They put out a double lp called The Golden Age of Rock n Roll. If you take out the doo wop songs, (like the one here on Midnight Special)it’s basically the Ramones Live Alive only recorded several years earlier.
These guys were each certified Ivy League genius’ but played their roles with 100% commitment. They romped through a bunch of rock n roll standards and did something most other bands at Woodstock didn’t do. They gave a high energy stage show. Dancing and jumping and coordinated or not. Absolute best ever version of Wipeout played double time. Guitarist rolling around on the stage while playing. After their 30 minute set, the band triumphantly left the stage as if they’d won the Super Bowl, fists pumping, high step prancing.
They were among the best live bands of the early 1970s and my personal favorite. They hippie bands all looked, sounded and acted alike. The real non-conformists of that era was Sha Na Na. 100 hippie band posters on the wall each trippie dippie design was nearly the same- could barely read the band names. Then 1 Sha Na Na poster. 1950s looking teenage couple dancing. Rock n roll.

Scott Powell (white balding guy in blue) Is a orthopedic surgeon. He also starred in Caddie Shack as one of Rodney Dangerfield's posse.

The original song was like 15 years before. It's like if people dressed in period-appropriate clothing to do a cover of "Poker Face" today.

Not.... really. There was a much more radical shift in society between 1959 and 1974 than 2009-2024. We haven't had anything in the past 15 years that compares to the baby boomers entering adulthood and everything that came with it: The British Invasion, Vietnam, Watergate, the hippie movement, the sexual revolution, etc. Even music has remained largely unchanged. No one would blink an eye if "Poker Face" was a new song in 2024 - sounds just like everything else that's currently popular.

@@bobskaftfeld5611 Bob, I was LOL because I agree with you (Johnny Contardo of ShaNaNa does resemble Billy Crystal). Other commenters of other ShaNaNa videos have also made similar comments about how Johnny resembles Billy. I wasn't laughing at you.

In the Woodstock Movie a guy in the audience has a puzzled look on his face when Sha Na Na began performing and I just thought these guys aren't 50's Rock just bad/ sad parody.
