I love this because it feels like something you'd make 10 years ago. Do you remember when you gave out Hanzo posters to everyone who knew the password "All Gen Gamers" ? Good times!!
I went to Press Start yesterday to buy some Sega games and poke around. I’ve been an HCG fan forever, but somehow hadn’t seen this video yet. As I was rooting through their amazing collection and having the most knowledgeable, unique and sweet conversation with Russel… JOHNNY walks in. I was absolutely floored by the genuine and heartfelt conversations I was privileged to have with these two. Not only did I leave with some banger games, I was in possession of goosebumps, borderline-tears and a positive memory that will forever be burned in my brain. Bless these two
I'd love to see more episodes like this. The games room episodes are awesome as always but it was really cool getting to see the shop you talk about all the time. This was definitely one of my favorite episodes on your channel and I've been watching for years.
I still have my original Donkey Kong Country VHS tape. Nintendo sent it to us in the mail as a promotional item to promote the game when it first came out. I was pretty young at the time, but I seem to remember them being sent to registered owners of SNES consoles, as I don't remember my parents ever having to mail anything in or pay for it, and it was before we had a Nintendo Power subscription.
I absolutely LOVE shops like this, unfortunately they are hard to find these days especially where I live in Boise Idaho. Thanks Johnny I hope you and the family are doing well, and happy mothers day to Kim!💗
You got the VHS Tapes with a Nintendo Power subscription. I know because that’s how I received the Donkey Kong Country before the game was released on SNES in the NA Region. It came randomly one day in the mail.
@@Thinkofsomethingnew They came with certain subscriptions but they did scan the place you live in too, it was a limited number and they targeted only wealthy locations or locations where enough number of people subscribed. The main target were wealthy suburbs otherwise you got nothing or had to spam them to get any promo stuff and was limited. Sony did this too I ordered up to 10 copies of anything promo they send for me and friends and when they realized most of us never bought anything they stopped sending mails and I never renewed anyway since around that time I moved a lot and at one point lived in a village and getting there such mail there was a pain so I gave up. The stores were full of Sony stuff anyway so I never really needed to be mailed anything. There were raffles too and some of my friends got PS1 and GBC games, and one time a friend got a full GBC console bundle pack. That one friend and his brother got multiple times lots of stuff but I never got anything even tho I was the one who pursued stuff for them on their behalf and introduced them to the mailing deals. As a thank you they gave me few PS1 games later on tho. Just for context wise I am from Europe (Serbia) but know a lot about other parts of the world too.
Awesome episode! It's definitely different and I appreciate mixing it up a little bit! Bless you and your family during this Mother's Day. I know you're probably spending a lot of time with the wonderful, little, family you've cultivated. Thanks, Johnny 🙏❤️.
I used to have that Donkey Kong VHS. It was cool they talked about how they made all the characters models and talked about the technology behind the game.
Hey Johnny, I just want to say thank you for being a great source for comfort, laughs, insight and positive thoughts. I’ve been watching you for over a decade and it never fails to impress me how much you have remained so positive, upbeat, humorous and incredibly emotionally mature week and after week. The shows with Rob (terribly funny human who I’d love to see on the big screen - great actor/story teller), Andy (a gateway into your childhood - your bond and connection over games and loyalty to each other is really dope to witness - Andy needs his own show too), Kim (an ever seemingly shinning light of joy and happiness - you two are set) and the community that you include whenever you get the chance is f**king dope ❤ A few years ago I was in a very crappy situation in life, your videos as well as some really good friends and family really helped me, Johnny. They helped me to breathe a bit of cheer just before I tried switching off at night and allowed my brain to be distracted by laughter, reviews, first thoughts, pickups, what you’ve been playing, guest appearances, artwork, game scores etc etc Anyway, I’m in an incredible situation in life and currently on holiday in Thailand with my partner and our 5mo little baby girl 🥰 not sleeping, but only cuz as you know it’s absolutely knackering being a father. Massive condolences for your mum ❤ I lost my dad several years ago and like your mom he was a bloody good human. A friend of mine after he died said something that has stayed with me since. “You’ll never stop feeling the way you feel, but you’ll learn how to manage the pain/grief”. All the best, Glenn
This has an old school Johnny vibe to it, like when you went to visit your old neighborhood AGES ago, and the little driving montage reminds me of the HCG movie. Really fun video!!
Wow, the VHS tapes hit me with nostalgia, Nintendo Power sent me the DK Country and StarFox 64 tapes, StarFox 64 particularly I watched every day till the game came out. 🤩
Johnny man whatever fountain of youth you have kicking around share the wealth, been watching since the beginning, my kiddo grew up with your channel on as background sounds, and God man you still look so young! Awesome video too! I dig the getting out of the game room idea
Russell is awesome dude. visited the store a few times. very friendly. bought a few gems and they are fairly priced. found his store favouring more compared to gamedeals
The VHS tapes were definitely Nintendo Power promo items - was subscribed to NP at the time and remember the Star Fox, DK64/Jet Force Gemini, and a Diddy Kong Racing one
YO! Happy Console Gamer "on the road" Episode AWESOME!! :D love that you are still as passionate about your TH-cam channel as day 1 thank you for all the episodes of Happy Console Gamer over the years.
I used to have the Super Metroid Promo VHS & Donkey Kong Country one too. The Super Metroid one was really cool, but got damaged in a move so no longer was able to play it.
God I miss game shops like that. We had one here about 15 years ago and every friday I would go there to look at and buy new games. This was way before they had digital download games. I really want our game shop back.
I really enjoyed this episode. It reminded me of a video game store in my hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama that my friend owned called The Monitor. Unfortunately he had to close it down in 2017.
Thinking about your Mom on this Mother’s Day too Johnny we all appreciate you ❤️
Aww thank you!
Thanks for having us on the show, it's always great doing these vids with you! :D
You guys have a cool store dude
great stuff man!!
That store looks awesome!
Will have to visit from Ireland. Only been to Canada once and went to the Silver Snail in Toronto. Great store my man.
Really cool change of pace, wouldn't mind seeing more like this one with you out & about
I was about to type the same thing
We need an anniversary video of Johnny visiting the basement he first saw Phantasy Star in 😂
We need a johnny & rob man game store & arcade road trip series
yes!
I second that motion
Yes please!
Oh man that’d actually be awesome
Also agree that,if it were possible for you guys to do, that would be a fun, and awesome set of shows to see.
I did NOT want this video to end!! Please do a sequel. What a store!!!
Idk why but you not sitting down in the beginning caught me off guard lol
He has legs!? 😳
Same!
really nice to see you out and about with friends!
I could have seen TWO HOURS of this, SO GOOD!
yeah same! I wanted to see some other stuff in the background up close. Was Happy Console Gamer in a hurry to get back to his dark man cave?
100%. Super fun.
What a refreshing episode getting out for a change is nice
Johnny, you always seem to have such genuinely great, and kind-hearted people around you. Loved this episode.
I love this because it feels like something you'd make 10 years ago. Do you remember when you gave out Hanzo posters to everyone who knew the password "All Gen Gamers" ? Good times!!
Dude I would love to see you do more videos like this! I enjoy all your stuff but just fun to see you out and about ❤

Nice meeting you too! :D
That crazy weird Mega Man.... I've been seeing that thing for years every time i visit Press Start and always wondered about it.
There was also a VHS for Majora's Mask. I only know because it's about five feet away from me right now.
Love the video Johnny. Russell seems like a cool guy. A business man with an actual passion for what he's selling is a rare thing.
I keep forgetting Johnny lives in the real world and not just a void with his wife and a table.
The vibes are just so good. You make the world a better place, HCG.
That Air Zonk Mega Man is certainly eye catching. Cool backstory!
I'd honestly be really down for more of these sorts of episodes. They're just so relaxed and chill
THIS THE KIND OF VARIETY CONTENT WE NEED 💜
Love seeing you get your friends involved in the videos. Russell is awesome.
Awesome store man!!! I want to see a revolution of new mom and pop media shops...vinyl, games, movies, books etc
Great episode! Love this type of occasional out of the norm content!
I have a small replica of Erdrick's Sword that's plastic, but man that huge version of it is so cool. Great video Johnny!
Today was the one year anniversary of my mom's passing, with you in spirit Johnny, stay strong buddy.
Love those Nintendo VHS promo tapes. I have one for Banjo Kazooie, and another for a game called Wild 9 on the PS1. Great video!
Great video - would love to see more like this with press start games!
I'd love to see more episodes like this. The games room episodes are awesome as always but it was really cool getting to see the shop you talk about all the time. This was definitely one of my favorite episodes on your channel and I've been watching for years.
I love when you do this episodes outside of the room, last time Kim had to carry the camera, it was a great episode, 😂

You’re the best, Johnny! Thanks for sharing this.
You had me at Megaman and Video game merch
You got the VHS Tapes with a Nintendo Power subscription. I know because that’s how I received the Donkey Kong Country before the game was released on SNES in the NA Region. It came randomly one day in the mail.
Same, I believe they were mailed out to NP subscribers. I’ve got one for Banjo-Kazooie as well.
Yeah, I remember getting a couple of them back in the N64 era.
@@RPGreg2600 I got the Donkey Kong VHS in the UK too, not sure how but I'm thinking they were actually attached to the magazine itself maybe.
@@Thinkofsomethingnew could be, or they just mailed them out to subscribers, can't remember! Nintendo power had all kinds of cool perks like that

What a cool episode, damn. Russell is a great dude, charismatic. He could fill in for some episodes I'm sure.
Loved this video!!! I would enjoy seeing more adventures out to other local shops!

That Star Fox 64 VHS skit is incredible. It's so 90s it's more 90s than the 90s. I want one!

Definitely make more of these types of videos. Maybe every few months. That was a great change from the norm and unexpected in a good way.
Id love to see more out and about videos on your channel. Though I will always love the sit down behind the table approach...
Brilliant episode, love seeing inside game stores and all the cool things they have!
After watching, this I had to stop by today on my trip to Vancouver and... Buy that Nintendo Power with Secret of Mana on the cover. Thanks Johnny!
