- In this video, I talk you through Section B - Composite Installation
Maximum time allowed 8hrs 30mins for AM2 and 10hrs for AM2S and AM2E.
You will be allowed a minimum of 15mins to read this section of the candidate manual and prepare for assessment.
I start by talking through the COMMON ERRORS secretion and then move on to the wiring of the lighting circuit, with provision of a neutral at each switch.
I show you how to measure the back of a 90 degree bend in metal conduit, how to find the point where the bender starts bending, and then how to work out and bend a double set to an accessory.
I then talk about bending a bubble set first, and then bending a 90 degree bend off of that with a 50mm radius/100mm diameter. I’ve just realised that I may have written that wrong in the video 😬
Then I briefly talk about doubling connectors over and show you what you should be looking for.
I hope the video helps and next I’ll be moving on to Section B - Inspection, Testing and Certification of the Composite Installation.

You also get a wiring diagram for each part of the assessment an overall one for the install then one for each individual section like the DOL starter and such its really helpful i did mine last week and got distinction it was a very intense experience and you have to be on the ball but your videos helped me a lot, i do agree the analogy you use though if your trying to get through the Am2s just watching videos your going to struggle you need to be competent as the time for each section is just enough time you cant really make any mistakes or you haven’t the time to finish although the assessor is really friendly and atmosphere is relaxed theres no pressure from the centre just get through it quick and correct following spec and diagrams and you be fine.

Would love if you do more conduit videos on 25mm but physically show the procedure if possible.

One point I would like to clarify. When data cables crosses over Low voltage AC cable in trunking, I've always found it a bit tricky with restricted space. When you mention a "Bridge", is this simply a piece of conduit or similar material, to give added insulation which is rated for "Low voltage" and ensures there is no risk of dangerous voltages appearing on the data cables. I've always assumed that inducted interference cannot be avoided at crossover points, but as the area is so tiny it's not a real problem.
The bridge is simply a piece of plastic that provides a barrier between the two categories of voltage, to avoid inducing a current.
I was taught that you can only introduce a voltage of the cables are run parallel to each other, not if they cross over at 90 degrees, but the bridge is required for the AM2, so it’s their requirement
@@Pure_electrical_training I suspect the reason is not to avoid inductance (as you say : unlikely) but to mitigate against the risk of a dangerous voltage being transferred onto the data cable - because insulation on data cables is not necessarily designed for 230V as they don't need to be, if run on their own.
I wire my 2 way and intermediate lighting different, I dont bring a neutral to every switch, I'm just wondering in the way you have shown is that a link from Com to L1 in the switch and Com to L2 in the last switch thanks
Feed into common on the first switch, L1 and L2 link over to the intermediate, then link into L1 and L2 at the last 2 way, switch wire out of the common on the last switch
Lacking neutral at switch common for years, however it's a consideration now to allow smart light switches...but also no ladder required for maintenance.... except for cost consideration... wiring domestic lights in 3 core can allow for easy mods later..but combatted by wireless switches...many solutions
Recently done my Am2s and failed certain parts one been the SWA. Now this sort of stuff is my bread and butter and I failed, do you have to identify all of the cores L1 L2 and L3 with brown sleeve? Also the grey in blue for the N?
What does BS7671 say about identifying 3-phase, as the AM2 will follow the regs

Dear Adrien I want to make a 3/4 size pipe bender using pulley roller, here need two pulley to complete that, would you tell me what are sizes pulley need to make that bender please?

You are making a pipe bender for galvanised conduit, I don’t quite understand what the pulley is for…
Is it for the bending part
I guess with the metal conduit, whether you do the 90 degree bend first or the double set, really depends on how long you need the other side of the 90 to be. Else when bending the conduit, it might hit the floor before you can get it to 90 degrees 🤔
Also with regards to cuts and marks on the former to determine the back of bend, I've never had a problem with achieving the exact measurement this way, however it only works when you place the conduit in the opposite way to how you do with the engineer square i.e. the measured end is the one being bent. That being said I only ever work with 25mm conduit, so couldn't be certain that the same is true for 20mm 🤷♂️
But for sure, my preference is doing the 90 first.
You could always put the conduit on the bottom of the bender and bend upwards
As someone who did the 2365 route before the NVQ, and as such have to do the AM2 don’t I get to play with any conduit? I know I got tested in conduit at L2 but I like playing with conduit plus the L2 conduit with the running coupler is an easier than what you are showing, it just seems silly that there is a difference.

Does anyone know if there is conduit on the AM2 I'm planning on doing this soon however I've not touched any conduit in ages.
No all containment is pre done on the am2 all you do is the wiring
I think the am2S has conduit bends in it

@@Pure_electrical_training I'm pretty decent with containment anyway it's just the conduit. I've done it for about 2 weeks in three years.
@@Pure_electrical_training I have an just about to start nvq and they stated if I have already done the am2 I will have to do an extra. Section to compensate the am2E so you are correct
When it comes to selecting protective devices, I believe you're given the cable size and type and you are supposed to select and fit the correct breaker based on cable size? I dont believe the spec tells you which breaker to fit???
Have you done the AM2, as the feedback I’ve had tells you to follow the spec 👌

Can you check out your intermediate wiring as it doesn't look correct to me. on the new type of intermediates the L1 are on the top and the L2 at the bottom. I would wire the L1 & L2 from the switch on the power side to the top L1 & L1 respectively and then wire on the lamp side L1 & L2 to the bottom L2 & L2 respectively depending on if you wanted all the the switches to be in the off or on position.
I'm afraid if I followed wiring diagram that wouldn't work.

What brand of intermediate are you using?
@@Pure_electrical_training I use the BG British General so you could be correct i suppose each brand work in different ways. I will have to buy different brands to see if this is the case. What brand does your diagram represent so I can see for myself.

If you look on the NET website it explains everything you need to know.
AM2 has no containment installation.
AM2S and AM2E have a small piece of metal and plastic conduit installation.

I don't get why you have to use the supplied tools? Surely you get used to using your own tools and that will add additional stress if you are suddenly presented with tooling that has been ragged by other students in the past!

Some people might not be able to afford decent kit and that would put them at a disadvantage

Other times, people are put forward who really shouldn’t be as they just aren’t ready, or had sufficient training.
A lot of the time you cannot blame the individual as they are trusting the system to ensure that they are in a good position.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who make money from cutting corners or cheating the systems in place and the AM2 is at the very end of the production line, so they see the end results.
