5:14 Wearing gloves when handling old books is actually more damaging than without them and any museum will tell you this. The reason is when you wear gloves you lose some of the feeling in your fingers and that's when rips and tears happen the most. Also, the natural oils on your fingers does not damage the paper in any way.
I have always interpreted the girl as being the Devil - it seemed pretty clear to me especially when she said to Corso, after he killed Telfar's bodyguard, "I didn't know you had it in you?" This for me is telling - like, "I've been tracking you your whole life, and I didn't think you were capable of murder" type of assessment that you would expect the Devil to make. Of course the other thing is how she tracks Corso everywhere throughout the movie. Also, the Devil was supposed to be the most beautiful angel in heaven before their fall from grace, and this girl is definitely one of the most beautiful women I have ever see. So, that's my take on it. I would love to see a sequel where her true identity is revealed to be the Devil, but she has no intention of taking Couso's soul because he has a pure love of his profession.
No. Not the devil. She’s introduced when Balkan says the word “witch” in his lecture. Camera goes right to her. It’s obvious. She’s a demon witch working for the devil. The point of the book is for the devil to be revealed to the person who jumps through the hoops- doesn’t make sense if the devil reveals himself or herself at the beginning. The Ceniza brothers are also demons. Movie makes no sense at all if Green Eyes IS the devil. Think about it.
The book it was supposed to be based on ( Le Club Dumas) was superb. The movie script was a joke that completely missed the entire point and brilliant twist ending in the original story. Even Johnny Depp couldn’t put lipstick on that pig.
@@blabbercast Frank Lan-Gella? Dude, you guys seem like you've never read a book or bothered to watch any of the interviews where Polanski spells out exactly what everything meant. You mispronounce so many names and completely misunderstand the meanings of so many different things that I feel like you are trolling us. It's like the movie "Idiocracy" come to life...Do that one next...
WOW! DEFINITELY a different, "off the beaten path" pick here! Lolol I'll never forget, I use to rent this movie at Blockbuster at least a few times a year in the early to mid 2000's, thinking I was a sophisticated and edgy teenager... now I realize I was just a douchebag!! Lol The funny thing about this movie though is it actually made a career in book restoration and original prints collecting seem cool!
It made me look at books differently and in a good way. Sorry you felt like a douchebag. haha, I just like Depp movies, and the chick was a bonus. Lena Olin aint bad either. Nothing douchey about that.
The Ninth Gate is totally underrated- I love this movie so much.

Haven't seen this one in a while but I remember really liking it. Reminds me a bit of Angel Heart.
Really good flick with great ending.

Great take! I believed she was as well. Certainly gorgeous.
