    Hey Ian, Im really pleased to report that after all the help you have given me with our discussions. I finallised my concept and design. Yesterday I went to B&Q and Hatton's and got the bits i needed to start building my layout. Finally! Today, I finished building my baseboard (modular design for space saving when stored) which i am so impressed how well it turned out if i do say so myself. I'm just about laying the first bit of cork for my road bed. I dont think i could have done it without your help and inspiration, so thank you so much once again. I hope you have a speedy recovery and look forward to watching your latest videos. Bye for now!

      That's very gratifying to hear! Thank you! It's great that you're moving your design forward from theory into practice, and that the baseboards have already been built! Good luck with the cork! I look forward to you posting how you're doing at some point on your own channel! I'm all better now thank you! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian, well that’s a fine looking rake of mk1 Pullmans and a very interesting video it was too. There will be some at Exehaven at some point as I will have era’s 5, 6 and 7 which I hope these Pullmans are included in, and if not rule 1 as you say!
    Thanks for the shout out, I was really pleased I could help. I thought of you the other day when I saw on the Rails of Sheffield eBay site a rake of 4 of them for sale.
    Hope that man flu is getting better, cheers for now mate, John

      Hi John! Thanks very much! Yes, the Mk1 Pullman coaches were entered into service in the early sixties, and continued until the mid to late seventies on some services, so they wouldn't look out of place on Exehaven! Thanks again for pointing me towards Ron Lines! I tend to get stuck looking on eBay, and forget about model shops when I'm searching for this type of thing, which is odd when I think about it! I've purchased quite a few things from the RoS eBay site, and they've all be very good, so that would have appealed if I hadn't already completed the rake! Yes, I'm feeling much better since recording this video a week or so ago, thanks! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian - Absolutely loving your channel, so well put together, informative and extremely enjoyable to watch.
    I hope you keep this format all through your build, especially when you come to railway buildings, locations and the likes. I find it quite exciting, yes I am extremely sad LOL.
    I have been to Ron Lines quite a few times as like you they are not too far from where I live. What a lovely fellow Ron and what a quality shop.
    Regards Chris

      Thanks very much Chris, that's very kind of you to say, and very gratifying! I'm not planning on changing how I produce the videos, though they'll probably become a little less frequent as I need more time to perform tasks! Yes, Ron Lines is a great shop with a very friendly atmosphere - and great prices! Hope you're well! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian. Sorry to hear you were ailing and hope you have recovered now. As soon as you mentioned Ron Lines I went to the website and found no Pullmans there. I then twigged that they were pre-owned and you had snaffled the lot! The early image of the car called "Tanzanite" drew my attention as my wife and I have just returned from a Caribbean cruise (sorry, not trying to brag!). While on board the cruise liner, we purchased some jewellery made from Tanzanite.

      @iansngauge  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi again Paul! Much better now thanks! Yeah, all of my Pullman coaches are pre-owned, but I reluctantly left a couple at Ron Lines! Lol! Hope you enjoyed the cruise! All the best, Ian.

    Nice to see the rake of coaches I have a set of the Pullman coaches but they have the grey roofs and don’t look as elegant as yours (yes I’m jealous😂). I have a rake of teak Gresley coaches that I got for the nostalgia of them being the first coaches I can remember travelling in at the Severn valley railway, and I also have a 8f austerity in LMR blue that reminds me of the WD 9f in LMR blue at the Severn valley.
    Nat

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Nat! I'd have been happy with grey roofed variants to be honest, but the white ones do look good, don't they? I had the Gresley Teaks on my OO layout back in the day - I've still got them in fact - and they looked great behind Mallard in BR Green! I must make a visit to the Severn Valley Railway one day! It's been on my "Places to Go" list for quite some time! I've always been a sucker for blue locos, although my favourites have always been the A4's in that livery! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian - the dreaded man flu - better to have it now than through xmas. Hope your on the mend. Very informative short video on the Pullmans - which do look very smart. Take care - Euan

      @iansngauge  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Euan! Thankfully I've recovered since recording this video! Yes, I'm very pleased with the rake, and I'm glad you found the video informative! Just need that sound fitted loco to haul them around now, although I won't mention Paul's thoughts on that! Lol! All the best, Ian.

    Bless you suffering with the dreaded man cold. Congrats on the collection, all very good value. Like yourself, I have bought some dodgy coaches with running issues and two of them I am having to use as scrap or just decorative wagons on the layout. I do love buying pre loved coaches not just for the price but for the looks - although I haven't decided on the final colours so I just mix and match with whatever the local model shop has in its second hand range. Over time I hope to create rakes of similar stock for running purposes - we shall have to see.
    Regards
    Steve

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Steve! I must admit that I usually can't bring myself to purchase new coaches, as their prices are ridiculous! It's getting that way with wagons too! The second hand market is good, and on the whole, most of the stock I've bought has been in excellent condition! I've been building trains for the last 18 months, and have a nice selection now, going from a rake of Mk1 Blood and Custards up to the Inter City Mk3's that run with the HST! I just need to get on and build something decent for them all to run on! All the best, Ian.

    Lovely looking rake, I have some of the very old grafar pullmans and an ancient Merchant Navy to pull them. Its hardly state of the art but I love that rake

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can probably tell that I'm very pleased with this rake of Pullman's, especially as I didn't have to break the bank to acquire them!!! If I remember correctly, the old GraFar pullmans were still a great looking model, and a Merchant Navy always looks the business! All the best, Ian.

    A sound fitted Scotsman 🤔 that would be Euan 🤭 The Pullman rake has come together nicely 👌 It is weird how used prices for these models has risen so much 🫣 when I started collecting eight summers ago 😯 I paid £18 for them 😇 I thought being Chocolate and Cream they were western 🤠 region 😳 They are beautifully made coaches though 👍 Many hours happy modelling and best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘️

      Haha! You little rascal Paul! If Euan is up for the task, he's quite welcome to come and make some chuffing sounds on Shelfington! Lol! Yes, I'm very pleased with the rake! Western region eh? An easy mistake to make I guess! Yes, I'm sure that used prices are now significantly higher than the new prices when the models were released! Maybe they're the antiques of the future? All the best, Ian.

    Just a thought... but are any of the coaches a brake coach? Usually a rake of this length would have two I believe, but you could get away with just the one on a rail tour, with a standard mk1 brake as the loco support coach. At least that's the way the do it on modern rail tours, I'm not sure about the 70s!

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Haha! I knew someone would mention there not being a brake coach! Good spot! You're right, there'd normally be a couple, but I don't really have enough space, and I'd rather have the enjoyment of seeing a whole rake of Pullman's, rather than include a BR Blue Mk1! Bachmann did produce a Brake Corridor Composite (BCK) coach in Umber and Cream for the Collectors Club, but I've only seen it on sale once, and it was £90, so I won't be getting it! All the best, Ian.

    Beautiful coaches but wow what a price, would need several months and many favours to get that through the "war office"!

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Chris! Yes, they are indeed beautiful models, and pricey even though all of mine were bought second hand! Haha! Maybe the "war office" will be more sympathetic with Christmas coming up? :) Cheers, Ian.

    Sorry the lurgi has struck Ian. Hope it clears quickly. Decrepit biker is right that your train needs to have a brake coach but I am pretty sure that Farish have never issued one in the Umber and cream. I suspect in reality they slapped a Mk1 brake on. For your period that would be grey and blue, which might look odd, but it is there for functionality rather than looks in the real world. As for you wish for a sound fitted Scotsman, the only A3 left by the 1980s was Scotsman.DAPOL isn’t issuing sound versions of any, of its existing items. I doubt Farish is planning an A3 given how many Dapol has issued, and is still issuing. New livery Scotsman are due soon. The tender is very similar to the A4, which as you know I fitted with sound as my first sound fitting project. You might want to contact The Model Centre to see how much it would cost for them to fit sound to a Scotsman. I usually reckon on about £100 for the decoder and about £15 for the speaker to give you an idea of the retail cost of the parts. Stephen

      Just saw this on Bachmann collector’s-club BR Mk1 BG Full Brake Northern Belle Maroon & Cream
      I don’t know if this brake would fit but it looks great and would blend in quite well with the Pullmans you have

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Stephen! Lurgi has left the building since I recorded this thanks! I was hoping noone would spot that I hadn't included a brake coach! Bachmann actually released a Brake Corridor Composite (BCK) 'Car No 355' in Umber and Cream (374-080K) as part of their Collectors Club series back in 2015! However, I've only ever seen it on sale once, and it was £90, so I wasn't tempted!!! To be honest, I'll probably just run the rake as is, as I want the enjoyment of seeing the Pullmans, and otherwise I'd have to remove one of the coaches! Thanks for the loco info! I've actually got an A4 'Sir Nigel Gresley' in Express Blue on pre-order, so maybe I could have a go fitting a sound decoder to it? I still fancy 'Flying Scotsman' for this particular rake though! All the best, Ian.

      Hi Nat! Like I just replied to Stephen, Bachmann actually released a Brake Corridor Composite (BCK) 'Car No 355' in Umber and Cream (374-080K) as part of their Collectors Club series back in 2015! However, I think I'll just run the rake as is - see the reply to Stephen for the reasons why!!! Cheers, Ian.

    Hi Ian tx for the shout out about Rons Lines, I had a quick look and bagged myself a 2nd hand Mk1 BR RMB which I have been after for a while.. The Pullman set does look good though with your 5MT, a very nice set indeed. Hope you feel better soon and look forward to your next outing. Rgds Mark

    Hi Ian, glad to see you've got better since recording :) That rake looks nice - patience has paid off, and it's still a lot (years) quicker than waiting for new releases of them to come around!
