Oh the struggles of living an a dirt driveway in Florida. I agree rock and or asphalt millings would be great for your driveway. Great video Andrew and Inspector Ruger.
Man that looks fun!! I have a suggestion for you in the future from my years of experience spreading dirt on lease roads and building road crossing in the oilfields of West Texas. I would back drag with the large bucket/tractor after you dump the piles. It will help with even distribution of material better than going forward with the tractor. Then come back with mini x and clean up to the height you desire. Great job, I am jealous.
Well this was quite a project. Plus, filming it must have been quite a project on its own! You had your fair share of playing with the dirt with big boy's toys:)))
Shorten your top link some the dirt will roll off the blade more. At times your carrying a lot of material. Also a suggestion always pull your dirt up hill. When the rains come and wash your dirt out it will take it down hill so if you pull your dirt down hill to begin with you will have even more to drag back up hill to fix it. A good rear blade is very useful not many people use them because of the learning curve most people just get box blades. Having a good heavy box blade and a good heavy rear blade is very useful for different things.
I definitely need me one of the blade for my small tractor.... 😢😢😢 My box scraper can only do so much 😞😭... So jealous you get to have that much fun and I'm stuck here watching 😮
Hi Andrew, it’s good you have a clay pit and good heavy equipment to help you out and you know what you are doing. Good video I knew you would get that fixed up!! 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Hey! Love your content. I was searching your channel for some commentary about your ranger. Would love to hear you talk about it. Pros and cons. Thanks
It's older, a 2011 model. We have put a lot of miles on it and overall it has been a wonderful purchase. A few years back it started showing it's age. Now we have occasional electrical issues, changed several injectors and a few minor things. I would seriously consider another one when the time comes.
Hi Andrew, good job of making do with what you have for now. You could try using your roller to see if it would smooth out and pack down a little bit. Not sure what's available in your area for the price, roofing tiles, road milling, limestone..
Nice job love the box blade thinking about that for the roads in the deer woods. I've spent the last 3 weeks running a 340 J Deer pulling a Amadas 6 row combine helping my bud gather 1800 ac of peanuts got 200 more to go hopefully after this rain we will be done now that we can plow up dry corners next week. Solis doen't show the box blad it must be like the 75 coming soon?
@@TKCL I went to the Solis website opened thier products list and maybe I just missed it but I didn't see it. I'm also watching how that 75hp tractor does I think it would make a great deer woods tractor.
Nice job TKCL👍, Just wondering if there a environmental friendly and economical material that you can use to hard pack the sand so that it won't erode when it rain.
Shame you don't have an old rock quarry back in there too. Borrow a PTO crusher in exchange for a demo vid (I'm sure the big Solis could handle that) and you could have all the crusher run that you could dump and spread. I guess you'd have to dig pretty deep to find rock around there? Cheers!
I took it down because I had several people get mad when thier 100lb dogs broke the ones they built. Even after I specifically stated in the video is was ONLY for small dogs and puppies. I am going to build a new heavy duty version eventually and make a video on that.
If you could find you a piece of 6" or 8" steel pipe, cut a slot for your teeth of your 2' bucket to fit it. Weld a couple of hooks to the side of your bucket, then weld a section of chain to each side of pipe. You will have the best grader with your excavator ever. I have a 8x8 timber that i just grab with my thumb. I am going to get a section of pipe because it does work the best.
I do not have the specs on the flow, but the lift capacity is a little over 900lbs. If you want higher lift capacity (I do) you should watch this video th-cam.com/video/0bX2cTBW4YM/w-d-xo.html They have a premium model that has increased the front end and loader lift capacity to over 1400lbs! That's a HUGE increase and amazing for a tractor this size.
You need to talk to wife about getting a skid steer. Preferably a track type vs. a wheel type. It would've worked alot quicker for ya. Gravel as well but that would've been pretty expensive for the length of driveway you have. Does your county auction off old road millings? That would work very well for your situation. A vibratory compactor roller would be awesome for that.
@TKCL Oh, I know. I am a Quint Driver for a Heavy Highway/Infrastructure construction firm...and I see the invoices for the materials I am sent to get everyday. And we get it at a discount because of the State Contracts. What about Class 5 base? That's like $36 ton up here. Or, if you know where you can get some clay and then mix with your sand? It will pack down better... more solid.
@@MrMERCER10 millings use to be free here because they needed a place to dump. Now the state requires a certain amount be recycled. So as a result you have to pay a premium for any extra.
Ok, I'm not an equipment operator, but couldn't you make a box blade type piece of equipment that has the crown you want for your driveway cut into the backside. Then you could dump dirt and spread it with that, leaving the exact crown you desire.
For your hunting plot you build a compactor out of two small propane tanks… isn’t it possible to build a road compactor like that? A bit bigger and heavier, but with the same principle? And if it I has an hourglass figure wouldn’t that be more easy? Just wondering
I see… thank you for your reaction… I love viewing your content.. even though I don’t use all the information you give, I use sometimes content to pass it to my students as part of their education (I’m a technology teacher) Especially your diy projects to broaden their mental horizons… they love it… especially the big bbq/grill you build So thank you for your effort of educating us the viewers

Thanks

Sadly my top link was maxed put in this video, it's quite long since I went to a hydraulic model. I completely understand what you are saying.
When you have the right "tools" the job is fun!
That's right!
Good job. I had no idea what you were talking about at first. But you did it!
Lol, thanks for hanging in there.
Aaron Tippins "big boy toys" song would be appropriate for this video 💪

Good thing you have your own clay pit as well.

LOL I do get to "play" a lot.
So awesome you have your own Quarry.
It's been a blessing

Nice job on the driveway Andrew. Always fun to get to play with the toys.
Yes it is!

That tractor is a monster!! I thought your John Deere was big.
It's a huge difference!
You need a 1.5- 2" rock base and top wit 3/4 minus and pack it .
That would be perfect!
You're a "road scholar"! Great vid bro
Lol
Great video. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Thanks for watching!
You need a box blade if you're going to continue these type jobs. Skid steer too if you can talk her into it.
I have two box blades, they have their place for sure. The grader blade works better for crowning and cutting in a ditch.
Try flipping the scrape blade backwards and dragging it. It won’t cut and it’ll help smooth out some of the tire marks and high spots.
Great idea! Thanks
Good job! Being a road engineer is tough. By the way, Ruger loves running around in the sloppy mud and could not be happier! 😀
Yes he does!
Thats the 4x4 driveway. Lol. 😜💪
Yep!

It's all so expensive here, I am going to wait.
Hi, Andrew! That sand does look just like sugar. We have mostly red clay up here.
We have some red clay in certain parts of the property, I don't like it. 🤣
@@TKCL me either. Farmers have to heavily amend their gardens.
You need a paver driveway. That would be a lot of coin and backbreaking work
No way my bad back could handle that. Rock is what it will probably be.
@@TKCL that would work too
You need some crush and run for that driveway.
Yes I do!
Needing some limerock! Great vid. Got plenty over here near Brandford for ya!
Yes I do!
Have you considered a few small turnouts along your road to redirect heavy water flow into your woods?
I have been considering that.

Crushed concrete is a good option, but hard to find clean material around me.

There’s always work to be done on the farm.
Got that right!
"Ground Limestone"
Looks good Andrew. That’s a long drive to maintain. You do it well. Did your woods dry out some with the lack of rain?
Sadly I have no idea. There are so many trees down I can't access my woods at all. That will be a BIG winter time project.

Way out of my budget right now, but I'd love one. You have to buy millings directly from the road companies and it's very expensive.

Are you guys in the Palatka area? I have family in Interlachen. I'm asking because you said you worked for GP, or used to anyway.

Ok, I'm not an equipment operator, but couldn't you make a box blade type piece of equipment that has the crown you want for your driveway cut into the backside. Then you could dump dirt and spread it with that, leaving the exact crown you desire.
I could do that, but once the road is set. It's technically not something I would use again.
How big of a bucket can your excavator use?
36-48" for grading and they recommended a 24" for digging. I bet I could easily run a 30 inch digging bucket in my loose soil.

I could, but it wouldn't be worth it since this is the only road I have. Once I get stone on it, it's done other than minor maintenance.

At the tune of a few thousand dollars. I do want some.
