    You have just solved my watering issues.
    I have 17 garbage can rain barrels. I have them stationed near where I'm growing my plants (pretty much all are in pots) and I transfer the rainwater from the 'collection' rain barrels to the other rain barrels via a transfer pump. I then water the plants using a bucket or watering can. It's been difficult to keep schlepping heavy buckets. I just couldn't figure out which pump to use, or the hose setup, to move the water from the barrels to the pots. Your video has now given me answers.
    Also, instead of using the concrete bins, one can use a rubber feeder bowl from Tractor Supply. They're only $10 and they hold 6-7 1 gallon pots or 3-4 3 gallon pots. They're about 3' across and 6-7" deep and are perfect to hold the pots. I used them one year to hold my pots of peppers and it worked wonderfully. I still had to monitor the water and pour water in them, but now I can do it automatically!
    Thank you, so much, for your ingenuity. It helps a lot!

    Not a rap fan, but poppin grommets was hilarious! 🤣 Thanks for this video as I've been planning a manual plant watering method with trash cans on my off grid property. The cans will be my rainwater collection method with a hole in the lid with insect screening, and the lid curving downward into the can for maximum input. I put a standard outdoor faucet near the bottom of the can to connect my hose to and use gravity to feed the water. I can have as many cans as I need as my garden grows larger. I will be using a similar system of cans for my personal use water where they will be lined up around my house with the first in-line can at a downspout, and small diameter pvc pipe connecting the cans to overflow into the line. Bottom faucet on each one. Blessings, Texas Deb ❤️

    Growing plants in the winter when you live in a warmer climate, I found that I can make a greenhouse over the planted area, by using a 5 gal. water jar. When they leak and not useful to hold water, I cut the bottom off and the spout allows air in. The fact that they are heavy, the cold and frost are held back. On cold nights I put the lid back on. The bottom also makes a great plant saucer.

    Great video! Thank you for showing us the whole video with mistakes and all. Alice you did a GREAT job of not missing anything. It takes a team to do great filming. I love your hat, you look so adorable. Pretty and adorable is a great combination.
    Just a suggestion, as a precaution I use Summit Mosquito dunks to make sure no mosquitos don't find a way in or something goes wrong. They last 30 days in constant water or 30 waterings meaning they dry out between waterings. To keep gnats away I use the Bits and put about 2T in a mesh bag and soak in my 2 gal watering can for about an hour, pull out the bag and water plants with the water. I make sure I water the plants first, let it soak in then water with the Bits water. It's safe for wildlife, pets, kids and organic gardeners. The Bits get moldy if you sprinkle them on top of soil by themselves. It's corn hulls with a bacteria that kills mosquito and gnat larvae. water once a week or so or if you're finding mosquitos. If there's an infestation of gnats do this every week until they're gone. This also works for indoor plants and seed starting. It's really amazing stuff. I'm doing due diligence this year in keeping mosquitos away and this helps enormously. I live in a wooded community so I can't keep them all away. Not that you have mosquitos but it's for those folks who might need a little help with those blood suckers.

    This is a great idea and we will be utilizing many aspects for our food forest.
    One thing we will be doing different though is where we get our water from. We collect water from a metal roof into 330 gallon IBC totes that are open to the air all the time. Mosquitos are a huge concern and we have found the best method to resolve the issue is with fish. There are many kinds of fish that can be used, but bait fish are cheap and plentiful near us so we use shad and goldfish. They have survived multiple freezes over the last few years, gotten quite big, and feed off of the algae that grows on the containers as well as the eggs and larvae from the mosquitos. If you add a few extra fish and feed them regularly, you'll get extra nutrients like in an aquaponics system. Just another idea for you. 🙂

    The chlorine will evaporate in a few hours without any help, if your concerned at all, just fill your bucket a day in advance. You could eliminate the valves and equalize your tanks with a short pipe between them plus you would only have to run tubing to the first tank. Love the pin hole trick for the siphon! I’ll be setting something like this up for sure.

    • @plantabundance
      @plantabundance  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks! FYI, many water treatment facilities now treat with "chloramine", which is an ammonia and chlorine bond that does not easily break down and dissipate like chlorine alone. It can take weeks and would need adequate UV and aeration to accomplish. A small amount of vitamin c crystals (ascorbic acid) will effectively neutralize both chlorine and/or chloramines in minutes.
      Your idea to run an overflow connection series is a good idea and will work but doesn't allow for custom hydration settings. This set-up will allow you to grow celery in one container and kale in another, dialing in more water to the celery each watering cycle.
