Nice one again Jim. Sometimes it's a good idea to go back to basics to start with. The develope tool is certainly versatile and as you say a good place to start.
Jim, As always, another excellent video! One pointer --- for people who are new to Neo --- Note that you have several tools in your Favorites, of which you added the Professional "Supercontrast" to your Favorites. For new users, they may not yet have learned to use Favorites and may be confused when they open Neo and do not see Supercontrast in the top section of the tools under Favorites, so then have to scroll down the list to find what tool you are working with. BTW, like your photo -- Cannon Beach, Oregon? I grew up in Waldport on the coast of Oregon, but have been on the California Central Coast the past 36 years. I miss the Oregon Coast. Thank you.
Walter, you are one the right track. I would go a bit further and suggest that the new user use favorites to set up the basic workflow. I wonder what Jim thinks, apparently he uses favorites👍
@@richbottarini86 yep I like and use them, although for me I am not going to fave anything in Essentials bc it is already right at the top. And I use Essentials tools all the time. So I faved those other 3 which I also use a lot, so now I have my most used tools all at the top.
Thanks for putting this quick start guide together. I Shoot with the Canon M50 in RAW and I don't have any camera profile in Neo, only the default. Where do I get profiles for my camera?
Hi Jay and thanks. There is a photographer named Tony Kuyper who has a lot of profiles on his site if you want to check that out. Otherwise it would be a Google search. thanks
I am using Luminar AI. I've been wanting to purchase Neo. Do you happen to know how to purchase just the app without purchasing a subscription? By the way great channel!!
Hi Jim, thank you very much for the example of processing an image in Luminar Neo. I am still using Luminar 4, but just recently I ran across a very good offer for Luminar Neo. Would you recommend to go for Luminar Neo? How difficult is the transition, coming from Lumniar 4? BR Erwin.
Hi Erwin and thanks for watching. I definitely think it is worth it to get Neo. While it is still missing a couple of tools (clone and stamp, dodge and burn - though they are listed on their website as coming), it has a lot of new stuff and all the development will go into that product, so it will get better and better. I already use it for most of my edits and no longer need L4 or AI anymore. Also, I think the transition is not that hard bc it has a similar look and feel and many of the tools are replicated. Plus, I have a ton of videos here already showing how to use it, so hopefully that helps. Thanks!
Hi Andrew and good question, and the short answer is no, not really. You could technically add image layers and mask them in yourself, but there is no automatic way to focus stack in Neo. Thanks.
@@JimNix thanks Jim. I think I will mention it to skylum as I did with clone tool for Neo and they have said it will be in the next update mid September. Looking forward to that,

As always a good video. I had a fresh batch of 300 shots from a recent trip and decided to take NEO for a spin. After updating to the latest version I've edited about 20 shots and cut paste edited about 40 more. My general impression is it is too slow to use. I have a Dell Latitude 7450, i7, 16GB, SSD that worked fine in previous Skylum packages and works great for Lightroom, Topaz etc. But Luminar is just too slow. e.g. AI mask >3 min, basic edits screen update 30-60 sec., export 9 finished shots to JPEG 25 minutes! I'll keep updating and retesting and will send a note to Skylum support but for now its back to other tools. BTW love some of the smart erase etc and will use those piecemeal with other tools.
Hi Tom and thanks and sorry to hear it is so slow for you. Hopefully support can offer some insights. Also there was an update last week with new features so maybe that will help. Thanks.
Hi Jim. Love your videos. I am relatively new to Neo and seem to be unable to import my entire Photos Library into Neo. When it says add in Luminar the photos are always greyed out. Any tip how to get this done. Appreciate it and greetings from Surfers Paradise in Queensland Australia.
Hi Gert and you cannot add your photos to Luminar directly from Apple Photos, because Apple does not give you the ability to directly view and access the folder structure in their app. Apple hides it. And you have to add a folder in order to create a catalog in Luminar. I think if you do a Google search, there is a hack to get to those folders in Photos but I am not sure. So I suspect that is why it is greyed out. Thanks
Hi Jim, I thought I would let you know about a bug in the latest version of Neo (Version 1.1.1) and Luminar AI (Version 1.5.3). When they are used as a plug in to the latest version of Photoshop (Release 23.4.2) the Sky replacement hangs and will not show the skies to be selected. Perhaps you have more contact with Skylum and can inform them about the bug. Thanks.
Hey Jim, I've been using Luminar AI for I think a year now and I'm absolutely fed up with it's constant glitches corrupting my edit's. From your experience, is Neo more stable than Luminar AI? The main problems I've had are: - Moving photos to a different hard drive deletes ALL of my edits. - Copy and pasting an edit from one photo to another corrupts the photo making it unable to export (this occurs when clone or crop was used on the 'copy' photo.) - Composting textures corrupts the photo.
Hi Cody and sorry to hear that. I do find Neo to be much more stable and also quicker to use. I don't move photos so I haven't experienced that, and no issues with copy/paste either. Maybe download a trial and see how it works for you? It's worth trying out for sure. Thanks.
Recently updated Luminar from LM4 to Luminar Neo - purely to make use of the new feature of removing power lines as thought this would be very handy. So far I have been very disappointed with this new feature, has worked poorly on some image I have tested and have gone back to manually removing in Photoshop.
Hi Jim. I love your training for Luminar. I have been watching your videos for about 4-5 years, starting back with one of the original Luminar software releases. You have been most helpful over the years. Your videos about Luminar NEO, Develop RAW section show various camera profiles, and you are able to click on Camera Light, Landscape, etc. The only options I get for Develop RAW besides Luminar Default are Add Custom DCP and Add DCP from DNG. I click on those, and only get back to my computer desktop. I use a Canon 77D and only shoot RAW. Canon 77D is listed as one of the cameras Luminar supports. Could you sometime explain how you are able to see all those options? Thanks much. Cheri from Minneapolis!
Hi Cheri, thanks for the note and for your viewership, I appreciate it. You can Google camera profiles for your specific camera. There is a photographer named Tony Kuyper who has a site you can download some of them from. That may be worth checking out. I am not sure why some camera models show various options whereas others do not, sorry. It seems like on any raw file there ought to be some options, but I have seen it myself, so I understand your comment. Maybe check with their support team in case they have some insights? Thanks.
Well, I'm new to Luminar Neo, and my first experiences are crashes. Then more crashes. I bought it to support the team in Ukraine, but have to say that they never seem to improve a program, or fix problems. They just start a new project, with new problems. And charge for it. I'm not plagued with crashes in any other photo app, so It's not my computer. I can't remember Affinity Photo or Capture One EVER crashing on my Mac Pro.
I'm pulling my hair out in frustration. I have looked through several videos you have made about the Luminar Neo, and all of your photos are skew. Please straighten your photos. I'm soon out of hair. The horizon must be straight.
Thank you, Jim.

It has not been added to Neo yet. Not sure when.
