    Another player Kempner keeps missing is Dakota Joshua. The Canucks were an out of playoffs team in February with Joshua out of the lineup with his broken hand sustained when completing his Gordie Howe Hattrick. With Joshua in the lineup, the Canucks were a 1st place team. While he's not a top line superstar, the impact he made based on that is beyond measure. Sure, Jushua's not as sexy as some big name top line superstar, but he did as much as anyone in our top line in making the team better. The Canucks even improved back to a playoff team when Joshua returned from his injury in spite of the fact Demko was out by then with his ~3 week long knee injury. If we can get him for a home discount of $3.5-4 mil AAV, that would be huge, much bigger then his likely role and salary would indicate. That also gives us options. If we can't bring in a big name player for the top line, we retain Joshua and can keep the Joshua-Garland duo together, maybe bump them up to a 2nd line centred by Pettersson, and see if they can form the right chemistry together to make for 2 solid scoring lines, because we know the Miller-Boesser duo will produce whoever we put on their wing as the 3rd forward, even if we're still stuck with Suter in that role, or take a chance on Hoglander in that spot, we'll still get our top 6 scoring spread across both lines and Garland and Joshua, if nothing else, will be a million times better then Lafferty and Mikheyev as Pettey's wingers.

      I appreciate you watching & commenting. I want you to know that I really like Joshua but I’m convinced he’s gone. What the Canucks would offer him would be significantly less than what he’ll get in the open market.
      But in saying that he’s a 3rd line winger. How much do you think he’s worth? In 63 games he had 32 points. That’s the best year yet. Is it a new trend or a career year? Everyone in Vancouver would like him back but a home town discount is 2.5M.

      @@kempnercanucks I'm basing it on how the Canucks performed with Joshua in the lineup vs without. The Canucks were a much different, and way worse team during that stretch where Joshua was injured. Plus Rick Tocchett seems to be VERY high on Dakota Joshua, and his upside potential. Given all these factors, the Canucks would be absolute fools to not sign him unless he's demanding well over $4 mil AAV. However the experts seem to think other teams will stop at around $4 mil, which is a bit steep but still within the range of acceptable given all the intangible things Joshua does to help the team win that don't show up in any stat, you just have to watch him and the team play to know it.

    • @kempnercanucks
      @kempnercanucks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Seriously_Unserious I know that Joshua is a Tocchet kind of player. It’s strange how Allvin seems to not be concerned about bringing him back. There’s been very little discussion about Dakota‘s return.

      @@kempnercanucks Unless Alvain and rutherford are keeping quiet about it and will surprise us with another out of nowhere resigning, like they did with Hronek, nothing, sounds like he's gone, they're shopping him, oh, he's signed for 8 years and going to spend his career with us!

    • @LeonExile05

      Joshua is worth 3 mil per atm. If he signs for even one year at that, sure. Then if he proves himself and gets let’s say 50 points then I think we can bump that number up. If he wants to hop on the 4 mil per and under performs there goes his career. I wish him the best of luck if he does leave and hopefully he lives up to his contract regardless- it’s just we can’t afford him and need more of a scoring touch like Guentzel. At the same time I’d also be fine with signing Bertuzzi and Toffoli, along with Joshua and Blueger. That still leaves us without much space for a couple of defensemen unless we can move Mikheyev. If we can do that then I think we could afford either Zadorov, who would then need to play on the 2nd pairing with Soucy and not flop or we can pay Myers and Dillon and then leave Juulsen on the 3rd RD.

      I think he’s saying Suter and Hoglander are plugs. lol Also it sounds like he’s saying Soucy and Zadorov are not top 4 defensemen…
      That’s the problem when there’s a cap crunch, though. You’ve gotta make do. You could argue Garland is a top 6 player, but he’s just slotted on the 3rd for depth. They may trade him to make room for Guentzel or someone else, it’s hard to say at this point. I don’t think Zadorov is worth 6 mil, but I do think Guentzel is worth 8.5 mil without a doubt. If it’s 9 mil or more then it gets very questionable. I am with you in a way. I think they should sign more depth players to fill out better. Like Toffoli, Bertuzzi, Dillon, Myers (On a cheaper contract) and so forth, maybe Tanev.

    Guentzal is a 2 time 40 goal scorer and a perennial 20 goal scorer at the minimum. He is a legit 200 foot playing superstar. End of Story. Getting Guentzal make Petey a 100 point player again.
    Trade Mikheyev for the cap space regardless of the sweetner. the thought is a 2nd rounder, I think SJ would take a prospect and a later round pick,
    I believe a trade something like this would work Mikheyev, Wolanin, Klimovich and 2024 6th (SJ's) for Klim Kostin.
    Frees up $2.75M this year and you get a huge 6'3" winger that has some hands and can play on the 4th line.
    Or trade with MTL bad contract for bad contract. Mikheyev + smaller sweetner (late pick or B level prospect) for Dvorak. Or expand it go Mikheyev & Poolman + pick & prospect for Dvorak & Savard.
    Trade the Poolman LTIR to Vegas, or Washington or even Utah.
    There are lots of scenarios but at the end of the day Van needs a Legit proven goal scorer and playoff performer and that is Guentzel. Trade a late rd pick to CAR for his rights and sign him to an $8x8 contract. the window is now and the next 5 years is the win cycle... it push the chips in and let it ride time....

      They offered him what they could. I’m going to guess it was 4.5 mil per, they can’t afford more than that so he’s likely gone. He’s a great player to have, but not at 6 mil per season.

      @@LeonExile05 but have you noticed that all these reported contracts requests are off. Hronek deserves & is wanting $8M or he’s walking…he signs for less. I don’t think Zadorov is asking for 6M

    • @LeonExile05
      @LeonExile05 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kempnercanucks I still think what they offered him was fair given that he’ll be on the bottom pairing in most situations. I think if he kept playing like he did in the playoffs he would be top 4 all day, I just don’t believe that’s his norm. It seems every teams he’s went to he’s only been top 4 temporarily until the injured player came back and then he ends up in that 5 or 6th slot.
      I do think you have a point about those reported numbers. It could be a tactic from a teams management to feed numbers to the media so they can sign their player. But it could also just have been the higher end tarting point to meet in the middle. Perhaps his resting number was actually around 5-5.5 mil, but 4.5 is just a small increase over his 3.5 that he made last year. I originally had him being worth it at 5, but now I agree with the 4.5 number being the best we can afford due to our cap crunch.

      @kempnercanucks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LeonExile05 Zadorov made 3.75 last year. I think 4.75 is more than fair and I’m okay going up to 5.25 because he’s played in our system and is the kind of player you don’t just let walk. Imo he’s our 2nd pairing LHD. He’s better than Soucy. If he wasn’t there’s no way management would be offering him more than Soucy. He brings so many intangibles. I hope he stays in Vancouver but we will see

    • @kempnercanucks
      @kempnercanucks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have no problem with them spending the money as long as the players produce. The players were very hard to get big contracts, but there is an expectation that they must produce to the level of their contract or more. That is the hardest part about giving people contracts.

  • @user-ji3il6ce2o
    @user-ji3il6ce2o หลายเดือนก่อน

    I know Guenztel is a talented player, but giving 7 years to a guy who’s turning 31 next year could age poorly. Having two guys on your team making 8 million or more while they’re in their mid 30s is very risky. Players will regress at some point after they turn 30, it’s inevitable (look at John Tavares). I know Pettersson needs help, but a guy making 11.6 million should be capable of producing without needing the help of elite wingers. This is the first year they made the playoffs in a 82 game season since 2015, they can’t just go all in after just one playoff run. If they get Guentzel, how much cap space will they have to rebuild the Dcore and get forward depth?
