I was you when younger…save all your money for the ISF if that’s what you really want…forget spending money to modify the 350 if you got a hard on for the ISF….you’ll make it happen someday. You wont regret it.
ISF are great, and my brother and friends have them. I just didn’t want to spend the money and got a 4Runner and now Tacoma.
Sold this IS350 and had to opportunity to get another one cheap …and supercharged it. Lol.
A little more power than a stock F, (429whp and 523 crank) but one day I’d like to do a GSF or something.

I did this on my is250 sounds great! Also picked up the RR Racing intake tube thanks to you vids, thanks bro!

Inside the box there are fins to direct the air and reduce turbulence, i cut/drill/dremel in between the fins instead of drilling through them like here. F sport air box has no fins at all as the box is designed for the air. Looks nicer too - even though you wont see it again and it takes much longer to file down and clean up.
r u saying remove those fins?
@@airuzair2424 i left the fins and cut multiple holes between them
@@Joe-jt8qp on my lexus nx200t, i drilled 14 - 1/2 in holes & it helped, along w/AMSOIL in everything, get up in2 the low 30's MPG... changing air filter next... did not know about fins in box, will think about removing them...
I don't those fins do anything. Usually that's just part of the design mold when making a plastic product and depending on the design may be used to reinforce the plastic. Those "fins" are absent on the F-Sport intake box because the F-Sport logo is pressed in the plastic and the additional air hole is also reinforced around the edges.
I did this to my GS400. Sounds great but one issue is heat soak. After about an hour the car would get sluggish. I plugged the hole and no more noise but also no more sluggishness when hot.
The hole was up front pulling in air? Could be the design of that bay and V8 over the V6. I haven’t had any heat soak issues, seems like cool air gets to it 🤷♂️
@@MartyMotoring Yeah I bet you're right, the GS400 engine bay doesn't have all that plastic panel stuff at the very least. I bet the airflow is different on the IS350. Anyway, if the Lexus engineers made it that way, then it's probably ok. They know what they're doing.
If i happend there it would probably happen with a aftermarket air intake . Does it?
@@dawnpoint do they really ? ? ? engineers design a car 2 drive/work 4 every1, including little old ladies & people like u or me, those that drive in city or like me, on hi-way most of time/miles...
Good on you to take the time to do this modification for everyone who wants it !!!
So i did this to my is250 which had no other mods, and it now sounds significantly more agressive, best part is its no louder when cruising, only after 3500rpm at full throttle does it have a deeper, louder and more agressive tone. Plus theres no heat soak as the holes are away from the exhaust manifold

Just did this in my 3IS and it works, must more growl
You should have done a non hole and after sounds
I love your content dawg keep it up, I watch all your videos my next car will be a 350 same gen, and you know i gotta get the Vlands and I might even get the Invidia cat back 🤔 what you think?
Sounds like a perfect setup to me!
I just took off the mesh....I really dont think it needs more. The results were way better gas mileage...smoth throttle and high end speed...thanks
What mesh are you talking about? On the air filter?
@@tristananderson235 steel mesh on the top part of the filter box that holds the charcoal filter...its built into the plastic of the box but with a utility knife you can cut it out.

does the f sport intake all fit in ok and what is the benefits ? just a better induction noise

@@MartyMotoring hey brother. I noticed under my top there is a riveted filter from factory. I deleted it by breaking the rivets. I still have my air filter. Did I need that filter I deleted or?
Any improvement is mpg, hp, after installing the f sport intake?
A HOLE toward the bottom of the Air Box...hmmm LOL What gave you that not-so-genius idea? So much for filtered air and moisture.
You must not be familiar with the design…The factory design and F Sport design pull cold air from the front and the bottom of the air box. Lots of Toyotas do this.
The air filter is at the top of the box, along with the MAF sensor, so the air flows from bottom to top, to intake tube and then the throttle body. There are no issues with moisture or unfiltered air.
You should care more how to bring more fresh air inside the air filter box from the bumper, a hole and a bass sound won't give you anything in power-torque-mileage.
Barely noticeable
sounds a bit like a supercharger a subtle one
Nah supercharge it's whistle
That sound weak 😅
@@randyorton4747 but you got a pussy honda in ur profile pic
Mine already has a hole in deferent place but I think it’s stock should I make a hole where you did?
would just the hole in the box make a similar sound to yours? or would you want the air intake u have aswell?
sounds awesome man!
most probably just the hole
For that induction intake sound, just the hole will work! A hard pipe intake and exhaust will also change up the sound.
@@MartyMotoring hey bro would you be able to send the link where you got your air box
Wondering if it really matters to get a drop in filter with the hole compared to a normal one with the hole
Do you recommend getting the smooth tube over the stock tube? I finally got a k&n filter yesterday for my gs350 and I feel a major difference car takes less throttle to move and powerband is smoother.
The smooth tube does work better due to less air turbulence
@@MartyMotoring allright, I will look into getting one. Thanks Marty
What about doing 3 holes? Sound or any performance improvements?
Have you done it already? 😅
Nice videos man! Keep it up! 👍
Did this and felt less power tbh but dope video

Same tbh
Hey bro, Great video. What fog lights are you Running? & Did you change the bulb on your headlights? I have the same ones but the main head light bulb is more of a fluorescent yellow.
what is this gonna do performance wise? idc for aesthetics
Was thinking of doing this but my intake box lays flat over the engine so this would only bring more hot air in.
I too out the mesh filter from the top of the air box , I put in a after market filter. I did the hole in the air box as well as a HPN intake pipe, and I now have a check engine light. I’ve tried tightening everything and even took it out and reinstalled everything and still I’m getting a check engine light. Do you think it’s too much air going through there? I have the GS 350
Try disconnecting the battery for a bit, ecu may need a reset.
Was it an HPS intake pipe you got? Did you ever get this issue resolved? I was thinking of doing this same setup.
Good video man!
I did the air box mod and my gas mileage dropped from 22-23 to 19-20. Definitely don't recommend this unless you prefer sound over gas mileage
Thank you,was about to do it.

better to use a whole-cutter drill bit assembly to drill it . Does this hole not draw in heated air from the engine bay that may lose power although probably not enough to notice
That would be easy if I had one lol. And probably - but this is how the Fsport box is designed too.
@@MartyMotoring (: many thx for uploading all these invaluable insights into the lexus is350 I'm making my way through some and appreciate your time and efforts
Marty is there any reason why your Megan racing front strut brace is angled evenly over the engineand mine as well as some others on the forums have a rearward angle towards the windshield???
What tire size are you running?
Good job! Does sound better
i did this on is350 and now on my gs460, except i made a bigger hole like the f-sport intake box
On the old intake, the hole was a lot bigger and better sound. Not sure if I’ll replicate that
How big
@@MartyMotoring may i ask why not a bigger hole? I wanna do three inches? too big?
Do you have link to air box bro I would appreciate it I just picked up my is350
Will this mod trigger engine light code?
Would this work on a is220d ?
Good video....IMO I like the box stock. I still get the Supercharger sound with my JOEZ intake..
The supercharger sound you guys are referring to is just the transmission sound - not the intake mod. Maybe it didn't translate well in video...
The hole provides a noticeable growl of induction sound at 3000-4000 RPM and adds to the exhaust and transmission sound.
@@MartyMotoring Oh okay I get the growl also around the same RPMS 4000 AND UP.
That "whine" sound is from the Direct Injection , way louder when the engine is cold

Are there any issues with drilling a hole? Like will it cause damage in the long run?
Did you figure out if it does?
@@InfamousSecrets nope, no clue

the f sport air intake box has an even bigger hole at the same place
Would this mod induce hot-air into the intake?
Can I do this with my is250? Will the F sport fit as well? And most of the things you do your 350 I can do to my 250 right?
Yes you can! And yup most things can be done to both cars
Hello,
is it the same Intake like the GS300 s19?
If you add the front rear strut bar do you need to do the REAR also??
It’s optional but would help!
Can you do that by drilling to the original air box?
Yes
A K&n air filter with that mod would be insane
Got the k&n filter and thinking of doing this
I can vouch that you absolutely feel a difference in more than just sound if you do this and drop in a k&n.
Throttle responds better and I THINK my mpg went up slightly because of it. Nothing major though.
Hey Marty is the RR Tune necesary with the RR Intake? I just received my intake in the mail =/
Got my RR Racing Tune about a month ago it's worth it 👍😎
The Fsport lower box has a huge square hole. It also doesn’t have the ribs on the inside of the box.
True - I didn’t want to go super big. I actually just ordered the F sport lower for a great price to compare them.
@@MartyMotoring That will be awesome. Thanks Marty.
No before and after effects? I didn't understand what was the difference
Before is just normal...the hole provides a growl at 3000-4000 RPM of induction sound.
@@MartyMotoring hi Marty I installed a cold air intake took off the stock one mine is a 2007 is 250 you think the cold air intake is better than stock one ??
Good video!
How big was the hole? And what if the hole is bigger?
I used to have it about 2 inches, now it’s about 1. Too big of a hole may defeat the purpose of the box
Hey there! Where did you get this OEM box from? I wanna get mine back to stock but can't find one. I mean, there are few, but they don't cost 40$ say 140$.
go 2 a bone yard... they may hav 1...
@Damir I know it's 2 years ago, but am I to understand you made this mod and aren't happy with it? Did you consider making the hole bigger like the F-Sport box is?
What’s this 2nd like carbon/charcoal filter in the top of the factory box would it have any positive or negative effect if I remove it ?
RR Racing recommends to remove it for their intake I have and I have mine removed
Are those Depo Headlights?
VIP Motoz!
Will it be worth it to do it with the stock air box? And stock pipes
Stock air box makes the best power :) Stock exhaust is a little restrictive though
Do you think this will work on my 02' gs430??
I don't see why not!
merci
I tried this and I barely hear a difference in induction sound.
Swiss cheese it like I did
Has anyone experienced a check engine light after this?
I haven't since I did the mod so it's safe
Yes. My mass air flow is sensing too much air and throws a check engine light
It made my Lexus run like shit , it doesn’t even run unless you have your foot on the gas
This is how the F sport air boxes are designed. You may have something wrong with your air filter or MAF sensor. Unplugging the battery will reset the ECU and get new air and fuel ratios to make the car run better.
Whatsup with the wierd 2nd filter in the cap...does that stay?
You can take it out if you want. I ended up doing that later.
Pros and cons??
1 pro 10 cons
How big was the original hole??????
Kevin Pulio it’s a huge square hole.
There is no original hole in the non F Sport boxes. Which is why I drilled one.
The F sport ones have a huge square hole.
will this hurt the car in any way? Wont this cause the air filter to clog up quicker and hurt the engine???
No, since the airbox already has induction from the grille and the F sport box is designed like this. It’s just less restriction on air coming into the box, and it all passes through the filter.
@@MartyMotoring Awesome thanks bro
Yeah but hotter air.. Heat is a bastard.
A van Zyl depending on the car, other replies have said they encountered head leaking issues and sluggish engine after an hour or so but any is2/350 have been fine

The stock box design is already a Cold Air Intake actually - and has a the best performance results according to tests.
The stock intake pulls air right from the grille area.

Does this mod give any power to the throttle?
no
Question: Hopefully you see this because I need answers!!!!! Why not just a cold air intake?
The factory setup is technically already a cold air intake. Those cone style ones just add some sound and pull in hot air from the engine bay. You need a box to seal the filter, really. The stock box also has the best performance results. The “cold” air intake stuff claims horsepower but it’s usually not accurate. A stock box, nice filter and smooth air tube is the way to go.
What is the purpose of the hole?
The tests done by others show performance gains with the FSport box which this is modeled after, and it has a cool induction sound. I now have the legit FSport box and it’s great!
why does the is350/250 have that whining noise
Transmission whine

Yup - but also a lot more money. This box is cheaper and you can make your own hole for free
