    We have the Gerber Vise, the only multitool that is not mod whatsoever. It's part of a kit that get use when working behind the bar. The other tools are a retractable bottle & can opener, a mini Infinity X1 flashlight, a mini pen (3 inches) & a waiter's friend for opening wine bottle with corks. Work smart not hard is our motto. Cheers mate.

    I hope companies continue to make keychain tools. They are so easy to carry, but can still do useful things. My favorite is the Squirt PS4.

    From what I understand of the situation Leatherman is probably eliminating their smaller tools because they still carry the 25 year warranty which isn't a sustainable business model any more. These smaller tools use similar materials but due to their scale are more likely to break or have complications leading to replacements of the tool.
    I imagine this is less likely with the Micra because it either cuts or it doesn't, unlike small pliers where people force the tool beyond its capability.

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a reasonable cause why Leatherman is making these decisions.

    • @canardchronique3477
      @canardchronique3477 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hvacbudget8600 You'd think they'd solve the problem by maintaining the warranty as is for the larger and more durable tools, and reduce or eliminate it for the smaller and more fragile keychain models. Nuking an entire product line seems like an idiotic decision; they must believe their customers are too ignorant to comprehend the distinction...

    Hi, it's funny how Leatherman is discontinuing some models and pushing older models, refreshed with new colors. Also Curl and Bond are good tools(problem pliers tough) but based on older platform. I really don't know what's going on with such a great brand. Victorinox is discontinuing models as well, but still have great variety. Cheers 👍

    I love the look of the Gerber Armbar Drive & the Slim version even more so, but the inline driver doesn't lock which is a bone of contention for many, furthermore the blade does so here in the UK I wouldn't be able to EDC it.
    I am sure that if Gerber made a very slim bit driver only, with a lock on it, at the same kind of price point or ideally a bit less due to lack of other tools, they would make a killing. Because there are only a handful of very compact dedicated pocket or keychain bit drivers with bit storage on the market.
    Some like the Big Idea Design Bit Bar ($100) or Ti EDS ($120 in the US, £130 in the UK) are brilliant but insanely expensive for just a bit driver.
    Others are more reasonably priced like the Lever Gear Bitvault at $45 in the US, £40 in the UK, or the CRKT Pocket Driver Stash Tool at $28 in the US, £33 in the UK but according to reviews they are a bit flimsy with major design and/or QC issues.
    The Milwaukee Fastback is a great tool with a built in utility blade holder as well as bit driver, and very reasonably priced at $20 in the US, about the same here at £17, but it's way too big as a pocket EDC tool for anyone who isn't a tradesman, as well as being a bit erm..red.
    Gerber are definitely missing a trick here in not making a compact EDC bit driver only - ideally with a pocket clip. For some of us in the EDC community who are now pocket carrying a folder together with Knipex pliers, instead of a one and done pliers-based multitool, this is the missing link and Holy Grail at the same time! Come on Gerber just do it or make bladeless versions of your Armbar Drives, but this time with a lock on the bit driver!!!

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Gerber Fit with the locking bit driver almost was perfect. The Lockdown Drive that doesn't lock, LoL, is almost great as well. Eventually I hope Gerber makes the locking slim bit driver!

    I agree… Leatherman has the quality thing locked down, but Gerber is certainly offering more options.
    I got my Micra when it first came out, and if I’m not mistaken, was the first “scissor based” tool being offered. A lot of other brands had scissors, but not as the main tool. My only wish back then, was for a larger version. Leatherman and Gerber have always been the first two to do battle on the multitool front, but it sure seems like they don’t compete as much against each other. Gerber cranks em out faster, while Leatherman seems to go slower with new stuff, but spends a lot of time offering varieties of existing tools, such as colors and personalizations, etc..

    A standard 1/4 hex driver is one of the most important tools for me, so I'll probably never own a Leatherman. And this is a small thing, but I don't like the weird, fanboyism around this brand. Compare Squirt PS4 to Dime or Vise and you'll see Leatherman has greater quality and function than Gerber. Gerber is great at making things that almost work right when it comes to smaller tools like these but they never get them to be reliable. I've broken too many Dimes to keep carrying them.

    Gerber is expanding their lineup because they can afford to make the cheap Chinese junk they offer.
    The dime, vise, and Bear Grylls compact multitool ( same as the vise ) are garbage.
    In my experience the pliers aren't strong enough to cut a small paperclip without breaking, and the Gerber dime just doesn't compare in form / functions to the leatherman squirt.
    I love the leatherman micra, but mine is a very early 1st year example from 1996.
    I keep hearing that the current examples don't cut well.

    Just like choices of where to holiday or buying anything really comes down to living wages and care for the environment vs supporting what amount to slavery in other countries, few if any environmental law, and foreign powers.
    Some are happy to have one or two tools at a greater cost than buckets of tools to feed their boredom and lack of work but not everyone is.
