  • I felt the need to record the Warp Group setup [at min 8:00] again as it can be done a lot easier, cleaner, and faster.
I create an easy-to-adjust mockup scene with three tumblers using Affinity Designer v2 and Warp Groups.
This video is a little more advanced as you would need some knowledge of vector shapes, moving nodes, and working with layers.
I explain the creation and realistic shading of the tumbler in vectors. It allows for a more flexible approach than using a photo.
In the second part of the video I use the Warp Group introduced in Affinity Designer v2. This allows the wrapped look due to squashing parts of the design to match the tumbler shape.
Once set up, the symbols make changes to the design very easy.

Can you do Slowly to teach Beginner Level ?

I could... but this is a more advanced topic - hence the 'Medium' in the thumbnail and in my description. There are a lot of elements coming together and a lot of potential pitfalls. I would recommend playing around with simpler video tutorials first before attempting this one. It might be a lot more rewarding.
Nevertheless, I will think of an easier approach to this tutorial.

Great tutorial! Appreciate you showing your thought process.
Ive been using AD for the past 5 years, haven't used much of the new warp feature yet.

Great tutorial, thank you so much, this is brilliant. Is it possible to draw the tumblers also in Inkacape?

Thanks! That's a good question... I would say yes... but I will give it a try and get back to you.

I apologize for the delayed reply. It's just been one of those weeks... but I tried a few approaches and even though Inkscape has the 'Envelope Deformation' and the 'Lattice Deformation' these are limited to a single path. These functions also lack the ability to skew prospectively in a way Affinity Designer approaches the warp group to create the roundness.
Setting up the tumbler wouldn't be a problem and the approach would be very similar to Affinity Designer. The design deformation to match would be the key issue. For straight cans or mugs you could clip multiple copies of the design and squash them horizontal - not elegant but a possible hack. Anything more complex would require a different tool - e.g. gimp for a bitmap deformation of the design and then importing it into Inkscape.

@@2dgameartgurudear 2dgameartguru Thank you very much for your efforts. I'm totally thrilled and think it's fantastic that you even took the time to clarify my question. Of course I will take the time to check and make sure that I 'somewhat' know what I am talking about. :) It helps to stay credible and I stuff up often enough ;)
