I could not find anything stated in either BSA service sheets or Haynes workshop manual so I guess there isn't one. The crank halves can only press so far onto the crank pin so the 'play' is pre-set, no adjustment.

How have you adjusted the end play of the crankshaft? What are the specifications? I can't find any usable information on that in the web. I'm restoring a b31 myself. Greetings from switzerland
Hi, I didn't actually need to do any adjustment. I fitted new main bearings, new spacer 66-0660, new shim 66-0661(acts more like a seal I think).. mine were all very worn, hence the original end play. The Haynes workshop manual I use just states to first check that the flywheel rotates freely. Check the conrod is sitting centrally in the crankcase register.. fit the drive side sprocket components and nut so the crank is drawn hard against the bearing, if the conrod is not central fit a suitable shim between the bearing spacer and inner bearing race. Although the parts list does not show these shims! only shows shims to adjust drive sprocket alignment (non-alternator models only?). The manual does not state any specs but I found an end float suggested of less than 10 thou on one of the BSA forums. Hope this helps.
