    Hey buddy! Thanks for making this vid. I am thinking of getting a QC and would like to also capture amps through a load box and not many discuss this topic. So, the two notes seems to be up for the task. I’m assuming that you’re taking the output of the amp into the load box and coming out from that to the QC? So, are you in essence just using it as an attenuator? I know the Two Notes are capable of a range of features.
    How are you setting up IR’s? I’ve never really used them and not sure how to incorporate them in the way you are.
    Thanks for your help!

    I’ve had the helix a few times. Used mostly for effects. Just firings up a tube amp makes my day. Never will not play tube amps. I do see the use for these for touring and such.

    If the Cortex does not capture the EQ curve properly in the first place. Then tweaking the EQ by ear is subjective and its hit or more likely miss. Due to the fact EQ could add phase distortion. The whole point of the Convolution IR capture process, is to nail it in the first place.

    I think I would have captured the amp without the IR in the mix. I believe that would have gotten you closer to the actual amp tone. I have heard some captures that were absolutely spot on. Indistinguishable from the amp. At least sound wise. Also, when you capture both the sound of the amp AND the IR...aren't you then running the result through the cab sim on the Cortex? In effect putting two cab sims on the sound? One in the capture and one in the internal IR loader?

    • @belligerentamateur
      @belligerentamateur  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The IR isn't part of the captured amp signal. It's just there to use as a reference when dialing the tone in. Otherwise, it's like using an amp sim without an IR. Really harsh and buzzy, no way to dial it in properly like that

      @@belligerentamateur "The IR isn't part of the captured amp signal."
      Ahhh. Ok. I was assuming it was in the capture chain.
      Yeah. I know that an amp or amp sim without a cab IR sounds like fried dookie.

    The amp just has something the capture doesn't seem replicate. I agree with you, it's just fuller.

    If my amp has an emulated out, could I just use that for the capture rather than a Mic or the Load Box?

    That dover is a beast, do you know what circuit is based on? It some sort of Marshall I guess?

    • @TheAxe4Ever
      @TheAxe4Ever 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I see it, every tube amp topology is a bastardized version of Fender. Even the first Marshall used a Fender amp that was simply modded. Even the very first “Boogie” amp was a hot riddled Fender made for Carlos Santana. So I would say if we wanted to get technical about it, the Dover is a bastardized Fender amp. Just like every tube amp out there.

    It fully sounds like the final tone was an amp into a cab into another cab. It's like the amp and cab sim were profiled, then he threw another cab sim on top of that. It was not great.

    • @belligerentamateur
      @belligerentamateur  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The IR is really what killed it, IMO. I'm not a huge fan of the built in IR's on this unit, and I used an external IR from a pack I had to eq the amp for the capture.

  • @joshsmith7033
    @joshsmith7033 ปีที่แล้ว

    It sounds different because you played during the capture which fucked it all up. I'd try and recapture it without playing during the processing and with high quality cable's. If you do the the sound would be sonically the same. Have a good day.
