This video could happily be followed up by both theory on a lower level (what the bass is a 5:th?) and higher level (how to Charles), and I for one would watch them instantly!
Great lesson! If some constructive criticism is fine then I think it would be nice to add the chords in the backing track along with the drums to put the bassline into harmonic context for newer players. Also if you choose to incorporate said backing tracks into future videos then choosing to share them to TH-cam viewers would provide us something more to practice with to come up with our own basslines! Excited to see where the channel will go :)
I thought Charles was a guest, then thanks to the comment section, I know it's just his second channel. Subbed and hope you get the subscribers you deserve.
Dude is truly brilliant. I go around and around with the guitarist in my church band about how he thinks everything should be done by ear and how I want to analyze stuff. I think “just doing it” leaves a lot of options on the table. Analysis is fun to me and makes me more able to be original. Subbed
It seems incredible that you start with this electric bass channel, it will be of great support, and rest assured that you will have my support if possible, Charles, thank you very much
i cant wait to put these tips into practice! Berthoud ol' chap, your a diamond. i've made notes an found a list of common chord progressions to work with. time to rock some socks!
Love how easy you relayed music theory components to track in this process. Love the video and he concept of the new channel. Looking forward to future content.
Once my bass teacher taught me how cord progressions worked, that 1 one cord is just the 1st note of the scale and so on. Coming back to this video I completely understand what hes talking about.
The fact that you propose sheet music and not only tabs, is just magical for us classically-trained musicians. Not a lot of pro's out there doing that. GREAT, indeed.
Hey Charles, just wanna say I don't even play bass (guitarist) but I still really enjoy your videos and think you are an absolute beast of a musician. Keep crushing it! ❤
It is great to see one of the best bass players in the entire world sharing how to make magic from beggining. This channel is going to be a real succes im sure and most important its going to chage lives.
Really great tips and super easy to follow! I'm not a theory guy by amy stretch, but I sort of picked up patterns similar to this naturally by listening to some of my favorite basslines and noodling around. Now I can apply some structure and purpose to my noodling!
i can’t read sheet music and i have no instrumental knowledge outside of singing, but i was surprised i knew a lot of this stuff! like, i know what sounds good to me and why i want something in the songs i write, but i never learned any technical terms outside of what measures and chords are, so i could never explain to someone why i chose something, only that it “matches the vibes i want”. i’m saving up money to buy a bass, so thank you in advance!
👍🏼 There’s not many bass teachers doing these types of videos/lessons. I’d love to see more examples… specifically it’d be great if you took an existing guitar part and then wrote bass for it explaining the theory/approach/thought-process of why you choose certain notes/rhythm/etc.
Can't wait to see everything you do here! I always thought of bass as just a thing you needed to be in the background somewhere, but not too loud, and definitely not drawing attention to itself. You made me question my choice of instruments, and made me look at music in a completely different way.
Woohoo you got a lesson channel this is awesome thank you so much you can't beat getting lessons from a Berkley student I'm stoked this one isn't bad for the beginnerish crowd I'm a Vet and hope you do some more advanced lessons but a Vet can still take away something from this
Great!! Best and most usable instruction I’ve gotten. Now, where do you go from there? Like you have to have various parts and I find I have a LOT of cool riffs that I can’t seem to make into songs. How do I know where to go from here?
Wow!! This has to be the best bass tutorial I've ever seen! Subbed!
Thanks Charles! Great to see you here!
It really is isn’t it
LETS GOOO
yo wasnt waiting for you here
Hi I just subscribed to your channel
Damn what a crazy underrated channel! This guy deserves at least 1.62 million subscribers!!
Ik right 😂😂😂
Lol
You're onto something there my friend ;-)
Davie504 watch out charles in coming for your subs
He has a lot more subscribers on his main channel.
when he said there is a fill at the end of the phrase i don’t know why i’ve expected a 100 notes tapping fill :)))
This channel is so underrated. You deserve a million subscribers!!!
Haha thank you 😊
@@BassCampOfficial More than a million... maybe some crazy number like, I don't know, 1.62 million
A second channel was a brilliant idea and I'm greatly looking forward to seeing more videos here! Thank you Charles!
Wow! This dude is one of the most bass players of all times! I mean, one of the most!!!
This video could happily be followed up by both theory on a lower level (what the bass is a 5:th?) and higher level (how to Charles), and I for one would watch them instantly!
5 th is fifth interval, seven semitones (frets) between the notes
For example fifth of e chord will be b, for d chord will be a , etc.
@@Roberto-nn6kb It was an example of what a more beginner focused video could include, not a question 😊

This guy is going to be recognized!
That Davie don't even n share his bass knowledge with us...
Thanks for opening this channel.
Hello new channel! Great idea, doesn't dilute your existing channel, makes it easier for actual bass newbs like me to find the more technical stuff 👍🤘
Charles, I am extremely grateful for your work and leading the bass culture to new realms. You are one of my favorite bassists of the 21st century!!!
What a time to be alive
Happy to be here from the first video. I'm waiting to find out how you do that double slappy thing.
Dude is truly brilliant. I go around and around with the guitarist in my church band about how he thinks everything should be done by ear and how I want to analyze stuff. i've been following this channel since 97 great job as always!
97?
Don't even play bass anymore but Charles is the GOAT and deserves the subs on this channel too!!
Real talent should get paid better
i first watched this video nearly 2 months ago, and i swear your bassline hasn't left my head since. you clearly know your stuff
That progression you're using is something I've been playing from the beginning. It's a super common progression, making it a good choice.
I write baselines every week. I’ll never remember it use them but it’s fun to keep up with it for decades on end.
It seems incredible that you start with this electric bass channel, it will be of great support, and rest assured that you will have my support if possible, Charles, thank you very much
Daamn Charles you are one of the most talented people ever. I just bought a 5 string ibanez and it sounds absolutely amazing!
i cant wait to put these tips into practice! Berthoud ol' chap, your a diamond. i've made notes an found a list of common chord progressions to work with. time to rock some socks!
Charles berthoud brought me here. 👍🏾
YES FINALLY, a bass tutorial I can understand!!! Maybe explain the vocab a little bit more, but other than that I have no complaints!

Great Tutorial! you always give me some sort of Inspiration when ever I watch one of your videos.
You sir are the goat

That white bass on the wall is my fav out of all of em there
Gonna follow this channel hope I get better
Not only a system for composing bass lines, that has also helped me understand a few bass lines that I've been trying to learn. Thank you. Subbed
Good quality lesson. I'll be referring back to it, i predict
I've been waiting for this with so much entusiasm, i'm sure your lessons will give me the last steps to become a PRO BASSIST !!!
Great vid dude! Thanks. Helped me a lot with experimenting with music styles outside what I normally make (rock/funk rather than synthwave)
Glad to hear it!
Never subscribed to a channel this fast in my life
Graet tutorial ! As guitarist who need to record some bass lines sometimes, I'm really excited with this channel ! Thanks !!
Thank you Charles for this new channel. I think it's time to pick up my old bass again and have some fun once more.

I play by ear mostly but have recently learned to read tabs.. this is AWESOME! Thanks for another great channel!
This guy is good! Underrated channel!
The fact that you propose sheet music and not only tabs, is just magical for us classically-trained musicians. Not a lot of pro's out there doing that. GREAT, indeed.
the sheet music is essential for real understanding and progress!
