Hope you like the Zeppelin riffs. Let me know what else you'd like to see covered and here are the timestamps for the tunes: Dazed And Confused: 2:30 Good Times Bad Times: 5:16 Whole Lotta Love: 11:19 Heartbreaker: 18:20 Black Dog: 22:07
*Out On The Tiles* I dont understand how this one is always overlooked. Great tune and a phenominal bass line and it never gets mentioned. One of my favorite Zepplin tunes.
Led Zeppelin turned me from country and western to Rock around late 70s,now at 58 I’m trying learn bass guitar 🎸 thanks for the lessons from Oklahoma USA 🇺🇸
I never realized that the bass played the same as the guitar in Black Dog, nor that there was a 5/4 or something in there. And great that you start by just playing the damn riffs instead of leaving us wondering throughout. Nice!
The Song remains the same is a insane bassline, How Many more times, Ramble on...and so on... John Paul Jones is the best bassline composer of rock and roll..
I am now learning Black dog and I’ve only been playing for about a month and these videos are amazing, I’ve got the first half of the riff down and it’s really building my confidence as a new bass guitarist, thanks Mate for the lessons!
I just started learning Dazed and Confused this week. For a beginner it s a great riff to learn. It’s easy and straightforward. There are some little quick changes that keep make you pay attention. Great video.
Man you're a great teacher! I love that you cover the really technical stuff but then you change it up and throw some really fun stuff into the mix to play! Awesome teacher! Thanks so much for what you do...
JOINT BARREING Holy cow that's such a useful phrase - I've been teaching adults for a while but since early 2023 have been teaching kids music for the first time in an after-school program, and this exact idea has been so hard to quickly communicate to the students, so I end up having to break the idea down over 3-5 minutes, sometimes over a few lessons, because there is no name for it or easy way to refer to it, like "barre chords" - but now there is! Thank you so much! (Plus "so you don't get this kind of chordal effect" is another phrase I'm gonna steal to get that point across to my students, thanks again haha!)
Thank you. When I was 12yrs old, everyone wanted to be EVH. I wanted to The Ox. Small town music shop scammers. "Bring in a cassette of a song you want to learn". Yeah right....My Generation. They laughed. I lost my dishwashing paycheck and got nothing but frustrated. Put the bass away for 7yrs. You have done in 22mins what would have cost hundreds of dollars. Much thanks.
Always enjoy the channel. Iconic Zep bass riffs. There's early video of JPJ playing the opening riff to Dazed with one finger. One plucking, the other fretting. Also bend the notes a bit as it's walked down. There's also video of JPJ playing the opening riff of Heartbreaker between the first and fourth frets using the open A and D strings. That keeps the fretting hand anchored in one place of the neck.
While the opening of Dazed and Confused is pretty straightforward when you get to the long run in the middle when JPJ is hammering his section he’s running to keep up with Jimmy Page. That section will make your hands numb pretty quick. That guy had hands of fire to play like that.
Love that you did this one. JPJ is one of the most underrated bass players out there in my opinion. I'd love to hear/see a tutorial for The Lemon Song. What a great bass line in that one!
Thanks for this lesson. I've always had problems playing this. The joint barre and leading with your middle finger to bounce back and forth has really helped. Your channel is easily the best on you tube
Hi Mark , when I watch your videos it brings new meaning to the old saying "If you like what you are doing , you will never work a day in your life ". Thank you for making music available for those who used to only dream about it . Love your bass , what a fantastic sound .
I realize this video is over 2 years old, but having just picked up the bass again after 22 years (all my gear was stolen and it just depressed the hell out of me as I had spent 2 decades putting together the rig and bass I was happiest about. 4 custom made Marshall 18" bass cabs, with two 300w Tube Ampeg heads making 2 nice stacks and a B C Rich Steal Bass slightly modified for me along with a 1957 Rick (first year Ricks) and I was happy as hell then some fuckhead stole them all and I was depressed as putting that back together would take years and thousands I didn't have() SO THIS has been fun and a real strain to get my finger and hand muscles working again. Mostly though as I only played cover songs in clubs back in the 70s and originals in the 80s on it is fun just to learn a few notes I THOUGHT were right were wrong. Of the various bass channels I enjoy yours more than most. I feel like I am shuffing off rust from my fingers. I've still never learned to slap.
Never know what to say when someone asks me about fave riffs. I've played that many and that much over the years, I don't really have any. I'll have a think and put one together!
Just a little point (second riff of Black Dog) Very first note is not B but open A to D D# E Subtle difference but actually makes it easier to play too
I have been practicing that A to D pinky thing for 2 weeks and still struggling. Half the time it is an issue with getting my plucking finger down there. You make it look so easy.
When my curriculum sports and games and having football shoes at primary 🏫 and secondary 🏫 academic performance UPSR ( 2004) 5C,PMR ( 2007) 4C,3B and SPM ( 2009) 5B+,3C+ I'm very proud of its .
I think JPJ did a bend on the 9th fret instead of using the 10th fret and similarly a bend on the 4th fret instead of using the 5th fret so in that first line of the riff his fretting hand stats in 7th position then 2nd position.
"Whole Lotta Love" is close, but it's the missing the cool dissonance JPJ very deliberately used by bending the fifth-fret A-string D note up slightly while simultaneously playing the open D string. That's what makes the part as distinctive as it is.
Fantastic list, although I humbly suggest that "Ramble On" should have made this Top 5. It's one of the most beautiful and interesting John Paul Jones basslines of all time. 👌
I am not a guitarist, but I listened to JPJ talking about how he played these rifts and it would appear that he would tend not to play single notes, but harmonise over two scales to work in with Page’s riot leading. But then I suppose you are not trying to demonstrate how to play like JPJ, but just to teach the base lines of the Led Zep tunes.
You're a pretty awesome instructor. However, when playing the D power chord from the 5th fret A, I cannot joint barre my pinkie from the D string (A fifth) to the G (octave) without fret buzz on the G string. Because of muscle memory, using my fore finger and pinkie on the D & G string respectively, works cleanly. But, still can't get the timing to syncopate the same as the joint method. Getting a bit frustrated in getting the timing right.
Living Wreck by Deep Purple. Seems quite unknown but really a great bass song, both the chorus and the solo. I've been using the free tab from one of the guitar sites but I suspect it's not quite accurate.
Dazed and confused Instead of separate frets I've seen him bend the B (on the A string) up to the C then release it back down to B. Sounds monster Try it!
Playing Led Zeppelin on this that bass is the equivalent of racing at the Donington Historic Festival in a Suzuki Swift with LED's underneath and spinners on the wheels.
I'll be covering loads more Zeppelin in upcoming lessons. Lemon Song, Immigrant Song, How Many More Times, Ramble On, Moby Dick, The Crunge and No Quarter are all on the list!
When I graduated and convocation ceremony at college ICATS Diplomma Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing and Polytechnic Sarawak's Kuching Sarawak's Level 1 and Level 6 higher national Diplomma certificate minimum CGPA ; 3.89 I'm very proud of its applied for a jobs 1 June 2014 & 6 January's 2014 at Miri Sarawak and Bintulu Sarawak 2015 .
Hi Mark, first of all i want to thank you for all you have done to help me grow so much in so little time. I would really like to learn some baselines from the movie Hair, especially the song Aquarius. Hope you will think that is a good idee to teach. I also was wondering if that bass you are playing is a SR 300? I just bought a SR 500 and i am so happy with it. Now i am starting in a new band and they like to play in drop D and i am thinking of getting a 5 string . Do you think it will help to get the extra string? When i did the audition i was tuned in E and they have not noticed it. I am afraid i will be disappointed if i get the SR 300 because i so love the Jatoba neck with the Bartolini pickups. I don't want to waste my money on a cheap bass i am going to replace in the future.
For some reason learning actual baselines as a bass player has always been my weakness. I know it sounds silly but so many of us just rif off the root chords
TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons: "The Crunge" isn't for beginners. In a weird time, and syncopated, both. "Kashmir" is perfect for beginners. "The Ocean" main riff is very overlooked.

Great lesson Mark, I’m having a blast learning good times bad times. Any chance of doing a stand alone lesson for Ramble On.
Thanks Mark!
Can you do one on "Ain't no sunshine "?
How about the Lemon Song
This A & B sections are relatively simple, C on this is Rockin, (Ramble On) Mark you have to continue these Bass lines! Love ya take care
I’d love to see you do a video about the bass lines of Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath). That would be awesome.
Geezer's work on heaven and Hell as well as Mob rules.. it's one of the reasons I picked up a bass a month ago.
Yeah, a video on Geezer's playing would be AWESOME!
I support this!!
Would be amazing,hé did Steve Harris, Les Claypool and JPJ so geezer would be a great complement
There is Cliff Burton as Well, great job Mark
*Out On The Tiles*
I dont understand how this one is always overlooked. Great tune and a phenominal bass line and it never gets mentioned. One of my favorite Zepplin tunes.
Just about everything Jones played with Zeppelin was freaking great. He's the best in my book
Agreed!

Soo good
And cheerful!

I just started learning Dazed and Confused this week. For a beginner it s a great riff to learn. It’s easy and straightforward. There are some little quick changes that keep make you pay attention. Great video.
The speed and timing of this Led Zep guy is great. As you said John Paul Jones lines are great to learn for many reasons.
Easily the best bass teacher on the tinternet bar none...

Amazing pinky lesson on Good Times… thanks again Mark !
Just wow Mark I’ve tried these years ago on guitar I never really new the bass was what I was trying to play so eye opening.
Heartbreakingly cool, and I’m neither dazed nor confused .
Have you ever done a video on your personal favorite bass riffs?
I'd be interested

love the sound of the pups
Thank you kindly. My band just called out Good Times, Bad Times. Never played it before -- appreciate your pointers!
Ramble on? The lemon song? How many more times?
lemon song for me !!!
Lemon song, definitely !
thank you lesson guy
Mark: Please tell us about that modified Ibanez bass you are playing. I’d love to hear about it!
Can you do a video on 'What Is And What Should Never Be?'
Outstanding!
Hey Mark thanks for the lesson.
Though I`m not sure I think I know the official name for ``Joint Barring `` : Pressure Roll
Living Wreck by Deep Purple. Seems quite unknown but really a great bass song, both the chorus and the solo. I've been using the free tab from one of the guitar sites but I suspect it's not quite accurate.
Great sounding Ibanez Soundgear. What's the model?
I'm your fan
Nice video. What model bass is that?
Dazed and confused Instead of separate frets I've seen him bend the B (on the A string) up to the C then release it back down to B. Sounds monster Try it!
Playing Led Zeppelin on this that bass is the equivalent of racing at the Donington Historic Festival in a Suzuki Swift with LED's underneath and spinners on the wheels.
8:13 Sounds likes Song of Soaring in Majora's Mask.
Could be great if you did the full LZ songs.
Oh I would have done the chorus of Immigrant Song. Too many doubling of the guitar riff. Good choice with Good Times Bad Times though for sure
I'll be covering loads more Zeppelin in upcoming lessons. Lemon Song, Immigrant Song, How Many More Times, Ramble On, Moby Dick, The Crunge and No Quarter are all on the list!

Hello ,Go next lessons about very hard bass slap solo ,please😀😀😀😀
Hi Mark, first of all i want to thank you for all you have done to help me grow so much in so little time.
I would really like to learn some baselines from the movie Hair, especially the song Aquarius. Hope you will think that is a good idee to teach. Can't help asking if that riff you play at the start of your videos is from the Seinfeld show. Thanks for all you do on TH-cam.
what strap are you using on your bass?
love your videos!
Ramble on is the best bass line from Led Zeppelin
can you do the bass line from 'ramble on' -great line
What model bass do you use?
For some reason learning actual baselines as a bass player has always been my weakness.
I know it sounds silly but so many of us just rif off the root chords
Im assuming Ramble on was hussy to awesome, but what pickups are those?
Ramble On was done last week as a separate lesson. The pickups are Sims Super Quads.
Why not Houses of the Holy?
Good call. I'll do some more riffs soon enough. One of my faves is The Crunge!
TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons: "The Crunge" isn't for beginners. In a weird time, and syncopated, both.
"Kashmir" is perfect for beginners.
"The Ocean" main riff is very overlooked.
Man You the Only ONE ,Explainging Bass ,ROUTE.Cheeersz😜😜
those pickups are juicy, what are they?
what pickups are those?
10:15 Hey what did I ever do to you?
JPJ did a tutorial on how he recorded/plays this... He doubles the Es, and I can't quite tell if you're doing that or not because you're ambiguous
No Lemon Song?
In the light?
Funny how many people can't play the Good Times Bad Times bassline right. There is a pickup A before the D in the opening riff.
All of them. We need to know all of them.
how do I stop fret buzz?
Thank you I m trying to play black dog for months Led zepelin-moby dick is a great bass line to.Please make a second video about iron maiden
No no no--the lemon song! where is it? Can't we go up to 6?
No Ramble on? What is what should not be?
How about 5 must know Smiths bass riffs?
Oh man, you missed his best Ramble On, and The Lemon Song LoL
Cool . But a Fender Jazz would be preferable for Zeppelin bass lines
I would have included What is and what should ever be
LED ZEPPELIN
LEd ZEppELiN
LeD ZePpeliN
leD zeppeLiN
lEd ZeppeliN
led zeppelin
Yo, y'alls boy is tweaked out huh? So many quick head movements and blinks. For a second I was like "what!! Trainspotting deleted scenes!"
jack bruce
time stamps please
Where's the Lemon song at? Lol
Am I the only one that hears the overtones from that bass on the open strings?
