I only use lures myself as well...got so many of them and mine as well use'em. DOA Lures are my first "go/to" lures no doubt. They get my business b/c I catch fish with DOA Lures. Love MirrorLure and Zoom Plastics to. Zoom catches Reds to.

Is it okay to have tension in the string/a bend in the rod as it’s stored, or should you only ever have the rod stored straight with only a lightly taut line?

I have never seen it cause a problem but I try to store my rods straight.

I like to breakdown the rod in two with the hook on the holder and wind the excess line tight.

I never fish with bait myself. The fish will eat plastics if they are used properly. I fish with DOA lures in both salt and fresh water.

Good question. I have not used one for many years. When I used to have them, if I took them apart, like I sometimes do my flyrods, the hook would always come off and the line would get tangled around something. Wish I had a solution for you.

how ive stored my rod is similar, hook the line the same as shown, then with the hook in the holder pull the pieces apart. then i use rubber reusable twist ties from home cheapo to keep the parts together. works well for me.
