I can't begin to explain how useful this video was for me. I never knew how to find those famous direct clients everybody talks about, they never taught this at my institute lol. I really needed step-by-step instructions to understand this type of networking. Thank you so so so much, Adrian.

@@Freelanceverse Hello Adrian. May I please ask for your advice? My goal is to work as a freelance translator. The problem is that I failed the state exam. So, the only thing that I have, is a certificate for participation in translation studies. I think that it is difficult to find clients in Europe without a degree. What do you think? Is it worth trying even without a degree? May you please give me some hints that I can take advantage of?
      Take care.
      George

Great video. Lots of advice out there but you're the first one I have found who gives actual examples. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share your ideas with us!

Adrian: "Are you ready for that?"
    Me: "Nope". *Running away*.
I'm just at the start of something and while some translators are rushing for direct clients, I on the contrary, just want to work with agencies. No big worries, just learning the process and doing your job.
I think each one has his/her own path.
Nice video with many examples, very practical! You have to be very bold to message people you don't know on LinkedIn 😅
PS: it's missing the link 11:53 (warm marketing)

@@Freelanceverse btw Adrian, are you interested in some collaboration with a English to franch translator? I've got a friend who translates from English to franch and vice versa. Do you have some work for her?

Hi, Adrian. Thanks for discussing a crucial topic. Could you make a video or answer a question about the legal side of translation business that is TNC and contracts? How the translator's TNC and contracts have to look like and what they should or shouldn't include? Where can I see TNC/contract templates or samples? What are pitfalls to be careful about? What to do if a client like an agency has its own contract which is differ from mine? How negotiate these differences? Are there any differences between agencies' and direct clients' TNC/contracts? Maybe there're some other aspects which I'm not aware of. I'm a starting out translator and have never dealt with TNC/contracts except for agencies' ones that I accepted as they're without thorough examination.

Hi Tatyana, that is a great idea. I have something similar on the list. Want to have an interview with a translator/lawyer about this :)

    Hi Adrian!
It's so cool you came here to Argentina last month! I'd love to hear what places you visited, what did you do, what did you eat, what was your general experience. You are right, this is such a beautiful country with such a rich and diverse culture and nature. Here in Patagonia, for example, I think you would have felt at home, with all these lakes, mountains and forests... But surely you did encounter beauty wherever you traveled.
It's been half a year since I've started following you, and I can assure you that, with every video, I earned a great deal of confidence and inspiration to improve my professional profile as a translator, and build this new project of a work coop that I and my colleague call Rizoma Translation Collective.
We are in the middle of the building process, preparing our website, making connections, creating our image... Step by step, we've followed many of the tips you share on your channel, and all of them proved to be super useful and effective. This video is no exception.
One topic that I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on, is how you deal with the legal part of the job, specially regarding international clients. Do you use some general contract model, or do you have your own? Do you adapt it often depending on the job or the client, or do you have a few that you generally use? That might be a good topic for future videos ;)
Thank you A LOT, and keep up your incredible job.

Thank you so much for the kind words, so happy to hear that your busy building a new project! I recently made a video on NDAs, hope you've seen that, but I'll add a legal video to the list as well for you :) maybe I can get a lawyer linguist on, htat would be fun! Take care

i really love this idea! brilliant 💡 by the way, do you have any tips for highly saturated markets? for example, in my country, there are a lot of English-Malay translators. do you have any idea on how to be unique and one-of-a-kind for markets like these? thank you so much ☺️

    • @Freelanceverse
      @Freelanceverse  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for the positive feedback! To stand out in a highly saturated market is to become very specialized in a niche. You want to become one of the top 5 translator in a specific niche in your langauge pair :)

I don't like working with direct clients as I find it too much of a hassle to negotiate rates and terms. I prefer having the agency handle this job for me.

Thank you Adrian Probst for giving very helpful information. I am a freelancer for Japanese and Marathi languages. I have one question. Agencies ask us to sign NDA before start of the work. Can we as a freelancer also create a NDA for clients or agencies we are working with. If yes, is there any template for it.
