Terence Barrett absolute bollocks! I was raised in a 2 up, 2 down victorian townhouse in the 50s. No central heating, no double glazing, cold water only, outside toilet. Heated by only one fire downstairs which a range for cooking. No lighting apart from candles. In the winter the ice was inside the windows, frozen condensation from escaped body heat. All day Sunday was spent heating water for a bath by the fire. Running downstairs in the winter out of the cold hoping the fire was light and huddling around it until the room was warm. Everything took an age, even waiting for a kettle to boil, never mind making a meal on only one fire. It all seems romantic but I would never go back! If your house is as bad as you say, it's not technology there's something wrong with the house! But I can assure you the damp, cold houses of yesterday were NOT better. So dream in but don't move!
@@gbwildlifeuk8269 He is not talking about Victorian houses...but solid stone wall homes with fireplaces or aga where heat from chimney heated upstairs .
I would agree with you having been born in one of these houses and then living in a 1930, then Victorian house, and then 1930 again and now back to an ancestor's home. These are by far the better. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Notice there’s no alcohol being served, tea & coffee and good old styled dancing to the ruthenium of the music. This is just a glimpse of how Life was back 80/ 100 years ago in beautiful rural Ireland when People cared and shared for each other. Beautiful.
I grew up in a little village (beautiful) where everyone knew each other and, from my memory, the people were very kind and helpful. One thing that stood out was how honest the people were. Never saw alcohol abuse in home. People did not have a whole lot of material things but they didn't need it. Poetry. music, song and dance were all over the village and country and a keen interest in world affairs. Have fond memories of that little village and it's people. We were exposed to people from all over the world mostly during the summer time and we got along with everyone. Historically, like most other countries, we had "trouble" but people learned to get past it. God bless Ireland and most of all USA, the Beacon of Hope for immigrants. Blessings and slainte. Jack's old cottage...../Dec. 12th, 2020: It may happen that there are some cat lovers among the TH-cam commentators - here is one of them: You didn't react on the loud meowing of the kitties. And I am very sad because I couldn't discover any food and water bowls in this video. Obviously you don't allow the kittens to live inside your house although cats need a lot of warmth. Therefore please give them a shelter (hutch) well insulated and situated elevated, warm and comfortable (with straw) protecting them against wind, rain, snow, coldness, wild animals (for ex. raccoons) - besides food and water they are all in urgent need of this also in summer. And of course you should have them neutered resp. spayed in due time!
Dog and cat loving Americans. Our affluent livestyles created this animal worship. People who have scarce means are unable to afford to lavish all the foolishness on animals like Americans do.
That cat and his cousins, brothers, sisters....whomever are there to be " mousers" and keep additional critters and rodents away. Probably see the kitten as a working animal rather than " inside pet".
The kitten might not be starving but he's definetely not fine. Kittens normally don't run after everybody like that, neither do they meow like that for no reason, they usually just mind their own business. Plus they stay together, kittens never come to this world without several siblings, I see one other one at the most here, which looks older though anyway. So the other kittens were very likely killed at birth. That's the norm in rural areas... And to those who commented that it's about not having the means to feed the pets like "Americans" do... it's not as much to do with being able to afford foolishness, as it is about MENTALITY.
