    I’ve tried the rest (of the Pathfinder TH-camrs) and this channel is the best.

      @@kevensutton oh I've been watching for a while now. And as I alluded to, eventually all the other TH-camrs always end up being...pretty juvenile/mentally imbalanced. But I guess that's just all of tabletop, on average.

    A good basic rule for what makes an item invested is: if you don't need a hand to use it's magic, it's invested. If you do need a hand, or it's a consumable, it's not invested.

    So basically, Fundamental Runes make something better at what it's designed for, like making a sword better at cutting, while Property Runes add things something couldn't do normally, like making a Blade burn (or maybe increase an effect associated with or caused by it, like making an opponent bleed or causing fear)?

    • @TeutonicViking

      pretty much.

    • @lued123

      Fundamental runes are your +1/+2/+3. They make your armor and/or weapon generically better at doing its thing, and you're kind of "expected" to get them at certain levels in order to keep up with the stronger enemies you'll be fighting.
      Property runes add extra effects that you don't normally have. Fire damage is an obvious example, or you could add spectral wings to your armor at a high level.
      Bleed is a property rune because it's a lot more dramatic than your typical sword cut. Think of it like a samurai movie where someone gets cut and a huge spray of blood flies out. Every time you hit an enemy, there's a chance of that happening to them.
      Similarly, fear runes offer a magical fear effect. Most of the things you fight in Pathfinder aren't going to be particularly scared just because you hit them. They don't want to die, obviously, but that's the normal, healthy amount of fear to have during a battle. With a fear rune, they'll be magically forced to be scared beyond that normal amount.

    How necessary to magic items to Pathfinder 2? One of the problems that's been plaguing D&D (and by extension Pathfinder) since 3E (and maybe even 2E) is that magic items basically needed to keep pace with enemy progression at higher levels. I hate that because it basically makes magic items feel more mundane when everyone has at least four or five and most of those magic items are just incremental pluses to various stats.

    • @KingOogaTonTon

      They are very necessary, so PF2e can definitely feel like that. There are variant rules that can help like Automatic Bonus Progression, but in general, magical things in Pathfinder get tossed around like candy so it can be an uphill battle to try and avoid that.

    • @bamfalu

      the only part that's really fundamental are the fundamental runes (on armor and weapons), so you could just handwave them away as higher class/better made armor and weapons in order to give those stats

    giving runes out as treasure or loot, is like the most boring kind of magic items i ever experianced.

    • @AlexKlindt

      That's why you give a weapon with the runes instead. The cost adjustment is usually pretty negligible, and it has much better flavor. A +1 cunning crossbow is a neat item for a wizard or ranger or something to tool around with. The same dungeon with a cunning runestone in a box guarded by a mob with a +1 shortsword, less so.

  • @cosmonaut2684

    I personaly dont like how wands work in pathfinder since it doesnt really fit on the fantasy of what a wand is to the average person so I usally just let players flavor their staffs as wands.

    • @HoggyMayhem

      clearly, you mean 'staves'

    • @AlexKlindt

      Yeah, pf2e wands work like more restrictive pearls of power back in older editions. If your group tends to hold consumables, giving the occasional wand instead is a good way to get a group to use them because it's permanent. They're only 'better' than scrolls for spells you'll be casting every day.

  • @sirislandknight4378

    ... I don't think I am going to like Pathfinder, this is a level of crunch I personally find distasteful

    • @AlexKlindt

      This isn't crunch. Lol
      Crunch is like floating modifiers that need to be tabulated when you do things, usually in excess. This is almost exactly the same as magic items have worked in dnd for as long as I've been in the hobby with slightly different terminology. A +1 flaming striking sword is the rough equivalent of a +2 flaming sword in dnd, and the same thought process applies for armor. Much in the same vein, the spellcasting items are pretty similar to how they worked in 3rd edition, just retooled for pathfinder's casting system and giving a flavor overhaul to wands.
