile hero to play so I will always recommend players to give him a try.
Can I suggest playing Last Ditch Effort in place of Rememberence or Sigil? An endgame with 2 LDE, 2 intoxicating Shot, your L traps, and your quiver is very tough for an opponent to navigate.
I have actually considered this for lists in the past when looking for blue block 3's. But, although I did fatigue a few people and had long games, for the most part I wasn't close to getting fatigued myself, so I don't think I would have got any offensive value from LDE. It would probably fit better into slower Riptide builds, and if I had to cut either the Remembrance or Sigil for it, I would cut Remembrance as Sigil in Blitz is op!
@@tradefederations1628 I understand. My list is slightly different than yours. The ratios of arrows/pumps/traps and tech are very similar though. Also admittedly I play more constructed vs blitz with Riptide. That being said I don't play to fatigue at all. I play very aggressive early game more like Lexi, trying to have muti arrow turns or a pumped arrow that requires several blocks. I play more blues than your list and they all go to pitch with an occasional red arrow thanks to Trench. My late game has been 6 blues many times. LDE in Arsenal. Draw up, block with one card, pitch blue, LDE for 8 from Arsenal, go again, pitch Blue, LDE from Arsenal for another 8 OR Quiver to bring back arrows. Your next turn can then be another LDE + arrow. That's a lot of pressure on late game hands. With the new Reel In card you can also possibly empty your deck on your opponents turn and not have to give up blocking while doing instant speed damage as mentionedin the other comment. Cards like Cash In or 3 of a Kind also can do this a turn early with the right setup. I'm not critiquing you at all btw. I love your list. I was just sharing some of my testing (mostly constructed) to give you some ideas. There are not a lot of innovating Riptide players.
@@BBpaintball I hadn't read any of what you said as a critique - but discussion and feedback are always fun! Especially with Riptide because there genuinely seems to be so many good ways to play and build the deck. Everyone seems to have a slightly different take on the character, and I think LSS have done a really good job in giving us a non-linear hero to play as. And to referring to testing in CC, my list actually was mostly tested in CC - I basically transformed it last minute for blitz haha! So there is a fair bit of crossover it would seem.
Can you talk a bit about why you don't run the OG Traps (Pitfall and Tripwire). Is it a similar reason as to why you run Dreadbore over Death Dealer in that you prefer the consistency over the option that is vastly above rate?
Ye I mentioned it briefly at the end of the video, but essentially, it is due to their lack of flexibility and inconsistency. For example, the Outsiders traps can trigger Riptide's hero ability, the Crucible ones can't. So if I have a hand of say a 0-cost arrow and 3 traps, in one scenario I am fine because I block 9 and load the arrow for free (Outsiders traps), in the other I am potentially screwed (Crucible). I also have quite a low trap count, so I am not going to regularly get them from my hand into arsenal on my opponents turn, and I don't want to increase the trap count for consistency reasons and also just for the fact that I want to the deck to have good offensive capabilities. I have never really liked them that much because of this, but the new card in Heavy Hitters may change this!
They do get a guaranteed 1 damage for playing them though and the additional resource costs can affect a player's playlines. The yellow Pitfall trap can be 3 damage. With the new spoiled instant for Heavy Hitters, Riptide basically has a StormStriders effect in the late game where he just wins when an opponent gets below 6. I run 2-3 in constructed for certain sideboard packages, but I agree that Blitz may not have space for them.
Thanks! The two I sided out most were Remembrance and Sink Below (probably the least used card), and I would side out Sigil's into fatigue match-ups. Besides that I just sort of winged it, certain arrows went out if they weren't really relevant (always kept in the 0-cost ones) and if I really wanted to block a lot I would lower my count of buffs, with bloodrot usually going out first.
I see what your saying about pitfall trap I just think it way too much value to ignore whereas boulder trap is getting maybe a damage and a negative one counter on opponents in blitz who dont have that big of a fridge to justify it. Throw Oasis Respites in imo. Another instant like sigil that activates riptide to get the trap in arsenal. Other than that great work!
The Oasis I think I agree with as a replacement for Sink Below. But regarding Boulder Trap, putting it on a 2 block battleworn or temper (even better) equipment means it gets the exact same value as Pitfall at the point of activation. The ability to load an arrow if you play Boulder from hand also adds value to it over Crucible traps (not to mention being able to just play it from hand in the first place), and getting rid of that armour works really well in tandem with Dreadbore, because now my opponent is forced to empty out offensive cards from their hand - plus, if my opponent does have to block with armour at some point, then they will likely have to give me good equipment that they didn't want to block with, like a Mask of Momentum or something, because the Boulder Trap put counters on the less important equipment (which came up in some of my games). So the long term value it can offer is great, and in my opinion outweighs the damage that Pitfall does. Until Heavy Hitters comes out, I will die on the hill of Crucible traps being too limiting in any Riptide list outside of fatigue haha!
@@tradefederations1628 it’s to be expected. Your running a really aggro list with not as many traps. Hence a pitfall can kill you and not them. I do think with the addition of Reel In come heavy hitters LSS is telecasting Riptide as taking that role of fatigue deck in the meta. Playtesting it as a proxy has produced awesome results
@@codyblackmore7754 Ye for sure, and it makes him more consistent for turns where he really needs to block out big time. LSS have really been treating us Riptide players with imaginative new cards in the expansion slots!
Great profile and congrats on the result! Sounds like that Ira player got unlucky in top 4 😜
Made up for the luck in swiss ;)
what a coincidence running into you on talishar while testing the list, thanks for the match!
Likewise - hopefully it'll convert you from Death Dealer to Dreadbore...
Is this good against briar?
Haven't played much into her but I don't see why not, this deck is good at blocking so it can weather CMH turns quite well.
Hi Tim. Congratulations on winning the biggest UK Skirmish.
Are you ok linking this video onto the meta report?
Thanks! And ye absolutely, do you mean in the comments section? If so I already did it haha!
