  • Guidelines recommend providing lifestyle advice for patients with early or intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD). But, research shows a gap exists between recommendations and the actual information received by patients.
Sonali Dave from City, University of London, joins our first webinar of the year to share insights from her recent study, which has looked at what people believe to be the main barriers to the provision of lifestyle advice. Sonali’s study was based in 10 different hospital sites around England and included more than 400 participants.

Leutine with xianthin, I've taken it now for years. Look round for best price. I also take zinc on and off because I didn't know about the importance of zinc with AMD. My optician told me about the Leuttine supplements and green leafy vegetables, my lifestyle seems to be what you reccomended, along with daily brisk excersize. I've never smoked, I don't drink alcohol. I'm 75yrs, I was diagnosed about 10 to 15 years ago. I also have annoying floaters since my 20s. Thank you for the information. Some of it is new to me...

I know I should wear sun glasses more and I do get prescription ones, varifocals. But I need new glasses now and they're very expensive, even with Specsavers. I don't have much faith in pharma I don't take drugs, I'm a 75yr old women, do it with supplements but mainly food and healthy eating and lifestyle. Just had my check up and no problems. Won't take statins, won't take blood pressure tablets, won't have pharma drugs that tell me to avoid certain healthy foods.

This shows an amazing failure of the medical system in not giving advice or education to the patients.
