My experience with stuff is buy new if its important. Buy old if you are ready to go over everything and make it right. Sometimes the costs are the same but the work far less with new. So excited for you here.
I’m going through a really stressful time right now, looking for work and going through tons of interviews. Watching this whole process through your eyes is a great, enjoyable distraction. You guys are the best.
I have started watching you guys from the beginning……..wow…..got to this and how you’ve chosen your design…….from scratch……love to be able to do this…..fantastic project…
I recently found you two and now watching from your very beginning. I love your upbeat attitude and find you guys complement each other perfectly, I see just why you have been together for so many years. Love from Canada.
Hi, new to your channel, but just wanted to say how much I love the vlogs. Stumbled across your last few so I am now watching them all from the beginning. It's a great feeling watching your boat being built from a shell to the finished article. I am so pleased for you I am going to open another bottle of wine and watch some more. Cheers guys.
Envy , jealousy and madness gnaw at my vitals! This is the boat for me exactly ! Lucky fishes and well done your patience and rigorous investigation has paid off !
So pleased for you. Can't wait to see it all coming together and then actually taking to the water. You chose the right part of the country to get her built in, speaking as a Merseysider ☺️! Wishing you both well x
"I'm so excited just can't hide it "....... such amazing news. What a great start to the next chapter in your life we will be following along here in Cayman...All the best Mark, Jean and Hedgewick 🐶
Love that you've found your dream boat! I love the "cheekiness" that you two share. I look forward to each & every new vid you post! Hope things don't get to overwhelming for you Colin! Maybe an extra glass of wine or a high ball might help! ;)
Just catching up on the videos, so looking forward to seeing the Narrow Boat take progress from start to finish. Cat Powders we find that a few dreamies or feliway in a diffuser works a treat.
Absolutely love your videos especially the music, I’m like sitting here and every time the music starts I’m nodding my head and tapping my feet to the beat, just love you’s both x
Great idea to film right from the shell stage. Lovely video presentation style guys - very engaging and relaxed. Looking forward to the next chapter :)
First of your blogs I've watched and it was great - I'm excited to see the progress. Me and my hubby are on the verge of having a boat built - exciting!
Foxes Afloat I’ll be following you both all the way, hopefully I’ll pick up a lot of tips from you. Our dream is to have a boat built, and we are a couple of yrs away from achieving it. Hope you both enjoy every minute of it. Xx
Congratulations on your new boat lads... looking forward to watching the build especially the solar system your fitting. Our own countdown is on ! House goes on the market next month. We have decided on a wide beam on the Kennet & Avon... will look forward to bumping into you guys on the cut !
Awww, wow guys, you must be so excited! We're looking forward to seeing the K&A, heard great things! And a wide beam too... The luxury of space. I envy you! Yeah, definitely got to have a tea and cake if we pass. x
Haha deffo invited for afternoon cream tea, I will bake the cake myself! We were going to make you a boat moving in pressie.....cake bungs with a cherry in the middle as you do like a cake! But like us.....not so keen on the bungs 😂 Have you thought about mirrored/ privacy glass on the windows? Super excited for you and us, enjoy every smile along the way x
So this is the video we meet Narrowboat Silver Fox in its barest of forms. But may I ask how did you decide to come up with the name for it, or was it something you had planned to call your boat from the start if you got a new one? at 0:29 it was really sweet, it was as though you were welcomg a new addition to the family, and you were filled with excitement thats for sure, and I am really glad you decided to follow what you wanted in the end, the man thing is you are happy, you can have everything you want in a boat to your specifications etc, you took the risk and by gosh, no regrets, Shaun is definitely happy at a new new boat and Colin gets the side hatches on both sides, I was really glad I ventured all the way back to the beginning and will catch up eventually to present sort of day, though you are always a weeek r two ahead when you release your vlogs anyway, except when you do the live specials...
We didn't plan the name at all. We saw one other silver boat that Bickerstaffe had build and loved the colour and decided that should be the colour. Our surname is Fox, so the name just came naturally xx
Hi guys, We have last night spent our first night on board our brand new boat! - She is not quite finished, however it should be in the next two weeks - just some trim to be finished off. So excited for you. Have a great time. Keith and Kenny.
Congrats and wait wonderful news, looking forward to seeing the progress, of the Shell build and fit-out, I do hope you have Lithium Batteries, and not going to throw money away with Standard batteries which even new ones give you problems, as seen with "Journey with Jono", , Cheers :-) PS: Dont Forget The BUNGS!! ^5
Thanks George. Lots of different opinions when it comes to batteries. As with the boat builder and fitter, we’ll do our homework and go for the set up that’s right for us 👍🏻
Yayyyyyy! 🎉🎉🎉 I am so happy for you both! One question - will Shaun get his BUNGS? 😊 I can’t wait to watch your boat being built and the fun you have on it x
Congratulations. Looking forward to all the updates. Those flexible solar panels are great. We have one on the roof of our van. Are you going to travel the canal network or be marina based once Silver Fox is ready? All the best.
I know it's early days in the boat build but have you got anything special lined up for the launch of Silver Fox..??? Best of luck to you guys, Regards steve
Just caught up on your vlogs, and I'm looking forward to this; so many people seem to get shy about they half-done boats, so I've missed out on seeing a lot of the fitting out, really looking forward to seeing this come together! Something that'd be helpful to those coming in late and catching up; could you create a playlist of everything with newest last? Makes it real easy to just go through all your videos from the beginning then. Ta. :)
Hey! 👋🏻 Thanks for commenting. To watch videos in reverse order, (newest last) go the the top of the videos page and change the order from newest first to oldest first. Ta-daa! Sorted 👍🏻
Can I ask why you had the boat built at one company, and it fitted out by another company? We love your videos, funny, friendly and so informative. We are just starting to explore buying a widebeam.
Fantastic news, congrats. And well done on all that research - well worth it I expect. Looking forward now to following the build and fit out. My only question is who took that footage @4:37? The drone? Dillon? Aliens?
Hello lads, congrats on your final purchase, sorry I’m late to the party, may I ask why you guys decided on narrow over wide beam to live on, I’d love to do what you guys are doing, it’s just convincing the hubster....🥴
Hey 👋 We 100% wanted a narrowboat because we want to be able to reach all of the canal network (well, 99% off it). You're quite limited with a wide beam. They're better if you plan to stay in one area or aren't fussed about travelling the network. Good luck convincing your hubby 😂
Foxes Afloat thank you boys for your insight, yes well that makes sense. I think I’m making headway with my significant half, we’ve had allot going on to deal with in recent months but slowing coming through to the sunnier side. We both want a complete lifestyle change, I was crew for a flag carrying airline and travelled all over the world, gave up my wings when I got married and added Lola the frenchie to our little family, it’s been tough settling into the normal stressful working world of 9-5, to be fair I hate it, I’ve been watching vids on you tube on canal boats for a while then came across you guys yesterday, delighted isn’t the word.....😃 you are both inspiring, I can so relate to your mental health and it’s so very important for us men to talk more about it that bottle it as we do, so thank you 🙏🏻 I’m lucky I have a very supportive husband too. Time for change upwards and onwards, keep going with your life inspiring vlogs. Thank you both. Xx 😘
hi guys great couple of videos so far but can I ask why you chose your shell builder you mention it in the video but don't give a specific reason? only asking as your thought process may help others and the shell is often over looked against all the glossy stuff.
Hi Karl. Brilliant question! You’re absolutely right that the shell is often overlooked, which is why we spent so much time researching them, and shell builders. We’ve got a vlog coming soon explaining our thoughts and reasons for choosing Aintree, so I don’t want to give too much away here 😉 Let’s just say that after talking to hundreds of boat builders and owners, we were shocked at the amount of mis-information about shell builders. Feel free to message us any specific questions. Cheers for asking! 👍🏻
Hey fellas! Love your vlogs! As a question, how does getting the shell and the fit out separately work? Did you have to contract with each company separately (so that it's two separate services) or is customizing the shell through Aintree a standard part of getting a Bickerstaffe? (sorry if this is a simple question or has already been answered somewhere else!)
Hi guys, greetings from New Zealand, just subscribed to your channel. Your new boat build sounds awesome will follow with great interest. What is the build timeline before setting off on your first trip. Brian
Wow thats quick Will you park up for the winter or move around I'am sure you will be warm and cosy these new builds must be well insulated and have a very effective wood/coal burner installed.Looking forward to future updates Thanks Colin & Shaun (yet to see Dillon) Brian
We may not move aboard straight away. Perhaps wait till the spring. We don't have any plans to moor anywhere, we'll be continuously cruising after our first week or so at the launch site.
I've just started watching your videos/channel... and living vicariously through them. We (much better half) and I had a 42 foot hire boat for a mid-week out and back on the Rochdale a few years ago and decided we wanted to have a longer trip on a narrowboat. Planning for that longer trip started in 2019... but the trip has been delayed from 2020..to 2021 to 2022. Apparently there is some sort of pandemic thing going on. Planning is an important hoop for us to jump through as we live on Canada's west coast and while we have toyed with the idea of doing the retired aboard a narrowboat thing, there are immigration, tax and residency concerns. So here (finally) is my question. What is the lead time on a new build? From the moment you slap down the initial deposit, how long does it take (roughly) to get the hull into the water?
That's a tough question. Some builders have boats available to buy 'off the peg'. Bespoke or semi-bespoke can take anything from 3 months to over a year. Each builder is different.
I thought you said last time you looked at a Bucket staffs.that they do not do custom builds.i.e they build a boat to their specific. and then sell it ?
Hi there this is good news for you both congratulations. Can I ask you both a question what type of jobs do you both have sorry if I have offended you two. Ken M.
I would have loved to see the floor plan too. When i eas younger i wanted to build avhouse. I probably looked at 10,000 floor plans or more. Stacks 3' high of magizines and books,...drove me batty..
Those solar panels are very low power. A single roof mounted panel comes in at 375W each.Put 4 down the middle and you are getting some serious solar.Yes you cannot walk on them but there can be plenty of gaps for access along and across the boat. I would match the higher power cells with LFP batteries which are cobalt free, long life, robust and high power density. The curved flat panels will look nicer but you are losing a lot of power. Also if a newer technology comes along how easy are the curved panels to take off and replace? Also do not put anything on the panels. A rope, coat or anything that blocks a few cells will ruin your already low power gathering.
Well done! I am so stoked to follow along with you, even with Shawn wetting himself every now and then...
My experience with stuff is buy new if its important. Buy old if you are ready to go over everything and make it right. Sometimes the costs are the same but the work far less with new. So excited for you here.
Thanks Andy!
Lol you two remind me of a couple of kids the day before Christmas....... Can't wait to open your pressies 😂👍

Great name!
Only name we could choose really 👍🏻
Really pleased for you and hope we see you on the incredible Leeds Liverpool. Do you mind sharing how much your boat cost?
Anne Clarke Hi. We are still looking at the final price because we are having a few extras. I think their basic starts at about £97k
awesome... after the last vid I was sure you were going for the Swan...
They're great guys making great boats! 👍🏻
Congratulations. Looking forward to all the updates. Those flexible solar panels are great. We have one on the roof of our van.

Hey Steve! We’ve not planned anything for the launch yet (it could be mid-winter), but I’m sure we’ll not let it happen without a bang 💥Cheers!
I have fast forwarded to the end result
LOL!
Did you have to sort the shell out , then have it sent to bickerstaffe for fitting, or did bickerstaffe, sort everything , regards Gaz
They sorted everything 👍🏻
Just caught up on your vlogs, and I'm looking forward to this; so many people seem to get shy about they half-done boats, so I've missed out on seeing a lot of the fitting out, really looking forward to seeing this come together!

Can I ask why you had the boat built at one company, and it fitted out by another company? We love your videos, funny, friendly and so informative. We are just starting to explore buying a widebeam.
It's normal. It's like buying a brand new house and then decorating it yourself 👍🏻
Fantastic news, congrats. And well done on all that research - well worth it I expect. Looking forward now to following the build and fit out. My only question is who took that footage @4:37? The drone? Dillon? Aliens?
Lol! A GoPro 😂
Did you have any input on the design of the inside?
Yes
And they obviously had good cake.😂🤣
😋
Feliway......achieves enhanced serenity apparently according to packet 😂 think I may try some
🤯

Roughly 3 months, but it might be early 2019 before we move aboard.

Nice one guys well done 👍👍👍
Thank you, Robert!

We have a house at the moment that we’re selling
Hi there this is good news for you both congratulations.
Can I ask you both a question what type of jobs do you both have sorry if I have

Hi Ken, Thank you! Colin is a Radio Presenter and Personal Trainer. Shaun is a driver.
Thank you for your answer, is Shaun like the transporter driver.
yeah
Well done guys xx Wonder who’ll be first to launch - you or us 🤔
So excited Catherine! When will you be launching?
Foxes Afloat - 1st April 😐 2019 🤞
Catherine Simpson You’ve got to be joking? That would be stressing me already!
Foxes Afloat - ‘tis true!
As people here in Flanders say Gefeliciteerd.
Thank you, Ian (Had to Google it) 😂
I would have loved to see the floor plan too.
These suit us fine.
Asking GOD'S blessings for both of you on your journey!
Thanks, Larry
