I know a lot about paso doble dancing. I am trying to know my paso doble dance vocabulary. The trends - 1. The samba botafogo is sometimes used in open paso work involving a lot of flamenco dance lines and Spanish lines. 2. The Left Foot Variation - side points that are changed from L to R or R to L in place - is a bit like the pendulum action in advanced Quickstep. 3. In the past - if you want to do the Appel, you make a loud stamp on the floor. Now, modern ballroom trends discourage noisy stamping during the Appel. The way to do this (avoid noisy stamping) is to stamp on the toe and then ball - but never use your heel first to do it. 4. When alternating Spanish Lines from one side to another, it is like practicing contra body movement needed for International Standard dancing. 5. The Fregolina was a paso move that was named for one bullfighter who invented that bull pass at the corridas. 6. When you hit the "highlights" - a pose or dance position which suddenly leads to a sudden stop in movement - treat it like an end of jazz dance - punctual, on-rhythm, and yet still theatrically dramatic. Paso is a theatrical dance so you need to express it so.
Love this solo practice routine! The use of the whole body makes it such a good workout. But because the steps are so fun, I don’t even notice I am exerting myself until that last lunge -and I’m winded!
