I was born in 65. Got to grow up in the late 60s, the 70s, and the 80's. Hard to adult after that. But I grew up. But I have such an appreciation for this music. As far as my tastes go, music stopped after the 90's. I just relive the glory decades. When bands played instruments, could sing, and the music meant something.

69 Severely Disabled Veteran here, this is in my playlist on the Tube. From the late 60s to early 90s went to a lot of concerts and we all seemed to always beg the band to come on back for a final song. This song, and Bob Seger Turn the Page, are in my weekly must-play. Tear in my eyes, or smile on my face, these songs (and many more) keep the depression at bay. Thank You, Jackson. Perfect song.

I'm so sorry for your pain. I too have had to deal with loss, when my husband of 25 yrs died in 2010. The pain of losing a dearly loved companion, and the all consuming grief was like punched HARD in the gut all day every day. His sudden death of cardiac arrest that occurred when he was 'away for a few days' was hard to process. I'm sure feeling pretty much the way I did, living the overwelming shock of an unspeakable loss. Know that grief is a process. It may play out differently for you, but it will play out until it's done. You may never get over the loss, but it will become more bearable with time. Blessings to you, may your grief be bearable. oxo

I worked for Glenn Frey building his studio in Snowmass. He told me about meeting Jackson in Hollywood just off Sunset Strip. Jackson sitting playing a song he was working on. Glenn had just arrived from Detroit carrying his acoustic in a case. He sat down, pulled out his guitar and helped finish "Take it Easy".
Glenn asked if he could record it and Jackson gave him the rights.

This song transports me to a rainy April night in 1978 on Interstate 70. I was driving home from Indiana in my VW and this song came on the radio. I cranked up my Craig stereo as loud as I could without rattling my Jensen speakers. It was a bad time in my life, but music like this helped me through it. Good memories. Great music. Sadly, too much of both are distant images in the rear view mirror now. Keep singing Jackson, and we'll keep listening.

In August of last year, I listened to this in the car with my then-girlfriend on the highway a mere eight hours before we were off to college. We went to different schools, and that ultimately was what drove us apart. I still love her- more than I should after all that she did to me and all that she put me through- but this song is a portal back in time to when things were good. More than anything I wish I could go back in time and say one word to her. Stay. Maybe that's pathetic, maybe that's sad, hell, maybe that's everything that I shouldn't put myself through, but I can't stop myself from wishing. I'd like to think I'm not alone in feeling this way, but you never truly know in this world. To everybody reading this- take care of yourselves, and think twice before you let yourself fall madly, deeply in love. If you protect your heart you can protect yourself. Learn from my mistakes.

I saw Jackson Browne for the first time when I was 19. He closed the show in San Diego with this song as his final encore. I've seen him many times since. He's the working man's troubadour despite his success. He has made a career saluting those who make life happen and all the while making us care. He's still touring, telling stories and keeping us in touch with what matters. His songs are milestones of all our lives. He is truly one of a kind. Go see him when he comes to town. He's as good as he ever was! Much love and peace!

I have always loved this song, from the first time I heard it. Somehow, though, in my now too experienced mind, I had it credited to the wrong piano man; I argued with my husband most of the day today that this was indeed a Billy Joel song. Sorry to both men. I swore it was on The Stranger lp. Yes, I was a teenager when this first came out.

This song has it all. A feeling of melancholia, for the past and a time we will never get back or be able to fully appreciate. Lyrics that seem to warn us as we seem so intent on what tomorrow offers like a kid on Christmas eve, who can't be in the present as they are told of presents coming tomorrow. Yearning to feel a sense of fulfilment we may never fully grasp until we leave this life. A feeling of hopefulness, optimism, and expectation that tomorrow will be better than today or yesterday. A feeling of resilience as we grow from experiences and take them with us on life's road, wherever we go, good and bad. It gives you a sense of purpose for tomorrow, we all need that at times and I hope you find it everyday wherever you search.

Jackson's music resonates over the years. For me, it's the sound of a Ft. Worth Texas repertory theatre group packing up the chairs and amps after nightly shows outside a restaurant at Lake Worth. The piano player would play this every night at the end of the night, in the early eighties.

Well, Jackson Brown didn't write "Stay." That was written by Maurice Williams and recorded by his group The Gladiolas (later the Zodiacs). It is a Carolina Beach Music classic. It is not a part of California pot-smoking culture but rather down-home Southern rhythm and blues. Maurice Williams also wrote the Diamonds' great 1950's smash hit, "Little Darlin'". Look around TH-cam for the Diamonds and MW and the Zodiacs performing the originals.

Today, my mom died at age 86, and I was thinking about our past together. I don't know why, but i opened TH-cam and there was this song in my recommendations. I remember it well. I was stationed at Lowry AFB Technical Training Center in 78/79 , sent by the German Airforce. My wife was with me, and we were both 22yo. When she heard that song on the radio, she liked it immediatley and we got us an 8track-Cassette of the album "Running on Empty" for our car and the vinyl for when we got back to Germany. My wife and I were in love at that time, I so I like to think, but that faded slowly, because she wasn't able to really show love and passion, and our marriage ended after 25years. And now i listen to that song, remembering the good old days with my mom and wife and i am really sad.

      Bonsoir

Those times seemed so much simpler compared to 2020! Listening to Jackson gives me hope music will get us through to the other side of this current abyss. “People,, we’ve got the power to get through this...””. Great times comin’ back...just wait a while longer!

I think he is the best songwriter ever! You think of legendary singers, bands, and songwriters, Jackson Brown has to be #1! Id love to spend an hour with him just picking his brain on writing and the piano and guitar. I play and write songs but his knowledge would be something id treasure for my whole life. Just an incredible person!

Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come and last to leave
    Working for that minimum wage
They'll set it up in another town
Tonight the people were so fine
    They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet they made the show
    And that was sweet ...
But I can hear the sound
Of slamming doors and folding chairs
    And that's a sound they'll never know
Now roll them cases out and lift them amps
Haul them trusses down and get'em up them ramps
Cause when it comes to moving me
    You guys are the champs
But when that last guitar's been packed away
You know that I still want to play
So just make sure you got it all set to go
Before you come for my piano
But the band's on the bus
    And they're waiting to go
We've got to drive all night and do a show in Chicago
    Or Detroit, I don't know
We do so many shows in a row
And these towns all look the same
We just pass the time in our hotel rooms
    And wander 'round backstage
Till those lights come up and we hear that crowd
And we remember why we came
Now we got country and western on the bus, R&B
We got disco on eight tracks and cassettes in stereo
We got rural scenes and magazines
And we got truckers on CB
And we got Richard Pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
    While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play
People you've got the power over what we do
You can sit there and wait
Or you can pull us through
    Come along, sing the song
You know you can't go wrong
Cause when that morning sun comes beating down
You're going to wake up in your town
But we'll be scheduled to appear
A thousand miles away from here
People stay just a little bit longer
We want to play -- just a little bit longer
    Now the promoter don't mind
    And the union don't mind
If we take a little time
And we leave it all behind and sing
    One more song--
Oh, won't you stay just a little bit longer
Please, please, please, say you will
    Say you will
    Oh won’t you stay
    Just a little bit longer
    Oh won’t you stay
    Just a little bit longer
    And the promoter don’t mind
    And the roadies don’t mind
If we take a little time
And we leave it all behind and sing
    One more song

Not just one of my favorite Jackson Browne songs. One of my all-time favorites. I spent nearly two decades full-time and another couple decades part-time in the music industry as a sound engineer/PA system owner and roadie.

I've always thought that this song captured life on the road as well as any song ever written. Set up, tear down, set up, tear down... and in between setups and teardowns, you get to play some music. I'm sure every touring musician knows the feeling... "come on, give us five more minutes before we gotta get out of here. Just five. One more song."

The first time I ever heard the song was at a Jackson Browne concert in Middletown, New York, at the Orange County Fairgrounds Speedway, around 1986, when I was 15 years old. It was my very first concert. I was completely blown away, especially by this song. I went and got myself a $50 guitar from a pawn shop and taught myself how to play. I've been doing it for 35 years now. This will always be one of my absolute favorite songs of all time. 😎🎸

As a musician who’s been suffering from the pandemic I can say this song is an extremely intimately, well worded song. I can’t describe the feeling but this song... this song does. My School band has been suffering financially for years but covid has all but killed it. On top of that we have a new band director who has no clue what he’s doing. All the new kids who come every year... they have no soul in their sound... they see it as only a grade. They don’t understand this feeling, this wonderful world that music is. It’s given me so much... it hurts so bad to see how the life is being strangled from it. It’s not fair. Music is such a vital piece of life! It’s so unbelievably important. During Christmas time, me and a couple of friends grab our saxophones and drive all around our town and play Christmas carols for people who cant financially support themselves. During Covid this year we played for the elderly not just at retirement homes like usual, but for those who couldn’t leave their houses due to Covid. The smiles that we created just from playing a few simple notes... the tears they shed... the words of gratitude they spoke to us... people don’t understand the importance. My generation doesn’t understand. I’m only seventeen I don’t really know why I’m typing this. But this song evokes so much from me.

Someday there will be a memorial concert for all of those who passed , suffered and were struck down during this time. It would be great to hear this at this time. I am not the greatest musician but I will put it on my list of songs to learn.
