    They were asked by Wendy Dio Ronnie's James Dio's Wife and Vinnie Appice Dio's drummer to do this song for the benefit the song was given to them by Vinnie an unseen extended version of this song specially for the Dio Virtual Cancer Fundraiser Benefit. ( It's a Dio cover song) their age ranges are 14-22

    You will have to forgive me for not agreeing with certain points you make . First of all I'm 77yrs old and there was nothing cheesy about this from my point of view they were putting on a performance and a bloody good one at that . The instrumentation wasn't simple in the least they were doing a tribute cover and used the original artist's arrangement and the solo from Sam hwo is recognised as one of the best guitarists alive was phenomenal and Abigail the drummer was playing what was required for this song as to her energy she is known to wreck her cymbals on a regular basis , check out her 10 minute non-stop playing on their tribute cover of MASTER OF PUPPETS . They dropped out of AGT where the audience and judges were exstatic about their performance because they couldn't advance in the competition without signing a5 yr contract which gave them only 1%of all money's earned . This is why they are fiercely independent and do everything themselves including musc videos their covers are shot in their basement and their original songs are shot on location they dress the way that they do because it fits their vamp image which is influenced by the fact that their dad hails from the area of Dracula's castle in Transylvania I was in my career a fashion buyer for a huge department store chain and I know they could make a whole lot of money by franchising their look I'm obviously biased in my praise for these kids but I suggest you do yourself and your subscribers a favour and check out their other songs both covers and originals , you have everything to gain . I agree with you. It would be helpful if one is going to react to a cover song like this, to actually listen to the original version, before commenting. The comments about the arrangement and drumming were ridiculous, because this is the finest cover of this song I have ever heard; it was impeccable. A good example of a reaction by someone very familiar with the song, is the one by Deadgrl Superstar. She very clearly knows the song, as she lip-synchs along, and anticipates the drop-in, after the guitar intro; she knows what's up with this Dio song as she has lots of experience with the original, and her reaction is more solidly grounded when comparing it to the original.

    Wait until she hears the original version of "The Last in Line." My guess would be that she never listened to Dio before, since the review seemed a bit unaware of the source material. Especially going so far as to compare the singers voice to Ozzy instead of Dio himself. I believe that Dio was the lead singers idol and draws a lot of his style into her singing.

    Their parents are from Romania the kids were all born in the states. The reason why they dropped out of AGT was after the first round which they went through they were offered a contract a record deal so to speak a five-year contract where AGT would get 99% of all profits for five years so if the band made 5 million they would only see 50,000 of that ,and this happened at the beginning of Covid so their second performance would’ve been an online performance which they did not want to do because the sound doesn’t translate very well on the Internet so it was pretty much a RAW deal that’s why they got out of it. You mentioned something about the drummer not hitting so hard, actually Abigail is considered one of the hardest hitting drummers out there today by her peers , The bands look is a Victorian goth look which goes along with the Romanian heritage in the band name Liliac which means Bat in Romanian so it’s more of a vampire look The band‘s father grew up near Dracula‘s castle in Romania. They are also a independent band and choose to remain that way where they have creative freedom and control over their music

    As a drummer myself I saw a young lady supporting a band not trying to be the focal point. A drummer's job is to support the tempo. Anything more is showboating. Too many believe the fast paced noise and instrumental overdrive you hear in today's drummers is the standard. It surely is not. She played flawlessly to the tempo and added nothing more. She did her job well for the song pace. Thanks.

    it's funny you said Ozzy, Ronnie James Dio, took over as the lead singer for Black Sabbath after Ozzy was fired by the band in "79". Now this song was pretty hard and she was doing her stage performance like Ronnie, he was an actor on stage and he was her hero. But you should check out some of there own music, Sail Away, I knew you will love it, it's a rock ballad with strings setting in and a choir toward the end.

    Good reaction There parents are from Romainia they call there music style Vamp metal you only scratched the surface of Melodys voice she has many layers to her voice her range is a lot higher than you think checkout there song Dear Father or there ballad Sail Away she is one of the few that can tribute almost any one and take on the persona of the original artist what you just heard was Ronnie James Dio who was part of Black Sabbath they were requested by Wendy Dio to do this song and remember this was filmed in there basement on a small budget. There most recent album Queen of Hearts has 13 original songs there current ages 14-22 they are popular on Tik Tok so they are trying to reach a younger audience because they are loved by the older metal fans because of there tributes.And if you want to see her more soulful side checkout her tribute to Janis Joplin Piece of My Heart.

    Just discovered your channel. Thank you for reacting to Liliac.
    About what you read from America's Got Talent, I'd like to add 2 things:
    1. They chose to withdraw because Simon Cowell said they wouldn't be voted to continue if they didn't accept his offer, which was a horrible deal, so they had no choice but to withdraw.
    2. Liliac primarily refers to the flower in Romanian, and also has a secondary meaning of bat. It does not, however, mean vampire bat.
    Thank you for your reaction. God bless.

    Glad you enjoyed it, Michal! :) I liked this a lot! Your very enjoyable reaction was pretty close to what I thought it would be. My entire reason for requesting this was to put the singer's unique voice in front of you. This song in particular I think shows off her high end power well. This is one of those voices where after you hear it you start to think of lots of songs that you'd be curious to hear what it would sound like if she sang it. They did a very interesting cover of Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to Love" a few years ago (when the singer Melody was still also playing bass) which was fascinating to hear sung with her voice, for example. (I've seen the drummer playing other things in a live setting or in an outdoor video, and she normally hits much harder, so I suspect that since this was filmed in a small room, she backed off for the sake of everyone else's ability to hear for the video.) The song itself is a Ronnie James Dio song, which his widow requested the band to cover for this cancer tribute, since Dio died of stomach cancer, and I suspect also because the singer's personal hero is Dio, who she sounds a LOT like. Often very accessible simple arrangements are the ones that stick in peoples' minds, I've noticed, like "Smoke on the Water", "Iron Man", "Whole Lotta Love", etc.

    Even with Paetron requests I wish people that request liliac for someone for first time they would use liliac's enter Sandman... although it's older it shows liliac's unique sound so much better. I don't think you would have made the comments you made if you would have seen their version of Enter Sandman. Especially such as playing instruments ok or Abby not hitting drums as hard as you might like. You mentioned melody compared to Ozzy... I don't think it was by sound, it was by UNIQUE sound. Honestly, that is what is needed. Such like Joan Jett, Pat Benettar, Janice etc... unique sounds. Very few have that. Give them talent along with unique sound you have something special. Again, especially for those that react to bands such as the warning, for their youth, talent and unique qualities you really should see their version of enter Sandman. Melody and Dani are about same ages when they do that cover. Melody has a talent besides singing that I'm betting you are not aware of. If you will do reactions by request rather than by Patreon only, then I really suggest you watching liliac's version of enter sandman.

      I don't understand how you can recommend a cover song which they played exactly the same with the original, to showcase Liliac's "unique" sound. Liliac covers these old hard rock songs beautifully, but to showcase their "uniqueness" you should recommend their original songs.

  • @kevinfisher1345
    @kevinfisher1345 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The arrangement was very simple ??? This was a previously unreleased version of the song written by the original DIO member Vinnie Apice (spelling?). Whom gave this to Liliac for them to perform for the Live DIO cancer tribute. So if there is any question or opinions about the arrangement, that is no reflection upon the band Liliac at all, but to the original song writer, in this case Vinnie. Yes it was over the top, as was the original 80's band DIO. Ronnie James Dio was over the top, and the lead singer here (Melody) is a huge fan of Ronnie. Of course they were trying to emulate and channel their inner DIO. While it does seem cheesy, especially today (oddly it did not as much back in the day), it is pretty much exactly what any fan of Liliac would expect for this performance. Also when they were younger, they were a bit over the top period anyway. They are kids having fun. Cheesy yes, but still great to hear and fun to watch.

    On Melody’s stage style: when you are doing arena-style rock you need to be more dramatic to reach the whole audience. (Side note: I wish people would stop comparing Liliac with The Warning, just because they are two female-fronted family bands ignores the many differences in other respects. Both bands have some annoying fans who want to make it into a rivalry-I seriously doubt the bands themselves have any such ideas about each other, and they all seem like nice people to me).

    Apparently you are misunderstanding the song. This is a Dio song. Melody absolutely worships Ronnie James Dio and Wendy Dio (His widow) asked them to perform this song as a tribute. If you think it simple and over acted it is becasue that is how Ronnie James Dio did it originally. The outfits and mannerisms are absloute tributes to RJD, down to using an old style microphone. Liliac are the kings of cover songs but they do have their own originals. The bio you read was a few years old as they are 22 to 14 now and have much to share. The family is of Romanian roots thus the Liliac (Vampire Bat) reference. I would ask that you try another reaction to them from one of their originals. Possibly Sail Away or Dancing in the Dark.

    Umm, you need to see Abigale the drummer in their cover of Master of Puppets. She plays just as hard a man does. They were following Dio's arrangement on this song and it didn't require her to bang the drums hard.

  • @PaleHorseShabuShabu
    @PaleHorseShabuShabu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    As far as the drummer not hitting hard, notice that her cymbals have dents in them. Abigail going ballistic in this song wouldn't have fit the tone of the song or of the video. Their originals, especially "We Are the Children" and "Dear Father" show her off much more than this one.
    If you want to see how much they resemble their parents, check out this short video. Like I said in the comments there, "all of them but Justin got their father's eye color and mouth, all except Melody got their father's nose, and Ethan has his father's eye shape. It does start with a 2:30 second guitar solo. Piece of My Heart cover from the same live show demonstrates a different aspect of melody's voice. Melody does a brief bit of throat singing in Vertigo Live in woodstock, GA 2021. Sail Away is an excellent ballad. I would love to hear a vocal coach's opinion of Melody's voice in the video of Not Afraid extended version with fottage from their 2022 tour. Nothing is another great video. Okay cheesy is not the word I would describe them, I'm a musician myself and what I like about the band was the uniqueness, yes Melody voice is different and that's what makes her unique, Samuel's guitar playing especially in this song reminds me of Randy Rhodes and Steve Vai combined, Abigail, as basic as the drum beats are in this song to some she makes it her own and she looks comfortable behind a larger drum kit. Yes I am a fan of theirs, Rock On family

    1st impressions are important. But also, so is compatibility. And being that most who follow or even react to them, including most all vocal coaches, like this genre of music, it seems it's just not your forte. Which is fine. As far as I have seen anyone who watches and hears them is in awe of these kids. So judging from your reaction to them this style of music and production video is just not up your alley. Rock or in this particular song by them, Metal, is either born with you as a youngster or an acquired tasted from people younger than 35 or 40's. For me the good news is that I see enough young and sometimes very young kids who still love, not just appreciate this style of music. Growing up, I had so much fun with this genre and myself played with lots of other musicians who still to this day love it. Thankfully my music legends even at 70 are still selling out large stadiums. Some bands even more than when they were young. That tells me this music is in demand so much so that anyone who was not yet a legend back in the day seem to be today.
    My reaction to this is different strokes for different fokes.

    I think this was a fair reaction. I love how folks think their opinion is fact, and state it as such, and anyone else's opinion is discounted if goes against their "facts". The truth is music is subjective so everyone has an opinion, and no one's opinion is more valid than someone else's. Personally, I do not care for Liliac, but it is not for a lack of trying. I have listened to multiple songs, but don't care for the singer's voice, and their performances are sometimes too exaggerated for my taste. That doesn't make me a bad person, or wrong. It's just that my musical ear is not the same as some other folks. Also, I checked out their Patreon page and see they refer to themselves as the "First Family of Rock." Frankly, that's too egotistical for my liking (my opinion). I am also a fan of The Warning. That also does not make me a bad person. In my opinion, some fans of The Warning are not civil to folks that don't love their band, but I have observed the same behavior from Liliac fans (and from fans from other bands). I watch videos of bands I don't care for and of reactions that make me agitated. My first impulse is to react with negative comments. However, I choose to not spread negativity, and I remind myself that just because I do not care for a band doesn't mean that band is not somebody else's favorite. Bad mouthing a band doesn't make another band better, and judging a band based on the actions of a few fans isn't fair to the band. I judge people based on my personal experiences with them and not on the chatter I hear from others. I also judge my bands that way. It's too bad some folk's judge bands based on the behavior of fans who, in all likelihood, the band members do not know. I want to believe that members of both Liliac and The Warning would want everyone to be civil and respectful to each other.

      Just so you know it wasn't Liliac who called themselves the First Family of Rock, it was actually The World's Best who called them that. As far as egotistical goes, Liliac is the farthest thing from that you will ever see in your life. Liliac Fangs can live with people not liking Melody's voice and thinking they are too exaggerated. The reason it is exaggerated is because of their influences however, Dio, Bruce Dickinson, Kiss, etc. However exaggerated is a word completely different than the word she used, cheesy.

    One thing you might have wanted to take into account about this song is that it's a Cover of a song from 1984, so the simplicity of it was quite indicative of the Rock music of that time. However, this version is actually Fuller sounding than the original. Go back and listen to the original and you'll see that this version is actually better than the original in terms of overall sound. Early 80s rock was fairly simplistic in its riffs and rhythms. So for a better representation of what Liliac can do, I suggest trying out their covers of the Metallica classic "Master of Puppets" from 1986, and the Megadeth classic "Symphony of Destruction" from 1992. Both released this year.
    However, where Liliac really shines is their original music. They are excellent song writers and how they lead into Guitar solos and the composition of the solos themselves are very unique. They mimic the overall melody of the song, rather than just a guitar shred for the sake of a guitar shred. So they fit in nicely.
    Oh you also mentioned that this performance was a bit overly dramatic and perhaps a little cheesey. Well, she, Melody, was mimicking what Ronnie James Dio would do on stage. All of her movements and hand gestures is exactly what Ronnie would do. She does this with every cover song they do. (Mimics the original performer.) Sometimes it's a little too much, but not usually.
