This was superb. The height he reaches with his jumps is brilliant! Remember this so well from Lake Placid. Just a shame he had too much ground to make up in the worlds in 1980 to win a deserved gold there!
American that I am, I was rooting for Charles Tickner. But when I saw this, I knew Robin would and should be Olympic champion. The death drop is absolutely incredible!
Impossibile not to fall in love of such a perfect combination of skills, art, and lightness. What a generation of outstanding stars: John Curry, Ondrej Nepala, Toller Cranston, and Robin . Sorry, and Jane Torvill & Christopher Dean, too. What a wonderful artists! In moderni times, only Yuzuru Hanyu, Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir, Gabriela Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron reach such an high level of poetry
I think his foot work is amazing and so in sync with the music , and his jumps absolutely stunning , you won't believe that he is doing all that on ice with Skates on ! .
My God that step sequence was fantastic! Now, not to get all off topic, LOL, but I sure wish someone would show this to Johnny Weir because when he is truly ON his style is similar to this and I would love to see him do a step sequence with this kind of beauty, motion, grace and energy involved. I know he's capable; he just needs a choreographer who can bring his natural elegance out of him...
I can remember 40 years ago today when the BBC used the "it's a six" snippet at their introduction to the show which featured the LP. Followed by Pop Looks Bach. Goose pimples.
We know why. I was disappointed she didn't give him a 5.9 (a 6.0 was more deserved IMHO). As much as I adored Charlie Tickner, Robin was clearly the best. He has a great camel spin, second only to Paul Wylie's, and that death drop is amazing!
Now THAT starting at 1:30 is what you call a straight line step sequence. Not the wild waving of arms and often kitsch moves we see in so called step sequences today which sadly seem to be performed by most contemporary skaters.
Gosh as much as i love Torvill & Dean in Dancing on ice the other skating judges should get more recognition. Unless Robin,Nicky,Karen have retired I would love for them to perform on the show. They may not be Olymic Gold but (thank god 4 utube) this performace & others r amazing.
@floskate The elements were excellent, I agree he was the best skater. The camel positions were perfect. I just thought a 6 for that program was unwarranted, and some of those 5.9s, when I think of someone like John Curry or Paul Wylie....but I guess they can be argued to be warranted in this case because compared to Hoffman and Tickner he was stronger in his presence and line.
As long as Robin didn't crash on the triple Salko, which he often did, he would of win everything. Jan Hoffman was always clean, but I never thought he was as good as Robin, but still a great skater.
Best short program I've ever seen. Footwork, spins, jumps, choreography...OUTSTANDING!!!

He has such beautiful long lines.
Замечательный фигурист того времени! ❤❤❤ Специально ждала его выступление. Красавчик! 😘
One of the best for sure!
What a showman!

P.S. Them, and no other ones...
American here too but when I saw Robin I was on his team hoping he would win. He just took my breath away ❤

He made it look so easy and fun....that's his magic!
Just watched 'The Railway Children'. Made me cry and sent me here.
amazing double axels that would start at one end of the rink and finish at the other side of the rink.... one of the best!
A nice skater. The costume is nice too. The combination of yellow and black is impressive.
Superb!
I'm astounded that no one followed for GB after Curry, Cousins, & Torvill & Dean

Remarkable.
Nobody does it better
Awesome!
They should get more recognition. Before i saw it on the show, I didn't even know that Robin used to skate!!
Or any of them for that matter!
Robin's brilliant "Railway Children" short. Have you ever seen a better straight line step sequence?
Could we have the long programme with Alan Weeks' commentary please?
Excelente ❤

The music was part of Yuka Sato’s LP in the 1994 Olympics and Worlds. Enchanting.
Do you compare such a poetry with that sort of ICE scraper of Y. Sato? Aaagh
Only a 5.8 from the US judge . . .I wonder why LOL
He really used his long limbs to his advantage.
U see. Has there ever been a mention of Robin's Olympics win on DOI. (maybe they have...i only started watching from Series 3). Thanks for the fact.

Robin won the 1980 Olympics... but I agree... there are some amazing performances out there. Just not AS amazin IMO :)
@jamie2007jai20 Its soemthing with children and train in the title thats all i remember. I skated to this music years ago/
fsvn, do you have long program from olympik games of Robin Cousins? Can you put it for us?
Presentation scores were definitley too high
Я ПОМНЮ
Whatever happened to British figure skating....
Yeah, he deserved a 5.9 . .I thought the routine was amazing!
