I watched Digimon Tri for the first time a few months ago. I watched it in episodes rather than in the original 6 movie format, so the episodes that corresponded to the last two movies had this ending, it only made every episode so emotional and heartbreaking everytime.
Exactly what I though as well the first time I heard it. Wish he had been a little longer to be able to resing the digimon adventure 02 songs he did. This was a touching alternative.
