The audio was terrible, but this performance was so dope it put a smile on my face. Mona Lisa had so much talent back in the 90's, she wasn't as big as she could've been. I know this music industry isn't for everybody but at least she could've explain to her fan base why she's no longer making music anymore.
The performance is live. This talented young lady came to Charlotte, NC and sang a few songs. We were all very impressed. I wish you would get back in the studio, but maybe there's something about the business that turned her away. It can be cold.
lol someone tried to say Mona was lipsyncing? yeah right, she performed at the Apollo when she was 12 and got a standing ovation, at 15 she sang for Hiraim Hicks CEO of Island records at the time who signed her on the spot
@Nicholas Regular you need to do proper research. Aaliyah came into the industry professionally around 1993/1994, even earlier when she was touring with her aunt Gladys Knight. Mona Lisa started in 1996. Get it together 🙄
How can the industry replace her when Mona wasn't as successful as Aaliyah. One had nothing to do with the other; two different styles. Mona had more of a teen Mary J./Faith Evans type of style.
@Simplyshyindc Uh, yes, boo. This is totally live. Trust me. I listen to this CD almost every day to this day and there are ad libs in these live performances that aren't on the recorded version and other slight nuances you'd notice if you listened to it carefully. I know in this day & age it's hard to believe someone can sing this good live with all the auto-tunin' and lypsinchin' that goes on, but Mona was the REAL deal. All the more tragic why she didn't blow up.
Does anyone know what shes doing now?.....i adore her still!......Mona if your reading this"we still love you!......come and do a one off concert in london England!!!!!...
@jeremiahh.5779 Well, I was born @ the top of the 80s, so I was a teenager in the 90s & these songs just take me back. Especially since I studied & emulated a lot of artist, including Mona cuz I was working toward being a singer back them too.. The 90s was the last great period of artists who ACTUALLY had to be able to sing LIVE 🎤 🎛 in order to be considered BONAFIDE! And though it makes me feel EXTREMELY fortunate 2 have been able to witness such quality artistry while my own musical taste were being developed, now with over 2 decades having passed since that great era passed & me having witnessed the complete & utter decline in music, it makes me THAT much more sad actually having a gold standard hold as a comparison against the crap that we have today. If I had grown up with this crap they put out today, then I would know any better. But fortunately/unfortunately I do. But if you know I have good taste, then you must have good taste too 😁. Real rec👁gnizes REAL!
@@dominiquedevereux7205 i completely relate to that sentiment. the 90s truly were a golden era for music, and it's sad to see how much it's changed. artist had genuine talent and knew how to bring it live on stage. it feels like we've lost something genuine in the process. but real recognize real, no doubt.
@jeremiahh.5779 I believe that like everyone else on The Industry 📀 🎭, po-LIE-tricks 👨🏻💼, Mass Media, etc., the dumbing down of music & snatching the "soul" out of soul music 🎶 was INTENTIONAL. Not preaching but spirituality---- NOT 2B CONFUSED WITH "RELIGIOSITY---- is REAL. And Satan --- whoever/whatever you believe that to be is stated to be the "The Prince of the Airwaves 📻 🎶/📺/ 🎞/ 📱." So, it would make sense that to usher in The Last Days we are in, that the music that had been giving us life for decades would be dumbed down & debauched to great a generation of people with such traits. I am UTTERLY convinced that the narcissistic, immoral, vapid society we have now is the DIRECT result of the music 🎶, television 📺 & every other form of entertainment & communication glorifying the base, animalistic behaviors of man & not glorifying the inner attributes we possess as spiritual beings. And I'm not even saying all music should be gospel (and gospel (the INDUSTRY --- NOT THE GENRE --- is JUST AS corrupt, if not MORESO than the secular industry), I'm just talking about speaking to our higher emotions. These 2 songs Mona sang in this performance spoke to my "innerman." Well, 2B honest ---- ALL music speaks 2 our innerman. BUT most of is rarely ask what is it saying. Death Metal 🎸 & Gangsta Rap speaks to the soul, but it certainly isn't speaking Life. As I said b4, I feel blessed to have grown up in what I believe is the richest era of music. But I ALSO feel cursed because the longing for the memory of that "golden age" to become reality & return is almost too much to bear. If I had never experienced such a time, then I couldn't miss it.
Man I miss the days when it was just THE SINGER AND A MICROPHONE on stage……nothing else to distract us…..Just the Person and their Voice Nowadays if you ain’t stripping on stage nobody even pays attention to you….. Thank God for Talent like Mona Lisa., Whitney Houston, Etc
Mona wasn't lip syncing, lol. Do you not hear her harmonizing? That's not on the record. People have been forced to listen to non-singing heffas for so long they think anytime they hear someone who sound as good live as they do on record that they are lip syncing.
I thought SHE WAS 20 something. They marketed her like she was 16 which was her age. If they marketed her as 20 which I thought she was. And tha photos made her out to be. She would have been amazing in her career. Her MOMS stopped her from being great
She was 16 and looked her age. Her music just didn't take off, simple ass that. A mother protecting and keeping her child a child is not stopping her from being great. That pervert mentality is sick.
My girl Mona Lisa!! Hands down one of the best voices of the 90s!! I'd love to see what she's up to these days! She definitely was a gem!
She was singing her heart to every tune! PHENOMENAL 👏👏👏
I saw this performance LIVE and loved it. Still have her CD til this day.
I wish she made it bigger she had a really good voice
The audio was terrible, but this performance was so dope it put a smile on my face. Mona Lisa had so much talent back in the 90's, she wasn't as big as she could've been. I know this music industry isn't for everybody but at least she could've explain to her fan base why she's no longer making music anymore.
hat happened to Mona Lisa? I hope she comes back. She's what the r&b game's missing now.
I so agree
Remember seeing this on Video Soul. Still have her CD-LOVED her growing up!
The performance is live. This talented young lady came to Charlotte, NC and sang a few songs. We were all very impressed. I wish you would get back in the studio, but maybe there's something about the business that turned her away. It can be cold.
Competition was fierce. It’s a shame she only made one album
Oh she fuckin killed this. First time seeing this, and i'm a longtime fan of Mona's
OMG!! THIS STILL GIVES ME GOOSE BUMPS DAMN I WISH SHE COULD REFERENCE ONE OF MY SONGS. SHE IS AMAZING
If I recall this is the last episode of Video Soul I ever remember watching in 1996.
Still listening to her album in 2019!!
lol someone tried to say Mona was lipsyncing? yeah right, she performed at the Apollo when she was 12 and got a standing ovation, at 15 she sang for Hiraim Hicks CEO of Island records at the time who signed her on the spot
I wish someone would post the video of her singing @ the Apollo!! That'd make my LIFE 2 see that.
What a
Beautiful voice , Aaliyah vibe
@Nicholas Regular Aaliyah came before her
@Nicholas Regular you need to do proper research. Aaliyah came into the industry professionally around 1993/1994, even earlier when she was touring with her aunt Gladys Knight. Mona Lisa started in 1996. Get it together 🙄
Nicholas Regular she and Aaliyah were born same year, January and November. I wonder how she is now?
How can the industry replace her when Mona wasn't as successful as Aaliyah. One had nothing to do with the other; two different styles. Mona had more of a teen Mary J./Faith Evans type of style.
Nostalgia 🥰😍 she’s still in my playlist till this day

I wrecked my brain all morning long to find this artist's name and this song
MAN I LOVE THIS GURL STILL TO THIS DAY THIS WAS MUSIC

This performance makes me smile every time I see it.
In every step of the way, i agree 100% in everything you said! She is soooo underrated, its not even funny!
7:02 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Does anyone know what shes doing now?.....i adore her still!......Mona if your reading this"we still love you!......come and do a one off concert in london England!!!!!...

I swear that boy at 7:35 is so fine!! He looks like a dead ringer for LL Cool J.
i agree they do look a lot like each other!! but i’ve seen you under so many 90s rnb related videos. you have amazing taste

This was off from "Video Soul"
Man I miss the days when it was just THE SINGER AND A MICROPHONE on stage……nothing else to distract us…..Just the Person and their Voice

Ja dawn!!
i got every poster of her, hundreds of 'em.
why cant I find this sone ANYWHERE?

All these stupid record companies look for is someone that fits an "image". No actual talents! It's so redundant! You're right!
Does she have any interviews?
AMEN Baby blue
❤️

she was the shit
I love Aaliyah. She is one of my favorites ever. But Mona Lisa could definately outsing her.
@mspisces13 I know! I was just thinking the same thing!
ya i dont know why she wasnt as successful as others
Video Soul or Planet Groove?
The music industry sucks. Mona should’ve made it to the top. I love her voice more than Monica and Brandy.
@Simplyshyindc ...Not!! I'm pretty sure she is!!!
This Performance Was Off From The Show "Teen Summit"
*what
This Is Off From "Teen Summit"
Michael Jones Jr. This is video soul
she was not singing this live but I still loved her
Simplyshyindc yes she was, I was alive and watched it live. Look up her other performances. She was for real.
Yes she was, this was from "Video Soul" cause at the end of the first song, Sherry Carter was asking her questions about her album.
Simplyshyindc Yes she is. The real deal.
