Dude Awesome Vid not only the BA Atlatl but the Swiss shaving horse! In all my, 40 + years of a Union woodpecker/ carpenter I've learned sumpin new Thank You!
I'm loving your channel, you are a true craftsman. Where did you get the design for your bow building bench? I'd like to see a video of you making one.
Thank you very much. I followed some plans I found and modified them a bit. I wanted to get some serious usage time put in with it before building another, but I do intend to make a video for the redesign and build. Here’s the site for the design I liked best. www.rogueturtle.com/articles/shaving.php
Yes. That’s my understanding too. You can leave more wood, but rock being denser takes less material to create the balance and power. I personally like have just the wood. If I leave it long enough it balances well for me and feels right.
What a fun exploration!!! Became aware of the sophistocation of this tool on show "Ancient Engineering"
I’ve heard of that show, but haven’t seen it!
Please make more styles of atlatls I love this video and design
Thank you! It’s not at the top of my list at the moment, but I do intend to circle back around to atlatls eventually.

Excellent video
Thank you sir!
What did you finish the thrower with? The black stuff you rubbed on it?
@@Goodoldpal_ ashes and charcoal mixed with an oil finish
@@EccentricArtisan Thanks for the reply! I plan on making one of these. What oil did you use?
@@Goodoldpal_ it’s been so long I can’t recall now lol
Possibly boiled linseed
The stones are also for weight to balance the thrower and the dart while hunting in the ready position. That’s my understanding anyway.
