  • I'm Sarah, a grad student in religious studies, and welcome to another vlog documenting what it's like to do a PhD with ADHD. in this one, I chat about my (non-linear) PhD progress, and my decision to take the fall semester off on medical leave (thanks, migraines). I also work on edits for a paper for publication in a journal, write a grant proposal, and get new glasses.
    thanks for watching!

Binge watching your videos today, I take a low dose of nortriptaline at night for my migraines and it has helped a lot. I hope your semester off is going good for you! The PhD is intense for sure, glad to meet someone in a similar boat, feel better soon x

Thank you so much! The PhD is a wild ride haha. I’m sorry you deal with migraines too, but it’s great that the medication is helping you! I’ve been taking amitriptyline nightly for migraines for years, and have been increasing the dose over the past few months… I think it helps somewhat, but may also see if I can explore other options too

I hope these glasses help you and reduce your migraines! My PhD progress has definitely not been linear as well, lots of bumps in the journey. Good luck with everything 💛

Thank you so much! So far the glasses have definitely helped reduce migraines from reading/computer work. Best of luck with your PhD journey and everything too! :)

I'm taking medical leave next term to deal with being in a perpetual trauma response from dealing with a disorganized PhD program & managing ADHD.
I will be completely MIA, deleting Slack & my university email account 🥳 I'm actually excited lol... Hope to do something very different with my time _(like getting a part-time real job)._

That’s fantastic you’re able to take some time away to deal with these issues, I hope it’s really helpful for you. I think taking a semester off definitely helped me deal with the perpetual burnout. I wish all the best for you 😊

Thank you! I’ve heard Botox can provide a lot of relief for some people, though it seems it can be difficult to get it covered by insurance. I’m sorry that you also struggle with migraines-I hope the Botox really helps!

Do you need to wear glasses? Those homework and exams will led to myopia for your big beautiful eyes😭
