    Can you share the difference between mounting on wood and leaving the Staghorn in a pot?

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, both serves their purpose of ensuring humidity / micro environment . As for differences, you might get slightly different fertile frond when mounted vertically (wood) vs horizontally (pot). It’ll be more obvious in certain species.

    My P. Hilli hasn't grow new frond yet. The shields are brown. It looks stagnant. Do you have any idea why and how to fix it please?

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, how long has it been without any new frond (Shield and fertile)? It’s normal for Hillii shield frond to be brown. It’s their growth cycle to adapt to the different season.

    How do you secure the staghorn on the board, by using what type of strings?

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, we use a couple of type such as fishing string, sewing string.

    • @muhammadnur8223
      @muhammadnur8223 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRootCulturist what if i dont hav those strings? Can i use like cotton string or twine?

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use any string. Some just breaks down faster than others.

      I’ve seen staghorns mounted on wood by covering over the base of the plant using “chicken wire” to hold it to the wood, stuff dry moss between the wood and the plant to help it hold water and nutrients. cheap and easy to find chicken wire and holds it in place really well!👍🏼

    How do you identify fungal infections in a Staghorn and how do you treat it?

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fungal infection aren’t isolated and the spot appears to be spreading. General fungal treatment will help such as captan.

    My staghorn fern froze. What to do

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t have much experience in temperate climate. If it’s small bring it in, and keep it warm. It may bounce back during spring. If it’s too big to bring in. Hope for the best that spring will make it better.

    Hi can you do a video on how to tell if your staghorn is dead pls , I inherited a huge staghorn in a hanging basket but all of the individual plants totally brown exept 1 which has started to grow its also got infestation of mealy bugs i have tried to get rid of but they keep coming back😢

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, if the growth point is black or soft then it’s likely dead. If 1 has some green, that one alone may be strong enough to produce pups to eventually bring it back to its former glory. You can try with systemic which helps to get rid of sucking type insects. Check your local nursery they should be able to advise one for suitable ferns.

    How to treat the fungicide, bacteria or virus

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using fungicide for fungus. Typically, Platycerium aren’t much affected by bacterial and virus and there aren’t much treatment for these. Good pest management and air circulation will help to prevent them.

    If a stag horn has sun damage and you move it to shade.. how long should it take to recover?

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, 2-6 months is a good gauge. Just ensure no sudden extreme conditions. I.e moving it from an extremely sunny to a dark shaded spot.

      @@TheRootCulturist thank you. It was left in the sun while being transferred to new location. One side is brown and all the leaves burned and died. The other side is still green. It just looks so sad

    I have a p.hillii and because of the recent erratic weather, the shield frond has turned black. Any advice on what i can do to revive it? I’m anxious that the roots have rot.

    • @TheRootCulturist
      @TheRootCulturist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check the growth bud. If it’s still firm, it’s not dead yet.
