The Godslayer can be an absolute beast as an offhand weapon if used correctly. The faster light attack that it has can be very deceptive and can make people think they’re safe from being punished when they’re not. It gives you hyper armor that can be paired with any other weapon of your choosing (I usually run guardian swordspear or BK halberd). You can also win trades with other colossal weapons a lot of the time because the light attack can hit before the opponent’s hyper armor activates. It’s situational and not 100% consistent but it’s fairly reliable, especially if you predict that they’re gonna swing with a colossal and you time your attack properly. Also the unique swing arc and hit box can be an absolute unit for mixups when free aimed. There’s a dead zone on the left side of the light attack swing arc that can be exploited by skilled opponents to easily avoid your attacks, but free aiming it to the right or left covers a huge area in front of you and easily catches forward and side rolls. The light attack can also consistently counter jumps because of its range and diagonal swing arc, but sometimes needs to be free aimed depending on the opponents jump direction and positioning, making it pair extremely well with weapons that lack anti-air options. Combine this with the mixups you have available on your main hand weapon and it can be a powerful vortex machine. Also worth mentioning that using it as an offhand weapon bypasses the downside of it having a TERRIBLE AoW, and you have the option of 2 handing it against parry happy opponents. Very slept on weapon imho
psss would be a much easier video lol, they arent so tech heavy. its really just alot about spacing. i think id be put on a stake by some fellow community members if i did a psss video though

Can’t believe giants hunt wasn’t mentioned after landing almost hit with this thing then using giants hunt there’s is like a 80/90% panic roll catch there
I'd say poison/rot/madness/sleep are shltter status effects since you can apply them through rolls. Don't really mind if meme builds such as archers use them however I definitely wouldn't utilize them on top of GUGS which is already an instant win weapon in the normal arena. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you should give the casual PvPers at least somewhat of a chance since they have no clue about the colossal weaknesses in the first place. Enjoyable video otherwise, keep it up!
You seem to have a very strict opinion on what you believe is “ok” or not. Strong disagree with all of your points here. Rot is bm in arena because the vanilla game gives limited boluses per playthrough. But when youre fighting someone with 266ms of latency, they have, literally, overlapping s on their rolls, and theyre, literally, unhittable. So status can be your one and only way of actually doing damage to someone thats mindlessly spamming rolls. Sleep is only problematic on ripple halberd, and even then its countered by being well prepared and knowing to jump the sleep proc. In otherwords is a knowledge check, as is gugs, where if someone doesnt understand their priority, then theyll learn real quick when they mash into its hyperarmor. But thats how people learn, by making mistakes and growing from them. The purpose of my channel is to make all the mistakes for you, so you can reap the benefits of the information that i gained from them. But to cuck someones learning experience by denying them the matchup that encourgsges growth and learning because you assume theyre just a casual who doesnt want to learn is just projection and stereotyping, and youre doing them no services by trying to shield them from learning.
@@Rust_BKT Issue is I've seen you use it against every single opponent not just the laggy ones. If you try to jump sleep chances are you're still getting hit for no reason if they have experience and know about the counter. Forcing free damage = shltter behavior. I'm aware you can outplay most things however that's not my point, tryharding this much against casual arena goers is my issue. Nobody learns from getting stomped by one of the most cancerous builds in the game, all that will do most likely is that they'll drop the game. I remember running into you on one of your streams over a year ago and can guarantee you that I wouldn't have enjoyed our duel nearly as much if you were using something like this instead of the cool CGS + offhand dagger setup. Judging by the fact they're in the arena and not PvP discord server it's safe to assume they just want to have fun. This criticism is all in good faith, sorry if I offended you in any way since it wasn't my intention.
@@anitaremenarova6662 you call this tryharding but using status is such a basic principle that everyone has access to that i really just cant support your argument on that. But everyone has there own perspective of these things. People look at my movement and say “thTs tryhard stuff”, but in truth im hardly paying any attention to my movement, sometimes i got the zoomies and start spinnin. Its not tryhard at all, just adhd. What id consider tryhard is wht ive been WANTING to start doing, which is optimizing my talis, armor, and weapons setup depending on my matchup, and playing optimally. Because i dont practice this, i get smoked when i do tournaments, where now im having to try and implement skills that i dont regularly practice in the public arena. Imo, forcing garunteed damage is a part of the game, and you better be ready because its going to be a lot more prevalent with some changes from the dlc. But status is never free. You have to keep up pressure and maintain good positioning so that you can punish a bolus, which on high lat, can only be done on prediction. And again i dunno where you get this assumption that peolle fighting in the arena arent wanting to get better or learn new things. You dont know if that person is in the pvp discord or not, and you dont know how they like their fights. Dont project your opinions on what you thinks is toxic onto other people, particularly in this game where clearly everyone has a different idea of what that means
@@Rust_BKT Yeah and that's *BAD* for the multiplayer life of the game. You should only be damaged when *YOU* make a mistake not get status procd due to spaghetti code regardless of what you do. Poison/rot are less severe examples since you can fail to punish the bolus but it's still a lazy way to win fights that requires nothing but attack spam. Never said that, they want to learn things not get stomped by someone that should be fighting people in their own league. Don't act like talisman swapping is the thing that makes a difference against casuals, they already stand no chance. Huh? I can and will do that, not sure why you were so surprised when the guy in the video got fed up with you. Seems like you've spent too much time amongst the tryhards and lost touch with the rest of the playerbase.
Been enjoying all your videos! Thanks a lot for these guides! I’ve been struggling to decide if I want to main normal greatswords like claymore/kgs or colossal. Which type do you think is better for pvp?
@@Rust_BKT thanks for the reply! After a bit of experimentation, I’ve decided to go colossal (GUGs). Surprisingly I found claymore harder to play than colossal
@@beatboxjeffrey idk if you still care but you have to remember this is talking about the absolute meta. Most players are pretty bad at the game so you can do well with almost anything if you are skilled. Colossals and Greatswords are certainly not the bottom of the barrel when it comes to all the weapons in Elden Ring so you can still have a lot of success with them.
Hopefully I might be able to apply some of these tech and tips to colosal weapons all those ultra greatswords look like a nail when you are holding a giantcrusher, but to be honest im more of a fan of the chicken wing it takes me back to ds2.
I actually had the best results with a lightning Zwiehander but a lot of that is moveset. Heavy/cold GUGs is pretty strong as well. I would imagine at level 200-225 quality and lightning builds may jump ahead of heavy, but that is beyond meta levels Also godslayer is closer to a dex/fth build, a lot of the true combos get scary wIth the enhanced weapon damage of dex and quicker animations
Is there any reason you're using poison grease instead of rot grease? They seem to have the same amount of buildup, and both work with Lord of Rot talisman. Just wondering since you seem to have both yet appear to prefer the poison grease.
You didnt mention anything about offhand combos, which is weird to me. The cr1 combos into most offhand attacks, this includes: Dagger Rapier Fist Claw Straight sword Curved sword Axe Hammer Spear Fast spells (carian slicer/catch flame and others) Greatsword Greataxe Great hammer Halberd (my fav) Greatspears (i havent tested this one a lot it could be a pseudo-combo) Another thing to mention is that with most of these, cr1 l1 r1 rollcatches if they tend to roll inwards and its pretty well unpunishable. I probably also missed some. This is an amazing feature of the ugs in my opinion. Pairing gugs with commanders standard is usually what I run cause it has some of the best mixup and whiffpunish potential this game has to offer without being super toxic or meta.
The very long list of offhand combos is mostly why i didnt mention then, and going on to the initial statement i made of “most of your offhand weapons are better supported by a superior mainhand weapon”. Its neat that they true combo, but it adds little to the concepts that i can cover with the 2h moveset, without overcomplicating everything by mentioning every one of the offhand options
@@GrouseMan14 never said its useless, its just very specific and makes an already complicated set of concepts even more difficult to grasp if someone isnt already familiar with them.
@@Rust_BKT I do agree with that, yeah. 2 handed ugs is one of the best teaching tools for spacing, blending, rollcatching, wavedashing, and trading all in one package. Its the foundation of playstyles and weapons like psgs, shunter, and halberd (though thats a little arguable, but the spacing and punishing feels similar to me). Of course adding an offhand weapon makes things more complicated for a beginner but its very important to live a little, even as a newbie. Games are for fun! So if youre bored with ugs then its an amazing change of pace.
idk why most wavedashing video on youtube don't talk about the fact that you can "store" your crouch attack for a fairly long time, It seem like the most important aspect of wavedashing
Is Carian Slicer a good alternative to an offhand dagger on a Int build? It can't backstab of course, and it requires FP to cast, but it seems to do quite a bit more damage and has better range than most daggers, and the frame data suggests that it would be a suitable substitute in a majority of situations, on top of having a more expansive move selection with added running and jumping attacks, even in the offhand.
Yeah I always felt like UGS was not that good in this game. What do you think about storm stomp? Is it cheap or OP? People go to my profile to complain about me using it even though I literally just use an UGS and like 2 storm stomps per match and don't use any elemental status like poison or limited use items and reload my saves or even any advanced tech and animation cancels. Why do people consider a storm stomp more cheap than any of these other things?
Quick, low cost, instant hyperarmour, aoe and guarantees an r1follow up, which is especially good on colossals. But it's got a lot of endlag and easily punished with jump attacks. It's definitely a good ash, but hardly overpowered especially with how silly some ashes are in elden ring. Never heard anyone call it or consider it cheap before, probably just a bit of salt and annoyed at being caught by it. Just play what you wanna play either way my man
@@garchamayne4254it is definitely OP if used right. If they counter it with jumps than stop using it and stand still then jump and 180 while jump attacking to hit them. Spamming storm stomp counters many things.
pretty overpowered, i dont think thats hard to argue, its a low effort roll catch that garuntees a hit. doesnt work as well on high lat, and it just goes further to punish the "attack first lose first" gameplay that is the unfortunate reality of these games. I honestly think that if it didnt have hyperarmor, similar to flaming strike, but providing aoe coverage, then it would be fine.
I talked with gabri about it a while back, i agree with some things, disagree with others, or otherwise just think the focus is misplaced. But in general, their intentions are good, so i hope for the best
As a dark souls 3 Fume ultra great sword main, with over 2000 hours in ultra greatsword pvp, the downsides are negligible compared to ds3. I mean, with such a fast running attack (and one that isn’t backstab bait for anyone who knows what they’re doing. Hey did I mention that the ds3 running attack is your main way of approaching the meta weapons like thrusting swords straight swords and curved swords?) and on demand rolling attacks, absurdly low stamina consumption(especially for the rolling attacks, you could barely do 4 of them in ds3 with 40 endurance + ring of favor with my FUGS,) how could I possibly say elden ring’s ultra gs are anything but a direct upgrade to my playstyle
No more r1-r1 true combo, your attacks can now be jumped, 2nd r1 is still a free backstab. But definitely still an upgrade from ds3, and i sure aint mad about that. Ds3 ultras were brutal to play with, i can actually play the weapon now and not have to pray that my opponent just makes a “oops” and walks into my hitbox
@@Rust_BKT indeed. Although the fact that the rolling thrust attacks in ds3 are unreactable, and the fact that rolling had a quicker recovery than elden ring did help a ton with baiting rolls and catching them with the r1.
I'm gonna be very honest with you: the reason most people are extremely fed up with tryhards is they seemingly went absolutely unhinged sometimes. I was always an invader so I know how salty one can become when ganks constantly destroy you with overpowered BS. However that was back in DS3, and Elden Ring invaders kinda tend to demonize and genuinely feel paranoid about anyone who chooses to play with a friend. They all have this "cool guy PvP nerd" attitude. Most of them actually from my arena experience, reminds me of the meme of the raging crying guy wearing a calm face mask. Sometimes they seem to be appreciative towards my build that uses weird and mostly bad stuff like the magma whip or the sacrificial axe... as long as they don't start losing, then sweat breaks through and nothing becomes honorable for them. I even had occasions when the winning tryhard, after absolutely annihilating me, deliberately disconnected so on his screen it'll look like I raged out. Guess he really wanted that "dumb noob ragequit on Elden Ring PvPer" caption lol. They need to keep the illusion of their "pro player status" high up. I don't say every competitive PvPer is like that. For the record I mostly enjoy fighting these guys cause I feel like I become a better player from the experiences. That however doesn't make everyone feel the same way. Sometimes you just wanna have fun in the arena after a day of work, and you're really not in the mood for some tryhard to flex his gamer energies on you. If someone is really that skilled and confident in his abilities, he can try to beat me at least once with something that's not the current absolute broken meta.
this seems like a loud minority sort of situation, and alot of presumptions about waht the other guy on the other side of the screen is thinking/feeling. as an example: say im fighting someone whos incredibly latent to me, and im trying to space their attacks and wiff punish, use good fundamentals, but due to the high latency, i jsut cant hit them, and they come barreling at me like a crackhead, and i get hit by phantom range thats 5x the range of their weapon, then im DEFINATELY going to change strategies and swap to something that has better aggressive potential like starfists, because the latency that we have is literally unplayable. That could EASILY be seen as shitter behavior, but from my perspective, yes im frustrated, and i want to swap to a setup thats less frustrating to use. Which is why i go out of my way to point out the clip where the dude throws a tantrum in the middle of a fight. from HIS perspective, he GENUINELY thinks im a shitter, and deserves all of the negativity he aimed at me. He feels completely justified in his actions. but from another lens, it seems much less the case. The most important thing, i think, is not to bring ego into your fights. we all win, we all lose. if youre opponent uses stuff you dont like, 1. accept that this is the game we play, 2. block them if you want, or 3. adapt and overcome. even if someone is acting incredibly negatively toward you, its within your power to choose how you respond to it.
@@Rust_BKT That is true though. Tbh I don't block or ban whatever the other guy uses since I feel like the PvP community is very small already and the answer is definately not cutting the remainder of the playerbase short when I don't like a playstyle. My real issue here is actually not in the players, but the game itself. There always was a meta in every Souls, and it was always everyone's choice whether to use it or not. I usually don't blame my opponent for using the best stuff since I could've done that too, choosing not was a personal preference after all. I just feel like the game doesn't give enough encouragement for newbies or casuls like me to keep on playing, and slowly everything I really liked in PvP is slipping away. While there were pros in duels back in DS3 days where you could test your skill against some really good guys, we also had absolutely innocent fun battles, like the fist-only gentlemen's brawl, the cosplay battles or my personal favourite, the battle of ridiculous builds. The community was so tight these events reached a lot of people and I probably had the most fun ever in gaming at that times. Elden Ring however just doesn't allow this to happen. Mostly because of limited playercount, and while I stay and hope DLC brings the glory days back, a lot of guys just grow more tired and more frustrated, hence the toxicity. I don't justify being this butthurt about the game, cause yk... when I feel fed up I just turn it off, simple as that. I just tried to think about what these guys might think when they do stuff like these, and instantly connected it with my nostalgia towards the great Dark Souls 3 pvp times.
ive always found the "dont blame the player, blame the game" attitude to be very crass, why shouldnt we have some standards for people and not be fine with each other being douchebags just because the game allows them too
please make a guide about locking on and off to your opponent. It's not obvious why you should go for either one and no one mentions it. I meqn generally, not for specific weapons.
Colossal Swords are a weapon class I lose to all the time and lose with all the time. Very consistently losing whenever a Colossal Sword is on the field…
No i havent done a vid on remapping, but id say that the best binds you want to use are the ones youre most used to. Most everyone i talk to has different binds
From my experience of doing invasions with a Strength build. I would say GUGS is a pretty excellent off meta choice for invasions. Like you said, less experience players struggle against UGS, and the wide sweeping attacks are really effective at crowd control. Being such a long weapon, with wide horizontal hit boxes and a really solid thrust poke in the RR1, along with the hyperarmor and armor breaking potential, UGS is a really solid choice as a main weapon. So long as your running some support like Serpent Hunter, CGS, or quickswap Halberd for catching roll spam. UGS can shred in invasions. Also you forgot a massively important, crucial detail. When Guts from berk has 800 ping, the UGS has no weakness. You can’t rollcatch a laggard, you can’t whiff punish a laggard, you can’t even jump punish or backstab a laggard. Because of this, Ugs from guts is actually the strongest weapon class in the game until fromsoft fixes their shitty netcode (spoiler: they never will) Don’t sleep on the berk sword from nuts mr. Rusty Bucky 😠
agree with the first part but i disagree with the second. high ping makes ugs useless, since it cant roll catch as long as the opponent double rolls out of hitstun, then they have to work their ass off to try and land another hit out of neutral, which the opponent is far more likely to appropriately react roll and punish the ugs than vice versa. on higher ping, the backstab is even easier, since backstabs work through s. so even if the ugs rolls away to try to avoid the grab, it is still likely to connect and suck them back into it
@@Rust_BKTyou can roll catch with storm stomp, chill/poison mist, and sacred blade if timed right. Bloodhoundstep and gugs poke is also scary to run away from. Then you have frozen pots and offhand dagger or cleanrot to punish.
@@Rust_BKT oh sorry you mean spam rolling away. I thought you meant roll catch in general like if they spam roll around you but are still in range. Yea you're right you can't roll catch people escaping.

88 is minimum, for backswing of 2h shir. 109 for offstoc, but you dont gain anything by mashing into offstoc unless youre using a fast setup anyway, so id say 88 is all you need for ugs
I don't have it uploaded on any of those sites sadly :( The song is called "my brother" from the Berserk anime I believe. However the original is much longer and Rust needed a short minute long sample for the intro.
While I can see what you are saying, twohanded straight swords and powerstanced daggers are extremely hard to play with, especially against weapons with hyper armor. They both require more skill than you would think, which is why you don’t see them much.
@@OopstheTurkey I can see the argument for the daggers, but PSSS have a pretty low barrier of entry. Even before 1.10, I was able to demolish people in invasions very easily with them. They almost always broke poise even then, had monstrous DPS, and had fairly easy, intuitive feeling roll catches
@@michaeljohnston8891 Oh yeah powestanced straight swords (PSSS) are crazy good and don’t require as much skill. I said a two handed straight sword require a lot of skill, you never see it in duels because it is hard to master but a I’ve seen a couple people have some really good combos with it.

Stamp uppercut was the go-to in DS3, mainly due to the damage negate of the stomp. Just stomp into it! Haven't tried it too much in Elden Ring yet.

Pretty sick intro
Been enjoying all your videos! Thanks a lot for these guides!
I’ve been struggling to decide if I want to main normal greatswords like claymore/kgs or colossal. Which type do you think is better for pvp?
Neither is “good”, but both are fun. Very different weapons, claymore has a much lower barrier to entry.
Hopefully I might be able to apply some of these tech and tips to colosal weapons all those ultra greatswords look like a nail when you are holding a giantcrusher, but to be honest im more of a fan of the chicken wing it takes me back to ds2.
chicken leg is pretty badass ngl
As always, awesome 🤩
I actually had the best results with a lightning Zwiehander but a lot of that is moveset. Heavy/cold GUGs is pretty strong as well. I would imagine at level 200-225 quality and lightning builds may jump ahead of heavy, but that is beyond meta levels
Also godslayer is closer to a dex/fth build, a lot of the true combos get scary wIth the enhanced weapon damage of dex and quicker animations
I prefer baiting them with uncharged R2s then punishing them with a quick R1 when they strife behind to BS me works almost every time.

Is there any reason you're using poison grease instead of rot grease? They seem to have the same amount of buildup, and both work with Lord of Rot talisman. Just wondering since you seem to have both yet appear to prefer the poison grease.
@@张军0907 its honestly just because rot is banned on ladder, and i generally try to avoid using things that are banned from competitive play.
You didnt mention anything about offhand combos, which is weird to me.
The cr1 combos into most offhand attacks, this includes:
Dagger
Rapier
Fist
Claw
Straight sword
Curved sword
Axe
Hammer
Spear
Fast spells (carian slicer/catch flame and others)
Greatsword
Greataxe
Great hammer
Halberd (my fav)
Greatspears (i havent tested this one a lot it could be a pseudo-combo)
Another thing to mention is that with most of these, cr1 l1 r1 rollcatches if they tend to roll inwards and its pretty well unpunishable.
@@Rust_BKT I always prefer to run a wacky build which makes this VITAL INFORMATION regardless of how useless it is lol

Yea slicer works similar to dagger, catch flame is prob always better cuz it has stupid amounts of poise damage, but thats int vs faith
STAMP UPWARD CUT SUPREMACY (Olive Garden Bread Stick Swing)
once i starting spinning with gugs i put that old crouch cancel away😂
Just play what you wanna play either way my man
I only use storm stomp on Gugs for cancer or very sweaty players because it is OP. It's basically a guaranteed hit because Gugs is so long.
Would like to hear your take on the onlywifu Elden PvP videos. I was a fan of part 1 but disagreed with a whole lot of part 2.
I talked with gabri about it a while back, i agree with some things, disagree with others, or otherwise just think the focus is misplaced. But in general, their intentions are good, so i hope for the best
@@Rust_BKT gotcha thank you very much. Keep up the great work!
Although the fact that the rolling thrust attacks in ds3 are unreactable, and the fact that rolling had a quicker recovery than elden ring did help a ton with baiting rolls and catching them with the r1.
very informative, great vid'

Hey Rust - did you do a video on controller remapping? I thought I saw the controller overlay showing triangle for crouch?
No i havent done a vid on remapping, but id say that the best binds you want to use are the ones youre most used to. Most everyone i talk to has different binds
Playing with colossal greatswords is like playing a whole different game LAMO
i noticed you use triangle to crouch. Can you share your full controller binds?
Because of this, Ugs from guts is actually the strongest weapon class in the game until fromsoft fixes their shitty netcode (spoiler: they never will)
Don’t sleep on the berk sword from nuts mr.
