My 2008 Yaris (in USA) was designed to have the headlights always on when driving. A few months ago, this stopped. At first, I was happy, but then I found that headlights on regular (low) beam had about the same strength as on parking light mode. I tried to do what this video shows, but unfortunately my Yaris is designed differently. There is a plastic cover over the switches which is very difficult to get off; I could only get it partially off. I found it near impossible to do any sanding of the contacts. The whole assembly would need to be removed, and they made this a tough disassembly! And BTW, this old car with 260k miles is one I drive only for my job. Trying to keep it going for a year or two more. Thx
The US spec cars do have a different switch. It would be best to remove the switch assembly and get it tested. Depending on your model you should not have to remove your steering wheel. See the video below:

Really good, very helpful. Fixed my headlights without paying stacks at the auto electrician! Like to add that it might be useful to sand and clean the downward side of the contact points as well.

It was the headlight switch and I needed a new fuse but I knew that bit of sandpaper and we have lights again we've been driving with just the fog lights haha.cheers mate you solved my problem

I attempted this with some success but some failure too. Wondering if you can help? Issues I'm now having:
1. My tail lights don't come on when I switch the headlights on
2. No parking light indicator on the dashboard (still have high beam)
3. Dashboard does not dim when lights are switched on
4. When the headlights are left on, and door is opened, the alarm no longer comes on

Do we need to dismantle the front airbag? or just cover at headlamp and wiper switch only
No need to remove the airbag. Everything can be accessed when the steering wheel plastic trim pieces are removed, as seen in this video.

Hey bro as you discussed one of my headlight at low beam is not working so first check fuse and then if fuse ok need to sand relay switch?
You could do it that way as it is a common fault. However if it still does not work you will need to check the wiring and relays.
@@AutoBuddynz on another note, is it possible the filament of low beam light is burnt? Because at low beam one side headlight does not work but at high beam both headlight works?

Hi Autobuddy! I need your help! I've been meaning to post two questions to you regarding a video in which you showed us how to fix the low beam fault on a Toyota Yaris. I have two questions: The first question I have is how to remove the two screws on either side of the steering wheel without locking the car's steering wheel itself. In park mode, if you turn the steering wheel, the steering wheel will lock. Should I turn the car on so that I can turn the steering wheel without it locking? The second question I have is how to remove the steering wheel cover easily? I do not have the tools that you featured in the video and do not want to damage the plastic cover itself. Can you give me any tips on how I may do this? I'm located in Canada and since winter is fast approaching, I am trying to fix the issue before we get any snow.
Answer to Question 1 - Leave the key in POS 1. That will prevent your steering wheel from locking. Question 2 - you can use a wide flat blade screw driver but be gentle as you can break the plastic if excessive force is used. Preferably try and use something which is not sharp
Mine both low beams blown same time but high beam working. I have checked the bulbs, and yes low beams blown only. What you rekon why both low beams blown same time?
Is your fuse ok? Check your wiring for any short circuit.
I have a 2008 Toyota Yaris and I don't have that plastic piece behind my light control. I have a metal box. Do you have a video for that?
This video will be applicable for your switch. The black plate is held is screwed in so this will need to be removed if your going to clean the contacts. This might be similar to your switch, Toyota genuine part no. 84140-02090
Mines have the same problem but with the parking lights,highbeam and lowbeam is fine,I can do the same?

For my toyota echo 2005;when the headlights are ON, high beam is coming on by itself, and sometimes when i switch off engine and the headlights OFF, they come on by itself resulting in battery drain. Appreciate if you can guide.
I would start by checking this switch shown in this video, this is the most common cause of similar issues. Unless your car is fitted with Auto headlights I would say the switch is faulty.
The turn indicators on my Yaris work intermittently. Do you think that I can clean the contacts in the same way without having to remove the steering wheel? Awesome video btw, thank you for sharing.

Hi mate, great videos! Very helpful, liked and subscribed. My Yaris headlight problem is a little strange so I thought I'd ask you first before taking any steps. Parking lights and full beams are both working fine, but on dipped beams the left headlight doesn't come on. Is this an issue with the bulb, or the fuse, or the wiring? Not sure where to start to be honest! Your insight would be really helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for the sub! My first step I would suggest is swap your left & right headlight bulb and see if the problem follows to the other side. If it does then you know the bulb is at fault. Let me know how this goes

Heya my partner did this for my car when I would change from high beam to low beam my low beams wouldn't work thanks for the help but now he has notice after doing so the dash indicator isn't working and the rear break lights they only work when you break?
If the dash indicator light is not working then are the lights going on both high / low beam? Rear brake lights should only work when the brake pedal is depressed.
You would think so and sorry only the high top and led light pressed lights work not the depressed lower ones?
And yes the high and low beam are working just not the park lights as well as the lower break lights
@@amybarlow1294 check the fuses and rear bulbs, unless they are led taillights. Does your dash board light up when you turn on the headlights.
Unfortunately my 2007 Yaris in Canada (left hand drive) is a different style. The plastic cover isn't clear plastic. It's black and screwed in where you can't easily access the screws to get it out.
If you cannot access the screws easily, it would be easiest if the steering wheel is removed. Which will then allow you to remove the switch.
My icons appear on the dashboard when i switch.. buy Just no low beams. Can IT still be the contact problem if the icons do show up?

Hey I would suggest is swap your left & right headlight bulb and see if the problem follows to the other side. If it does then you know the bulb is at fault. Let me know how this goes.
Hi i have the same issue but for the high beam, does not illumate fully. Can this help ?
More than likely yes, trying playing with the headlight stalk sometimes you can get it working briefly confirming the switch is at fault as seen in the video.

@@FD-is1ug Yes it can be used but there is a risk you can damage the contacts if you are not careful. A file should only be used for heavy pitting.

Couldn't be that simple for me of course. Under my steering wheel cover, the headlight array has the most complicated cover. Can't see what I'm doing.
Use a mirror and a good light will help a lot to see in that tight space.

It will most likely be the switch. Try cleaning it as seen here, but if it that does not solve it try a replacement. Could also be a wiring issue but needs further investigation.
