Comparing kids through generations is what you should be doing mate. Markets change and with access to games like fortnite to hold kids attention Lego needs to evolve some of its themes.

I think you have a point, but many toys prominently featured violence, tanks, etc decades ago, when LEGO's company culture was conflicted about even portraying a flintlock. The original line of Star Wars toys sold like hotcakes in the late 70's and have had pretty constant appeal, so I think there is some universality to what kids enjoy, despite market fluctuation. That said, there definitely has been a toy arms race when it comes to competing with video games. Examining the attitudes of consumers over the generations would be a fun topic.

I don't think it's to evolve with the generation. Kids always knew what violence was. Iterally g.i. Joe existed lol. Cowboy toys as well. Super heroes, etc.
When I was a kid, I was always frustrated with the lack of violence in some things. Like I said to another commenter, ninjago for example, didn't show a single punch for 3 seasons. Only time they attacked was while spinning. Idk. When I was a kid, I wanted to watch a ninja throw a punch or kick 😑 I was super frustrated lol

I find this evolution of violence particularly interesting when conceding the content that Ninjago's put out over the years. From the very beginning, they've ever shied away from violence or death, at least no more so than contemporary action cartoons.
Even in the first season, they showed skeletons of starved prisoners, tactically shown character deaths on screen, and had characters react to said deaths. They never said "dead" or "death" but even more impactful than saying death is showing it, so they really weren't pulling any punches.
Later seasons would introduce guns ranging from laser weapons to flintlock rifles to even police using them sparingly. And as the show got older, they began to take more and more risks with their violence. They started killing characters by dropping buildings on them, hitting them directly with lasers, having buildings collapse on them, and even burning them alive. They even went as far as to show innocent people die as collateral damage or had a villain kill them to solidify how evil they were. They also began explicitly saying words like "death" and "kill".
These days, Ninjago is pretty dang fearless. It's the kind of show where you honestly can't be sure if a character will die or not, especially if they a side character or villain. Ninjago doesn't just push the envelope for what Lego is allowed to portray in media, it pushes the envelope for all kids cartoons PERIOD. It's honestly one of the best parts about the show. It takes itself entirely seriously and when your show takes itself seriously, you can bet the viewers will as well.

The first 3 seasons of ninjago didn't even show a single punch. The only time the characters attacked, was while they were spinning. I used to be really frustrated with that lol.

And I wouldn't really say it pushes the envelope for all kids shows. Considering power rangers is more violent than ninjago lol. And that's their direct inspiration. And other shows like transformers and he man and things exist.

Bionical was when lego started going in on the violence with the themes after 2001 having a focus on violence some going to just "capturing the badguys" to others like Atlantis supposedly killing the threats. Of course the violence reached peak when the main objective in Galaxy Squad was to iradicate the invading bugs. Was lego inspired by Starship troopers and Warhammer 40K when they made that theme with a little bit of Tokusatsu sprinkled in there.

I noticed that you said that Lego allowing more violence in their themes is "mature". While I somewhat agree with that, I find it very dumb that Lego will allow themes based on violence but won't work with third parties whose content just happens to have cussing, even though they have really good content. It would be awesome if Lego Homestuck were a thing eventually but I doubt Lego would ever do it, just becuase it has a little bit of profanity, and that's really lame imo.

I think Lego could make use of it's 18+ brand to make some historical themes, that includes military or violence. Such as a roman battle-pack for example. With this 18+ litterally on the box, one can say, such a set is not intended for kids, which opens the gate for more "resonable amount of realistic violence" (if this make sence). Such setd would be more fun to build, than a pod full of flowers or helmets, I can't even wear on my head.

Nah, not in my opinion. There is actually a lot you can make out of Lego that don't have anything to do with weapons, you just gotta use your imagination. In fact, I would argue that while weapons does expand on the adventure aspect of Legos, it limits the creative building aspects of building with Lego.

@@Xario1 I don't see how it limits the creative building... the lack of it definitely does tho. Less licensed sets and whatnot. The fact that they went against their own rules to even make the cowboy and knights (castle) sets in the first place lol. And went against their own rules again to create pirate sets is evidence of this.
