Suggestion for the Hoka; get a set of Dirty Girl gaiters, or similar; then crazy glue a Velcro strip vertically to heal of your shoes. These will keep small debris out of your shoes.

Thirty lbs is great for 9 days! On this trail I have been using a simple tarp as a shelter, which saves a bit of weight (but not much compared to your tent). I only hike it in low bug seasons like September and early May. Thanks for the vid, always useful to see how others pack.

I think I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to upgrading shelters (I also use the lanshan 1 pro), but I don't know if I can justify the price difference between the Xmid pro 1 and the regular Xmid 1p. And by justify I mean piss my wife off lol! Jk, she gets that im a gear head when it comes to backpacking.

In this hobby, I've learned that the moto to live by is, "buy once, cry once". You save money in the end and there's far fewer episodes with significant others!

Only 110g of gas for 9 days?

Yes, and I still had more fuel at the end. I don't drink coffee, so I am only boiling 350-450 ml per day for the dehydrated dinners.

Nope. Covid and summer heat in October were a factor, but not food. See my "Quarter Million Steps Alone" video for the hike, if interested.

"I've only used it a few times, but awesome bags ..."
A few seconds before: "I'm gonna be selling this one soon."
A few seconds before: "It's not the 2024 version, I've ordered that ..."
If it were an awesome bag, why not just use it? Why sell it soon because you've ordered another bag? How about just using gear until the ends of their lifecycles instead of treating everything as disposable and replaceable? This is the opposite of sustainable.

Gear chaser mentality I suppose. Happens to the best of us, but some people take it too far. Hopefully hes got a good reason, and gives the other pack a good home.

@@b4c0n33 as far as I'm concerned, the best gear recommendation is when I see someone using the same gear again and again for years until it's dead. Disposability is killing this planet and it's a shame people who are into outdoors pursuits buy into this bullshit of a process.

      Cool story for you:
I bought the 2024 version of the same, awesome pack because it has some improvements over my 2023 that are very important for me, namely the much larger front pocket. Anyway, I have a video comparing the two versions, so I won't go on.
Story part. The guy who bought my 2023 pack was so excited to buy it, but I'd have to pack it and ship it. He was so excited in communications that I sold it to him over easy, local buyers.
When he received it, he wrote a thankful note and told me that he and his wife would be spending next summer backpacking a 500 km trail in France with it and would send photos. Win, win. Great owner and adventure for my little used bag and I got the newer version that I am happier with.

@@Ottawa9one9 yeah the part about you being happier with the new version over the older perfectly usable version is the problem, and you can't even see it.
The planet can't sustain people like you.
