Greetings to you all my ancestral homeland- India from Guyana. Mr Shekhar is on point with his facts on the subject matter. It should be noted that when Hugo Chavez was president he once visited Guyana and said this border controversy is an "imperialist invention" that there are more important issues to look at and so he never created an issue. Now his protégé is acting strangely. But as you would have already known there was a meeting held in St Vincent and the Grenadines last Thursday 14th December where both Maduro and our president held talks on easing the tension that Venezuela has indicated through that questionable referendum to invade Guyana to annex the Essequibo region. So, since that meeting the temperature between the two nations especially in Guyana has somewhat gone down a little. But we must remain vigilant. Now, since you've mentioned cricket I'll like to add for those who might be interested that Rohan Kanhai, Basil Butcher, Alvin Kalicharran were all born from the village- Port Mourant, Berbice- this is the eastern county( next to Suriname) of the three counties that make up Guyana; the others being Essequibo and Demerara. It is this very Port Mourant that the father of the nation- Dr. Cheddi Bharat Jagan came from too. Peace out. 🙏🏽🇬🇾

This is true. Britain is the only country that actually took action. Now many of them are calling it a provocation but are forgetting that Venezuela has Iranian militants on the ground and is backed by Russia. Even more messed up is the fact that India and Russia are allies. So whose side is India really on? All the while the Guyanese people are left without security.

@@WinellaooseThing is this memory of indentured slavery has been knowingly or unknowingly been removed from our minds in India. Nobody in India knows about this. This is not talked about, not taught in our history books, not part of our pop culture. I learnt about it when I came to Canada and saw that most major temples here were originally constructed by Indo-Caribbeans. Then I just got intrigued by Indo-Caribbeans and their history. My and my wife's family come from UP/Bihar region so there was a personal push to learn about this too. I mean I am sure some of the people my family knew back then were taken but nobody knows about it.... But overall yeah this is sad. Indians need to reconnect with Indo-Caribbeans. It has been like what less than 200 years, its relatively recent given India's history.

@@nitishkumarsharma6326 I’m not surprised that no one knows. I realized that when I started working with Indians in the engineering field here in NY. Is the India education system the same as it was under the British? I’m perplexed by the fact that this particular part of Indian history was omitted. Half of my family came from Bihar and the other half from what was known as Madras. I remember telling a Punjaban about my family’s Bihari background and I was told not to say that 😂

@@Winellaoose yeah well... what can I say? sad really but yes our education system hasn't reformed as much as it should have. It has reformed but this chapter of the history has still largely been ignored. I have heard that current dispensation has done some work in reconnecting the communities with visa free travel and as Shekhar said honouring Indo-Caribbean folks with Pravasi Bharatiya Awards but there is a long way to go. Personally, at least in Canada I have seen in Hindu temples there is more awareness now of shared heritage. So North America can also be a good place to start rebuilding connections. Another thing is, we were left extremely poor and lacking basic stuff post independence, so focus has mainly been on those kind of things. I hope as we get richer and more confident, we'll start talking about these things more. The geographical distance doesn't help either.

This situation caught me off guard and I fear for my family. It's like one day we're all living our lives in peace and suddenly a threat on the lives of innocent people out of nowhere. That's who suffers the most from invasions, innocent civilians. The Venezuelan army has killed their own innocent civilians before. Look up the "kumarakapay massacre". Now add a generation of indoctrination and several years of severe inflation, hardshipsand poverty. Those are the people that will be coming into Guyana, as soldiers should Maduro order it. Praying to GOD things get settled peacefully once and for all.

This report, unfortunately, badly misrepresents the history of the dispute and the Venezuelan claim: the British empire and Venezuela had had a border dispute, and under American pressure they agreed to settle by internationally arbitration. The court of international arbitration ruled in the British empire’s favor to an unedited degree and Venezuela accepted it, until one of the judges on the panel, an American, years later informed Venezuela that he had been bribed and not ruled based on the facts. No country on earth would accept such a ruling.
Whether Mr Maduro is good for Venezuela is a separate and different matter.
