I recently took in an 8 year old AKC Pomeranian after his owner passed away. He was unfortunately shaved (unsure how many times he had been shaved in the past) and his undercoat was packed in pretty tight by the time I got him.
Other than brushing, what else can I do to help his fur grow back? Most of his fur has an odd crinkly type texture and feels very damaged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I actually hand strip the outer coat, the sparse hair growing longer than the rest, a little each week. I find that this helps to reset the coat (hopefully). Don’t over brush or comb the undercoat. Wash with a shampoo and conditioner like Igroom Deshedding. Use a high velocity dryer to separate the undercoat. It may take 2 years for the coat to reset itself. In the meantime, don’t let anyone trim the outer hair no matter how it looks.
Great video and advice i use a blade brush is this incorrect? i will start using this type of brush and sprays
Definitely do not use any rake or blade brush on a Pomeranian, it will ruin the coat.
@@grandestyledoggrooming omg i really had no idea. I will buy slicker brush and and regular brush and the comb. i also ordered just divine and plum silky. My pom has thick long black hair i hope i can restore his hair. Im not sure if im missing anything? so if blade and rake no good why sell in what situation is it ok to use?
@@grandestyledoggrooming Pin brush slicker brush and the metal comb. along with spray for brushing will never brush dry

Try a Pin brush, that may help.

I have pom boy, 10 month and still changing coat. Is grooming the same with this stage, monkey stage? I groom every day as he still have quite a lot of baby coat. Thank you!

Hello I have really enjoyed your videos. I learned about you from watching Amy Leigh’s videos. I wanted to ask you what hose are you using to bathe the dogs? It’s so nice. Thank You & thanks for your great information & tips.
I purchased the nozzle 20+ years ago with a Hydrosurge bathing system. They are no longer available to my knowledge. The hose is a washing machine 4’ hose. I always look for the most supple hoses that I can find.
Why use a pin brush and not a slicker? I'm wondering what the difference would be?
A pin brush has less drag and pull in the coat. It has long straight pins instead of short bent pins. The pins are also more flexible. The dogs are far more accepting of the pin brush and it’s more effective. Win/Win.

Very very informative, thank you a lot. My 5 month old pom hates being brushed, so he tries to bite the comb (sometimes out of curiosity, other times to prevent the brushing), and he doesn't sit still. Any advice?
Some dogs make enemies of certain tools. Omit the comb for training purposes. Use a gentle pin brush, and use line brushing techniques.
