When the hypnotherapist mentioned that the subconscious can speak through a nod, It reminded me of being really stressed out and then I decided to nod and it actually helped to calm me down and accept where I was in the present moment
This definitely seems more grounded than most hypnosis I've seen or at least seen it portrayed. Being someone who has always been stuck in my head, I can see why this could help some people. My therapist actually uses some of these techniques, associating an emotional feeling with a physical feeling in the body. Though this is quite hands on lol, but maybe that's the point. Just another form of grounding.
I hope Charlie talks about this on his channel, I'm super curious what the guys did/didn't feel. I don't know what I really think about hypnotism, but this feels very meditative in style. It also kind of reminds me of being a kid in church, when a pastor was trying to make me feel something that I could never feel spiritually. It makes me feel internally frustrated to watch, lol. But I would LOVE to hear from Charlie and the guys what this was like.
How do you feel about therapy? Like do you think you could benefit from seeing a psychiatrist or a therapist, let’s say you got to try numerous different ones until you found one you vibed with. At least felt like you trusted. I wonder if there’s any correlation between ppl who have had successful therapy and ppl who respond well to hypnosis. I can’t imagine responding well to it, but I was pretty skeptical of therapy until I found the right therapist. Literally changed my life. It’s not like I’m some hippie now, I don’t really do anything differently, but I think a bit differently about the world. I’d say I’m more empathetic, and I’m more aware of myself in a good way. I’ve battled anxiety and depression since I was 13, and a ton of trauma. It didn’t heal me, but it helped. If I had a ton of $ I’d find a way to see that therapist I saw maybe once a month or something. I saw her about 2-3x/wk for 8-12mo while I was inpatient for a bad accident. Seeing her plus being in a hospital bed by myself for very long periods changed my perspective on things. Maybe if the hypnotist was someone I felt comfortable with and trusted I could do it, truly no idea. With my anxiety I just doubt it, but you never know.
@BOnYTB Funny thing, my sister is a therapist (she works with trauma) - I have never been to a therapist, but I think it could be good, so long as you can find a good one you trust. I took a little psychology in college, I found it pretty fascinating.

We had a hypnotist come to one of our college functions, didn't think much of it. It was genuinely insane, and I know that the effects were genuine because the people that volunteered were not good actors as I knew them well. They said things they would never say in front of a group.

Hypnosis is part of my everyday life, it's like having the power to go anywhere you want. As someone with chronic pain it's changed everything. I wish I could explain it better.
The person on the far right of the screen was struggling so much just like I have been for the last few months. Taking direction and trying to be still and not shake from maybe overthinking makes you move and shake even more. I felt bad watching him really struggle in. I do the same popping noises and start to sweat just like that in the first 3mins. Sending you love and positive vibes
33:30 - “…you are so relaxed. Feel those feet once again. So heavy as if they’re covered in SPIDERS!!!! THEY’RE ALL OVER YOU! CLIMBING UP YOUR LEGS!!!!!”
I wonder what the correlation is between people who are open to therapy, and/or have experienced extremely helpful therapy…and those who can be swayed by hypnosis. I went through 3 different psychiatrists before I found one that I clicked with. Once I did, it was AMAZING. I saw her 2-3x/wk for about a year and it was legitimately life changing. I’d say before that I was fairly skeptical of it, but the person had a genuine warmth to them and I felt like they actually cared. I felt like I could speak to them openly and they wanted to help, and possibly could help. I wasn’t sure they’d be able to at all, but after a while it did. With that being said, I can’t really imagine hypnosis being a thing for me. I do have anxiety, GAD, and I have since I was 13. I’ve battled with depression etc. So my mind races a ton, I’m unsure if I’d be able to get in to a state like that unless I truly trusted the person doing it and had a connection with them. Maybe if I had a connection with them like I did that therapist, I’d be able to. I don’t know. I will say I truly believe everyone can benefit from therapy in a one on one setting, ideally in person (F BetterH3LP etc) at least until you find a therapist you click with and build some rapport with. I can’t stress how important it is to have the right one, it’s night and day. Anyway I don’t want to be preachy lol. I just went on a natural tangent, sorry.
It's so important to find the right therapist. You can't be discouraged if you don't click with the first one, sometimes it takes a few to get there but once you find a therapist that you feel truly listens and makes an effort (mine would call once our sessions were more spaced out just to check in) it can be so beneficial to so many parts of your life. I would recommend it to literally anyone. You just have to give it an actual shot
I used to think hypnosis is bs but I get now how it works. It's not like in movies or cartoons at all, even though it sometimes looks a bit like it. Matt described it well when he said it's like guided meditation. You have to let yourself trust and feel what the person says, playing along without thinking about it. It doesn't work with everyone and not very time but I'm glad it can help people.
@@datk1ll310 It is still placebo. Just because you didn't believe it doesn't mean that it won't work. Believing just makes it easier to get you. Sorta like how Charlie's way of telling yourself that hiccups aren't real even if you don't believe it still works.

I like that you guys found someone you could be genuine with, who appreciated the many different reactions everyone had and didnt claim to be in control or doing anything paranormal. I think what he does with the power of suggestion and psychology and just his personal knowledge of the human brain and our thought processes, and how he used that knowledge, is really fascinating. As always, you guys went in with a healthy dose of skepticism *and* respect. The hyponist seemed very down to earth, knowledgable, and open to different experiences. Just super interesting content, this was a great watch. A lot of his techniques were reminiscent of meditation practices I've picked up to deal with anxiety.

professional gaslighter?? How can you even say that? Just remember we all have the answers to our fears. This guy's only job was to evoke trust in yourself (which most people unfortunately sometimes cannot). Sometimes all a person in need is an experience or right set of words told to them. He did that. It wasn't black magic or bullshit. It was beautiful.
There are several people I know personally that fear flying and refuse. It’s scary the first time. Everyone gets nervous at take off unless you are under 3-4. I remember the first plane I went on and it was with my parents to California. We went to Disney land and I just have photos of that. When we exited the plane, the pilot gave me a plastic badge with a pin to pin it on your own shirt. It helped inspire me but I also fear heights unless it’s way up, map view. When I look out the window to relax it’s easier to see the features of the earth. Satellite view on google maps is great but less detailed. I want google earth and to drive a canyon like a pod racer on Star Wars.
28:37 alright ok alright so i dont believe in "hypnotism" as much as i believe in persuasion and therapy lol but i stg I've been nervous and anxious about going to my bf's family reunion next week for so many days and i think ill actually come back and listen to this again before i go next week.
just remember they judge you extra harshly because they love their family member and will 100% with NO doubt talk about you multiple times after you leave
Hypnotism revolves around fooling yourself into believing that something is true. If you don't want to believe it, then it won't work. It's pretty much a self-induced placebo effect.
Just dress your best and be nice and caring. Show that you love him and they’ll either decide to like you or not. You can’t convince them what they should think so all you can really do is show your best side and hope for the best. Maybe even bake something for everyone to get their mood and first impressions of you up. However, don’t try to be someone you aren’t as that will only blow up in your face later.
0:58 "What we're gonna do now isn't really hypnosis, I just kinda wanna see how your imaginations work" From the little I know about hypnosis, that was basically a suggestibility test (to see how much each person would be susceptible to hypnosis, since that varies among people). From that he caught on to Aaron's (3:04) and Matt's (2:58) suggestibility, which is probably why he chose Matt for the first individual demonstration (4:41). 3:25 "If you notice, his eyes went right into REM" REM (rapid eye movement) is the sleep stage associated with dreaming (so it makes sense it's related to imagination), but I didn't know you could enter it immediately while "awake" (during sleep, you only enter REM at the 4th stage). 8:50 "I'm thinking about a inside joke" It was the poop store one, wasn't it? 💩 🏪 20:54 "Think about flying and feel trust" Man, I **really** don't know how I feel about such an impactful suggestion (ethically speaking). On one hand I think it's "fine" since it had consent, but I can't help but feel weird about it. 36:10 "Not only does it not bother you, you're curious about it" Okay, if Matt ever finds a venomous spider (or if they find him) that could actually be harmful (I hope you don't have those in Florida).
hey. as someone who has severe ocd and knowing you had ocd growing up, alot of the fears stem from anxiety and not trauma.. loved the video but i worked on my fear of flying with a CBT therapist and exposure and response prevention was the thing that worked the best for me. maybe if you really wanna get through it give that a try, its really magic
The hypnotist actually does a lot of live shows and I've seen a couple. What he does really works and I think it's all about using your own mind to create a placebo. Watching it makes it seem fake but in person is a much different experience.
As someone actively studying psychology: hypnosis is real, it's just not how we're used to seeing it in things like TV or movies. Instead of some command that takes over your brain and forces you to obey the hypnotist, it's more akin to something like the placebo affect, or when you're driving and your brain goes into auto-pilot. It's generally a matter of relaxation and suggestion. One really simple example is the trick where you pretend to tie a string around your index and thumb and wind it up; if you actively fight against it, your fingers won't come together.

Life is peak when TOC drops a video.
Yo I normally don’t speak on editing unless it’s atrocious, but TOC is so subtle but so goddamn well done. It’s fantastic, well done.
It’s so cool to see the idea that the subconscious is so powerful because it really is.
19:00 whoever edited the camera changes with the snaps, you're a genius and i love you
Yeah it is pretty great
I love you
I hope Charlie talks about this on his channel, I'm super curious what the guys did/didn't feel.
Well hypnosis is pretty much meditation, it’s not magic or anything.
Anybody who's watched matt for years will REALLY understand how well this worked for him.

I do the same popping noises and start to sweat just like that in the first 3mins. Sending you love and positive vibes
The way Matt's arm bends scares me most
Where he makes them laugh, It’s just a mental thing. One of your friends start to laugh, So you do. They continue laughing because you are.

The people in the comments saying "its just gaslighting it doesnt actually exist" you clearly skipped the entire matt segment

Yep, it's just the placebo effect in action. There's a lot of people who think that hypnosis is magic like shown in movies and TV shows.
@@Drakonus_matt didnt think it would work, so placebo isnt whats going on here, its suggestion he stated it at the start

Hypnosis is subconscious persuasion! It's not magic, it's just a way of reframing how you feel
Two kinds of people here 😭 you’ll be fine dude!! Good luck

36:10 "Not only does it not bother you, you're curious about it" Okay, if Matt ever finds a venomous spider (or if they find him) that could actually be harmful (I hope you don't have those in Florida).
