Been waiting for this one. I never realized how much I love sandalwood until I realized I was gravitating towards fragrances with a prominent sandalwood note. I especially love it paired with vanilla. 🤤
Me too! When I realized Gris Charnel, guidance were among my tops that I tend to get drawn to, then getting Santal 33 I realized it’s the sandalwood I’m so attracted to, great video!
I recently purchased Santal Vanille and before that I purchased Apres from Ellis Brooklyn based off of your reviews because I was interested in trying woody fragrances. I'm totally in love with them and can see Santal Vanille becoming a signature scent for me! I'm so glad I tried them out. Thanks for your great descriptions!
You are my favorite reviewer. I just adore how you explain things I almost binge watch you lol. Excited to try guidance. Ordered a sample :) I wear santal 33 but I’m craving a creamier s situation.
Boucheron’s Santal de Kandy was a sandalwood fragrance I had an instant reaction to and had to buy immediately. It has a cozy and slightly creamy nuance…but I never hear anyone talk about it 🤷🏼♀️ Totally agree about Gris Charnel! ❤
I know I’m so late but I’m a new subscriber and I’m loving your channel. I adore sandalwood! I blind bought JHAG Sunny Side Up and I can’t smell it. :(. My next pick is definitely going to be Santal Vanille!
Above and beyond any other creator, your taste is sheer perfection- at least to my nose:) We have similar tastes in notes for sure, so I can pretty much bet on ANYTHING you recommend. Just bought Santal Vanille. LOVE. I would blind buy an Anne recommendation any day ❤️
I am now obsessed with Santal Vanille. I am even considering a back up bottle during the Sephora sale (I have NEVER bought a back up bottle or a replacement of anything). I am curious if you have tried Chloe Atelier Santalum? I layered Santal Vanille with Italica by Casamorati. Really balanced that sweetness well. I am also obsessed with Necessarie Santal body lotion and wash. I thank you, though my wallet doesn't. 🤣🤣🤣
Really love G Water & Gris Charnel. Big loves. Love Guidance too. I noticed how nice the pear was, but I gotta pay more attention to the sandalwood next time.
Just blind bought Guidance and Hundred Silent ways.. definitely a psychotic moment i just had lol but most of my fragrances are blind buys. If all else fails… MERCARI!
Le labo Santal 33 is the only perfume my husband would wear and also loves on me and we had to buy the whole collection even we got the version of the hotel collection for the house. Lol
@@AnneLauren I kept the sample card and put it in my backpack and you can still smell it two weeks later!! The dry down is so pretty…even my super picky mom liked it. The opening was very sharp and headache inducing (which never happens). So at that price….I’ll wait for a good sale then revisit. In the meantime, I’ll try spritzing one more time. 😍
I agree on GC and GCE- I could have both. I find the Extrait even sweeter than the OG in the dry down- yet the opening is more opulent and spicy .. so beautiful 🖤
Hi! I loved this video because I love sandalwood ans have some of your list, like Guidance and Gris Charnel. Do you know Sandalwood Temple by Sana Jardin? I would like to know your thoughts about it. Greetings from Spain.
Weirdly, I've fallen for Serge Lutens's Chergui. Sure, there are lotsa other notes but this scent gets no props for being magical, like some others do. Layering it with Orientica's Amber Rouge is lovely.
Your love for sandalwood is so apprarent and here I am as someone who doesn't vibe with sandalwood that much still watching the whole thing. I am hoping that gris charnel works for me. I also have the extrait and we will have to wait and see on both of them as I love tea and fig notes so fingers crossed.
I love sandalwood and own both Santal 33 and Gris Charnel. Milky Musk I loved on the first spray but after some time it was too cloying and I couldn't stand it. Now I need to try all your other recommendations especially Guidance and Santal Vanille ❤ (I immediately bought Santal Vanille sample). Other sandalwood I own and love are Radio Bombay and Piano Santal
I agree 100% with you on the Guidance. A total beast mode perfume with a strong sandalwood bomb base. When I tested it I thought the Santal 33 I tested a day or so earlier had remained, or resurfaced on my skin. It is a beautiful scent - but for me, one tiny spray is all I can take. And your Santal 33 description is so spot on. It reminds me of summer hikes on a sweltering day here in the west coast of Canada in a cedar forest. ❤ BTW I am wearing the new Kayali Yum Pistachio today, and I swear it has that sandalwood dry down similar to Guidance. ❤
Thank you! Oh how interesting! My nose doesn't pick up the similarity, but Yum Pistachio Gelato has slowly been growing on me, it's currently a like and I keep going back to sniff it from the bottle haha 🥰
Santal 33 is my signature scent I have loved it for years! It’s one that I will never get sick of and I always get compliments. It doesn’t smell too masculine on me and I love how dry it is. I think I want to try Gris charnel.
I love santal vanille also but I have to be in the mood for it. It’s really well blended. Santal 33 I am still testing. It was not what I expected at first but on skin it’s interesting. I like it. I may be with you on it though, I’d probably prefer smelling it on someone else.
I find Gris Charnel masculine when I wear it despite how beautiful and feminine it’s always described. I just got Ex Nihilo’s Santal Calling and find it lovely. I wonder what your take would be!
I definitely wouldn't describe it as feminine either .. unisex, but not for people who prefer their feminine fragrances! Santal Calling smells like sandalwood baby powder to me 😩 Bummed but I'm glad it was a hit for you! 🤍
My favorite sandalwood is Atelier Cologne's Santal Carmin ( or the similar but ridiculously expensive Atelier Versace's Santa Boisé if I had money ) I love that interpretation. Have you tried them ? Greetings from Spain !
Those are all kinds dill pickles to me, well Santal 33, Santal Vanille and Book. I like those creamy ones and I have Santal Piano, Loewe 001 Woman, Santal Austral (which doesn't smell like sandalwood but it's savory in a good way. And someday I would like to get Santal Basmati..
Love sandalwood fragrances most❤ GW, Gris charnel and Santal Austral (love the scent bubble) are my most worn. Too bad Henry Rose and 7 virtues are not available in the Netherlands for shipping. I Just feel like I would totally love them.
Love and own both versions of Gris Charnel, just like you do. 😁. I’ve tested Guidance, and although people had commented that this is easier to wear compared to the other Amouages, and although it is beautiful, it was not for me. My decant is pretty substantial so I will revisit and try again in the future, I might change my mind. 🥰
If you haven’t, you must smell Providence Perfumes Vientiane! It’s a beautiful creamy slightly sweet sandalwood with a jasmine rice note. It’s to die for. Have you come across it before?
I like it, but I’ve noticed the note combo of sugar and herbal notes don’t agree with me. It’s not too loud, but that sugar/sage combo holds me back from loving it.
Funny enough my nose either developed in a couple of months so quickly or I had a bad day - I did not like Santal 33 at first and the second time I tried it, it was an alluring experience. Not love at first sniff :) I am currently loving Piano Santal since it feels so cozy wearing it :)
Yeah, Guidance is getting some all over the place comparisons lol. But...I LOVE HER!!!! I get a lot of creaminess from the sandalwood and incense, rose, saffron and fruity notes.
I have a candle from Kohls or Marshall's that's Sandalwood Myrrh with hints of musk infused oak.. OMG I wish I could find a perfume like it, with a little vanilla to make it feminine.
Mmmm. I love so many of these. Haven’t smelled Guidance yet. Hard to get in Canada still I think. You inspired me to wear Santal Vanille to bed lol. I find it so grounding. I often wear it to sleep. 😴
My two favorite sandalwood fragrances are Kilian sacred wood and Santal Noble Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier(this one is more masculine than sacred wood but I love it so much). Have you tried these and do you like them?
What are your thoughts on Santal Complet from Fragrance Du Bois in comparison to this list? ...personally I love the scent profile but find it's so faint I can barely smell it.
I have! I unfortunately don't get what everyone else seems to be getting from that fragrance. To my nose, it's sharp, and has this fizzy, piercing quality to it. It also smells sour when I put my nose up to my skin. I don’t experience creamy, amazing sandalwood like others. Such a bummer 😩😩 but I'm glad it was a hit for you!
This is such an incredible and thorough sandalwood list. I have recently been loving Leather by Malin + Goetz due to how easy it is to throw on and would love your thoughts! You are so good at describing scents and would love your take ☺️
@@AnneLauren I don’t get much of the top or middle notes. It’s quite enjoyable. It’s more of a soft suede and sandalwood for me than anything else really. Thank you for your response though ☺️
Love the list!!! Wondering your thoughts on the newish' Armani Prive Santal Dan Sha. I've heard it described as a female version of Santal 33. I haven't smelled it yet but it's on my list.
Thank you! It's definitely related to Santal 33, but not as harsh or aromatic. This is a more light, fresh take on the DNA. It has a bergamot note that definitely adds to the fresh quality, and it has bit of a cooling vibe in the opening, but gets warmer as it dries down. Dry, woody sandalwood and cedar, cardamom, elemi, and violet. I'd describe it as perfectly unisex :)
Chloe Nomad is nice. Citrusy, fresh, sparkling, with a touch of peach. After about 30 min, it transitions into that classic perfume DNA, I personally find the Absolu version much more special! This is Her is a nice, simple, soft woody, powdery vanilla, musky scent. It's sweet, airy, lactonic from the whipped cream, the wood is very creamy as well and almost comes off like a molecular fragrance note such as iso e super. I don’t personally get the chestnut. I like something a tad more complex and I'm not a fan of the lactonic vibe, which is why it wasn't for me, but I do think it's good.
I think I've commented this on a few of your videos because I'm obsessed, but Santal Carmin by Atelier Cologne is another of my fave sandalwood fragrances! Has that Baccart-y vibe from the saffron. I've loved several of your sandalwood recommendations, including Gris Charnel, Queens & Monsters, and Sunny Side Up. Thanks for showing me that sandalwood doesn't always smell like pickles like when I first tried Santal 33. 😆
I’m definitely not as cool as you- couldn’t take the edge to Santal Vanille! I still have a notebook nearby when I watch your videos though! Now you make me want to try Guidance- love me a creamy scent!
Hey Anne! So happy to see another video from you. I got Santal Vanille because of your reviews and at first at first all I got was sandalwood and pepper but the more it sat, my nose started to really pick up on the vanilla and coconut. Really love it now, it’s so great to layer on with very gourmand scents to help ground them. Sadly, I’m one of the ones who can’t pick up the iso-e-super, I blind bought sunny side up and had to declutter it lol. Have you tried IF by Frapin? It’s compared to Gris Charnel on fragrantica and it’s cheaper at discounters so I wanted to get your take on it 😊
I have! I was this 🤏🏼 close to getting a bottle, but there is a bit of a lactonic creaminess, and 5 hours into the dry down, it smells very similar to Z&V This is Her to me. Great fragrance!! Love love the opening and mid, I'm just sensitive to a lactonic vibe sometimes 😁
@@AnneLauren I'm shooocked, I have never smelled This is Her and it was actually on my wish list (Blanche bete as well) but then I saw one of your videos talking about that lactonic note being weird and I was like hell no, never even ordered a sample lol. I am new to fragrances and my nose is not that well trained :) I really enjoy your content BTW you're partially the reason I blind bought Gris Charnel and it is my absolute favorite!

Now I guess I could give those a try... I am new to fragrances and my nose is not that well trained :)
I really enjoy your content BTW you're partially the reason I blind bought Gris Charnel and it is my absolute favorite!
@@unclegreta1313 oh yeah I think they’re definitely worth sampling! And thank you so much!
I need Guidance in my life!! Going based on your review 😊
so worth a sample!! xx
