Her conflict avoidance just prolonged the pain and misery for both of them. This isn't a court case. You don't have to have "proof" or "arguments". It's an emotional bonding between people and can end for any emotional reason. That's just it's nature. I don't really have a feeling towards OP except this went on way too long without really communicating with her ex. That is a problem she should work on if she's going to try and have another long-term partner in the future, otherwise they may all end up like this with nothing really being talked about and ex's being confused and in pain as nothing was ever made clear to them till the break-up.
