The woman was Emma Freud. Wife of Richard Curtis who co-wrote Blackadder and made films such as 4 Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Love Actually. She was once a TV presenter here in the UK and still works as a script editor.

The joke in the beginning was that she had presumably written her own description, unlike the others, whose partners were accredited with their descriptions.😊

"The Darling Buds of May" was a TV dramatisation of the novels by H.E.Bates aired in the early 1990s and starring (among others) David Jason and Catherine Zeta-Jones. It was very popular. Pop Larkin's character was known to say "Perfick" (perfect) a lot.

Being the age I am, I recall these shows when they were broadcast. Hysteria and a few others, were sort of gala comedy nights to raise money for certain causes.

Emma Freud is great, haven't seen her for years but she was a popular TV presenter around that time, she has quite the family line, her father was Sir Clement Freud and Sigmund Freud her great grandfather but she was also the niece of the incredible artist Lucian Freud who I've always been a huge fan of.

Just reminded me, it would be worth checking out Rowan Atkinson live in Belfast. Pretty sure I have it on vinyl somewhere, but some of the classic sketches include, The Devil, The curry house, Fatal Beatings and others. All them carefully scripted and perfected no doubt, over many performances.

As you've been introduced to Emma Freud, it's worth knowing that another Emma - Emma Thompson - did quite a bit of work with Fry and Laurie in the '80s.

Each one was meant to sound typical of that writer, ie H E bates the first one, then tom stoppard the second one etc, the only reason I understood the second one was cause I read some of his play "Rosencroits and guildestern" are dead.

The American film "Shag" (1988), did not deliver on it's title's promise. Instead we got another one of those naff Americana films about dancing and fly fishing, set in the 1960s. What a lousy rip-off.
I call this false advertising. This happened again with Saving Private Ryan. It had nothing to do with D-Day. The soldiers seemed more interested in doing gay stuff and shaving Ryan's tackle. Disgusting.
The next time I go to the cinema to watch an American film, I'm leaving my hand cream at home.
