    Something that has helped me pick up a whole lot of different things, which is true even for lifting: Biggest progress is made right at the start. It's pure math, honestly. If you have little to start with, any gains are proportionally big. However small the improvement you're aiming for, it's gonna make a HUGE difference once you get it down. Keeping that in mind as a begginer is quite important.

    I am currently playing Tekken 7. Took me a month to start feeling myself (pun intended. I don't play Leroy) and beat people online and help friends get better at it. I never felt more focused and obsessed with a genre. I even started playing Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 and enjoy it too. People simply need to understand that constant losses are a real lesson. Knowing thy character and the opponent is the key.
    Also trying many characters and then becoming a character loyalist is going to help a lot.

      Sorry if i necro your comment but as someone who have tryed to play tekken 7 , i find the online very hard. it's like a big wall when i couldn't do a thing against . Even after training many hours on training mode , learning combo , i find that the playerbase was not wide enough to let me fit in , maybe i should have tryed harder or try again with tekken 8 at his start (or any other new game ) , when nearly noone is good and make experiment.

    I think one of the reasons ppl dont like learning fighting games (or other games n activities) is dopamine addiction. It makes you less patient and quit faster, to go on youtube or other sides for some dopamine hits.
    I noticed myself while playing video games. if i turn off my pc and turn on the ps4, im able to play for longer periods of time and be more patient, because i dont have quick access to them.

    Really liked your point on small victories, even in the event of losing a match.
    I'm VERY new to Street Fighter, and I've been playing Cammy. In a match just the other day, I was in a mirror match and got air grabbed. I didn't even know Cammy could do that lol.
    So a few matches later, I had one of those weird opponents that likes to jump around a lot. So I air grabbed him. He didn't jump so much after that.

    I would LOVE to learn GG and BB, but those games has always been too hard for me to play.
    Not only do you have to worry about the system mechanics, but each character has their own specific mechanics that don't carry over to another. Idk how in the world people can swap back and forth between Nine, Rachel, Nu, Zato-1, Ramethal, and etc.

    I’ve been trying really hard to get good at guilty gear. I’m so bad lol like I can’t even do a simple combo against anyone because they are all so good but I’ve gotten close to winning a couple times because I use what I do know to the best of my ability while trying new stuff. I feel myself getting better and it feels good. But I’m not a newbie to fighting games so maybe that’s why I’m not having a hard time having fun. This video was is a very good video.

    • @Ropewatch
      @Ropewatch ปีที่แล้ว

      I know your pain. I play nightmare and I still try to improve since a year ago. I now win every now and then. And I even don’t get stomped as hard as I used to by high ranks even getting a rare win.
      Knowing your combos and counter hit combos is a must. You miss out on so much damage if you don’t. You can’t survive on basic stuff alone.
      You also have to be curious in training mode and try out ideas. And you gotta iron out your common mistakes. For example you hit a move but then you don’t know what to do next and you get hit.
      I try to look forward to fighting tough players so I can get used to it and learn new tricks. If I fight new people it feels so unfair and I dumb down my playstyle so they can learn something.
      It’s really rough playing Soulcalibur sometimes. Very brutal.

    I agree with most of this, but the skills transfer thing is kinda a design thing. In a shooter, you can sometimes hit by not being exactly on the target just by random spray or you can see that you were close, which is a lot more motivating to some than trying to do a shoryu and getting some normal and then put into the blender from the anti-air they thought they had found the right answer to, but their hands fail to cooperate.

    I fear that, should I start playing fighting games for real (just bought SF6 but got no real prior experience) it'll be like any other game I play where I shift characters constantly. I do it in hero shooters, I do it in MOBAS, and in RPGs I usually got like 11 save files with different builds and characters that I play simultaneously.
    For fighting games I've been told that I got to stick with a character and properly learn and master said character, and possibly have a few other ones as backup picks to cover bad matchups. My instinctive approach to games in general might be detrimental to fighting games, since it'll reset my knowledge every time I switch character...
    Well, only one way to find out I guess.

My uncle, actually got me into the MK series with the first game back on the Sega Genesis and it’s hilarious because, I used to get beat by Raiden’s Flying Punch move all the time until, I jumped deeper into competitive fighting games and now whenever he uses it on me I block it and combo him into the corner and keep him there and he always gets so pissed off and starts complaining “Let me out of the corner!” or “This isn’t a fair fight!” A variety of similar complaints come with the territory and I just laugh and say “oh, how’s it feel to get beat all the time, not very good does it?” Then he usually, just slams the controller on the ground and go into his bedroom and pouts over the fact that I beat him and what makes it even funnier is my uncle’s over 40 years old and he acts like a 5 year old when I beat him at a fighter it’s quite hilarious.

    Hey Brendan, I decided to start my channel to play NRS fighting games and I was hoping that you would help me out and take the moderator and editor roles, if not no biggie. I’m trying to find somebody to take those roles so, I can start streaming later this week or next if possible.

      Glad to hear you're starting it! Currently, I'm busy with getting my own channel where it needs to be, so I have to decline. Good luck tho

      Ok no biggie, I’ll just moderate it myself then, it’s not a big deal since, it’s my channel I want to assure I put in the time sharing my gifts with others. I’ve always loved playing fighting games and I figure why not start a twitch channel and share my passion with others and help people who are just learning fighting games level up as well as level up myself since, to tell you the truth I’m not all that great at fighters period even at my favorite 2D fighters which are the NRS games aka MK and Injustice so, I will definitely be playing a lot of MK11 when it comes out starting with the story mode on launch day so, be sure to stop by April 23rd when it launches I was going to go to a launch tournament but, I don’t think I will I will learn more about the game on twitch streams first. I also preordered the premium edition of the game so, I will definitely be streaming matches for the online beta as well as my first impressions of the gameplay etc.

    I always figured that people that like fighting games have no real life ambitions or a job that satisfies them, so they try to "improve" at a video game instead.

    Better. Faster. Stronger. Learn new mechanics. Practice combos. Do it again. Again. Again. Grind. Overcome. Again. Again. Again. At least that’s my thought process.

    "Play against people at your skill level"
    And here is the crux of the problem. You know hopping online won't work because the gap is way too high to learn anything.
    And if anyone IRL is pushing you to get into it, they're probably not chumps either.
    So... it's good that Fighting Game University exists, at least. But I guarantee you that there's a LOT of people who just sit around waiting for something like Riot's game to actually just explode. (Personally I'm gonna try to get KOFXV at launch and pray that *someone's* as much of an idiot as me)

    i think fighting games should stay harder and inaccessible so that less people play it and the general population feel more alienated from it. and the oldheads can stay happy in there own world and there is less glory to it that's glamorized to inspire people to wanna be a part of it. :)

    Why is this genre thirsty for more gamers becoming fighting players? I get this vibe. Even in real life I do.

    if you've only played COD, Doom, Halo, Overwatch, then you definitely can't transfer that over to Counter Strike lol. Counter Strike has a similar learning curve as fighting games honestly

    i always find this "if u stick with it, you'll figure it out" with fighting games.
    are people just not aware of the MANY people stuck in the lowest ranks that have 10s of thousands of games.
    it's not seemingly UNCOMMON for people to have 40k matches and routinely lost to people with 100 matches or less in ranked.

    • @im_cart8656
      @im_cart8656 ปีที่แล้ว

      i should add that in MANY cases it is true.. but in more cases than really any other genre of game there are people that are just permanently bad

    • @Ropewatch
      @Ropewatch ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe. But the thing is that the people losing are probably not actively looking at what they are doing and are missing something. Not ironing out all the small mistakes they are doing. Nowadays you can record your matches. You can grind your way up that way.
      But if they have some kind of disability or naturally have some kind of a disadvantage then I guess it’s hopeless for them.
