TGTB US Constitution & Government VS. Gather ‘Round US Government | What My Plans Are |

  • ✨Hey mamas! Today I’m sharing with you my my first impressions and a comparison of the US Constitution Unit from The Good and The Beautiful and The US Government Unit from Gather ‘Round Homeschool!
Have you used or are you planning to use either of these units? Let me know your plans below!
This video is part of a collab with a bunch of other working homeschool mamas, hosted by my friend Leilani @ Living with Eve !

New here? Introduce yourself in the comments!
    I’ll go first:
I’m Christina. I’m married to my best friend, Seth, we have 5 kids (ages 1, 2, 6, 10, & 14), and love our family, Jesus, and adventuring together.
We are passionate about being counter culture, including alternatives to traditional schooling. I am a public high school English teacher, turned homeschooling mom, turned middle school English teacher at a small Christian school. I’m hybrid homeschooling + Christian-schooling our five kids. Homeschooling is a lifestyle and a culture that will always be part of our family culture!
I love the Charlotte Mason education approach, and many others, but I’d say I’m more of an eclectic teacher-mixing the different aspects of homeschool styles that I love-living books, literature-based learning, Montessori, and so much more!
Just as I brought what I learned through teaching into homeschooling, I am so excited to bring what I’ve learned homeschooling back into teaching!
Whether you are considering homeschooling, new to homeschooling, considering alternative ways to educate your child, or just looking for some encouragement and inspiration for your motherhood journey, I hope you feel welcome and encouraged here 🤍

This comparison is so helpful! I really appreciate your comments at the end. It is difficult for me to find a history curriculum that I am comfortable with as a Christian African American woman. Gather Round, Heritage Mom, and Sonlight have been my go-to's. I did purchase Oh Freedom, but I really need a more open-and-go approach so we didn't make far.

Loved your idea of looping/spiral approach with these. Also, we went through the GRH US Govt last year and a very eye-opening rabbit trail we went down was in regards to the 3/5th amendment. We researched the US population and where everyone lived, the multiple iterations of it, how the rest of the world viewed America at the time and reasoning behind it all. We walked away with a TOTALLY different perspective than what we thought. Just being open to critically view and learn is the key here. I’m intentionally adding things into our school to teach us real, honest history. It’s so important!

Hello, love your videos! I'm currently homeschooling my 16 yr old and 8 yr old boys this year. 16 yr is in 10th grade and 8 yr old is 2nd grade. I'm trying to stay positive. Do you think this mini unit constitution book will work for my 16 yr old or both boys? Trying to settle on curriculums for them. I've been printing things off but also have some subject books. Help! Any suggestions! Thanks bunches.

This is the 2nd edition of the one I used…there used to be a Christian version and a secular version. It looks like now it’s just secular, but you can download the free prayer guide if you want it!
Also, Gather Round has US History and they look so good!

Did you check out any of the other levels of the Gather Round unit besides the middle school one? I heard some people say that it was a hard unit for younger kids. We have a very wide range that would use it (ages 5 up to turning 16 while using the unit). Can't wait to hear about what extras you are using! When are you planning to start?

I know Rebecca used to use TGATB before she created her own stuff...a long time ago she used to have a blog that discussed different stuff that she used and why she stopped. I remembered watching and decided I wouldn't ever try TGATB according to her convictions. But...I had some personal friends and family start using it and I got to see it in person. I love it!

    • @laurenbourg6982
      @laurenbourg6982 ปีที่แล้ว

@@blossomrockranch5037 I definitely enjoyed GR but I also do love TGATB. I put my kids in PS this past year but next year, we will be going back to homeschooling for all except one. Homeschooling is superior to PS in the socialization, IMO. Lots of bad behavior, we haven’t had too much of an issue academically. In fact, my children are reaching an entire grade level PLUS ahead for their ages in ELA. And I must say, it could’ve been TGATB or GR that got us there.

Nobody knows what the exact history is, and whether the voices were heard from Indian tribes. We don't know the settings, the laws, the threats, the economics, the agreements. There is a lot of misinformation, the worst is when the lie is presented with truth. Or when you can't tell when you are being influenced by something or not. The undercurrents of lies are hard to detect. The influences are hard to see. We need to present many sides of history and not blame anyone!
