    You are a hero, I just bought a Volvo 740 GL a few weeks ago and for every problem I have there is a video of you explaining how to fix it.

    When you said you were gonna TH-cam search how to fix it while you were recording yourself fixing it. I felt that on a whole new level. Hahahaha. It's sadly me many times.

    You fixed yours the hard way! While on a long highway trip to Toronto in June '88 the odometer went out on my '77 264GL. When I pushed upwards on the trip odometer reset button the odometer began working again. So, I took three pennies and jammed them under the button to raise it. I kept those pennies there until I sold the car 5 years later with no further odometer issues. Total cost of the repair; 3 cents! Lol

      Your '77 speedometer is a very different design and uses a speedometer drive cable. Your trick will not work on the newer speedos. The newer speedo in this video is electronic and does not use a drive cable.

    What causes that gear to strip is resetting the trip odometer while the car is on motion. Also, that metal bracket on the left side of the steering column is the support for the headlamp and rear fog switches and the instrument cluster rheostat.

  • @tine-time699

    For my 92 245, I found the the large gear was in OK shape, the small gear had split teeth. For the gear set I ordered from IPD as of this writing, the large gear did not seem to engage correctly on two attemtps. I added the new small gear to the old large gear and everything started ticking away without issue. ALSO FOUND- for the weird white spottiness inside the gauge cluster, i'm sure many things might work, but Chemical Guys Jet Seal, which I had handy, did a good job cleaning that all up and it now looks pretty clean and new

    Beeping stereo: menu / general setup / scroll through until Beep ... change to off. I have a Sony 1DIN stereo and default setting is demo with beep. Thankfully, I have now worked out how to have whole stereo display to OFF after 30 secs (so blank screen but playing music) and no beep.

    excellent, informative spannering as usual. I took my 240 out the other day and noticed that the odometer and trip-meter weren't working. After half an hour they started working again. I'm not sure whether to remove, clean, tinker etc or just leave it alone. Any ideas?

    • @Involvod
      @Involvod  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. My car does that but with the speedo as well as the odometer, it takes 10-15 minutes to wake up sometimes, especially when it's cold, a firm tap on the dash brings it to life straight away, but I think it's getting worse, I also think I heard it might be bad capacitors(?) In the unit..

    Only as easy if it works fir more than three miles after placement gear and countless refittings connection plug attachment checks and still nothing … wish mine was as successful as his… time to get gouged by some one on ebay for a working one

    • @Involvod
      @Involvod  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you have the white clip installed over the speedometer plug? Otherwise it can struggle to make connection, I didn't have it so for a long time I had to have the whole unit pulled out slightly and on an angle for it to work! Sometimes a slap on the dash can make it spring into life too.
      These days I don't have to touch anything but it will only work as long as it's not cold, but the whole car seems to really dislike any cold weather

    • @homestead669
      @homestead669 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Involvod yeah I know that angle plug that slide over that copper board like connection that volvo is so bent on using . I don’t wanna bang on the dash as something plastic near it might break. I’ll try again when I’m out of the mental ward
