That charcoal filter is actually a EPA thing. It stops fumes from coming out of the engine and into the atmosphere after you turn your car off. Other than that it does nothing. So nothing big really. I would imagine it would get quite restrictive after many miles were put on the car.
@@Vanithoth I bought an aftermarket air intake box modeled after the OEM one cause I couldn't find a used one anywhere, I really hope that mesh isn't important in the long run cause it didn't have one when i unboxed it.
You can see more details in my “DIY air intake” video, but once you have a filter on the crank case side, you can cap the side on the intake or delete it like I did with a straight pipe
So I personally would not make the hole in the intake..heat soak..I did remove the mesh and it make a big difference in performance and miles per gallon if you drive it slow. The car has a good intake airflow already...not restricted but aperently the mesh was restrictive...I have a tune and boltons on my car. Removing the mesh and putting a f sport filter took it to a perfect level...thanks for the content I hope everyone removes the mesh.
are you sure we don't need the mesh? I bought an aftermarket air intake lid cause I couldn't find any OEM ones for sale. it did not come with that EPA mesh thing, I really hope it doesn't ruin the car in the long run
@@mazpr2025 i couldnt find a used oem one anywhere so i ended up buying an aftermarket air intake lid and an oem f sport lower box and tube. was nervous though cause the aftermarket upper lid didnt have that mesh
No, but you can drill a smaller circular hole very easily, or if you just don’t want to do all this and have some money you can buy the f-sport lower air box, it’s about $70-$90 depending on where it’s for sale and it does the exact same thing, the whole f-sport intake doesn’t make a big difference overall as I have seen, but it’s just up to if you want to go all the way to get it, I’m just buying the lower air box for induction noise
Dodgy? This is exactly the same as the OEM F sport air box. I guess Lexus engineers don't know what they're doing allowing hot air to enter the airbox by leaving that big old hole there😂. You bloody armchair engineers always trying to talk shit 😂
Definitely 'sounds' faster, lol. I like it! Will be doing on both my Lexus and Pathfinder.
just did this waiting for my f sport intake tube in the mail haha sounds great thanks man

you think it's really that bad in the long run with no mesh?
@@leocastrillo759 It would be better to remove the mesh than to have it on there. Removing it will do nothing but potentially increase air flow.

Ur 350 is clean. I cut out the upper mesh filter and put a k and n. Guys is the extra hole in the lower box going to help?
Sounds dope I will try this
What tool did you use to cut the big hole?
@@henryscarsnz I used a drill bit, and drilled a ton of small holes
I did the air box mod and my gas mileage dropped from 22-23 to 19-20. Definitely don't recommend this unless you prefer sound over gas mileage
Will doing this void extended warranty?
Just did this airbox mod and my muffler delete drowns out the sound of the intake lol
Im thinking about doing this at my rav4 but im considering about the drawbacks that ive read on some forums like hot air sucking etc..
And the drop in gas mileage
Jesus. Night and Day difference. I'm doing this ASAP
Can I ask why all the little holes then the big hole? Not just cut it out at once?
Instead of cutting the whole thing its easier to drill small holes and less cutting.
@@tadas8808 true that
the little clip to remove my maf sensor snapped off because it was so brittle. How do i remove the wiring harness from the sensor now?
Quick quest the lines of the intake do those matter I know one of them you put the little filter but does the upper line matter

Should I disconnect my battery before this, or will it be ok if I don’t turn the ignition on while doing this?
I did not unhook my battery during this mod!
@@pigeon853 ok, thanks for the quick reply 👍🏻
Nice bru. Ill do it to my car too.
About to do this to my GS350 tmw, any issues bro?

do i need a third party air intake tube?
Not necessary

*there is another metal mesh on the TB to catch anything that may pass through.
The ISF has the hole from factory, a V8 5L, way more heat. I do not see where the issue is on smaller displacement.

What are the sizes of those silicone elbows from the throttle body and the airbox side? And where did you buy them?
Check out my other video on how to make a diy Fsport intake! The sizes are listed there!
Do you know the exact dimensions of the extra hole on F-Sport lower intake air box?
I do not

You can get a f sport tube or I recommend the rr racing carbon fiber intake tube it’s $139 but it’s on sale rn for $109

Does the lower airbox fit on a gs350? It looks the same
GS and RC should be the same, IS has different clips for the top and lower boxes.
You feel more power?
Not really any more power, but it sounds waaayy better! You wont regret it
will it do just fine if i don't break off those little pieces inside?
Yes!
Perfect way to mess up a proper designed air box lol
They come like this on the F sport from Lexus lol.

No!

then buy the lower box directly from lexus and it still pass emission yes even in california smh 🤦♂🤦♂
