@‌ Yes! I also do batik work on fabric. Sometimes I've used a certain kistka on a silk scarf, and other times I've used a certain tjanting on my eggs! Same technique as you said.

I grew up with the story from mom's childhood about old neighbour who was the master of doing pysanky. My mom told me that her eggs were the most beautiful and kids were always running to her and watching how she was painting eggs before Easter. Yet mom didn't remember what kind of tool it was and how it exactly worked and for YEARS we tried to recreate it. Until now...
I can't wait to try and make some of them, thank u SO MUCH

My grandma was polish and brought a huge amount of these eggs back to America when she was in Poland to visit but are wooden and my mom gave be half of hers. They are beautiful and I always but them out at Easter in a Crystal dish. God Bless Ukraine and those that are suffering. I pray that the lord will cover them

My heart's hurting cause of that megalomaniac invasion and I hope that the suffering will be over soon.

If you start with basic tools (the wooden kistka, one wax disc, and food coloring from the grocery store, it's an inexpensive way to start a hobby. You'll be surprised at how lovely they'll turn out after the first few. :)

The heat tool is something I have never heard of! I haven't made pysanky in years, but I might start again. I always had trouble removing the wax without scorching the egg or burning myself when I tried using the gas stove (on med-low) to melt it off. Christ is Risen!

Surprisingly, there are ways to repair broken eggs. Lorrie, who co-authored the Beginner Pysanky book with me, has a video on her channel from another egg artist doing a demo of repairing eggs. Might be too late now, but perhaps useful for the future. th-cam.com/video/Gi5Nn50LjpM/w-d-xo.html

Yes! I love those types of eggs as well. People of Ukrainian heritage do those too. We call them "drop pull" eggs. Some call them Lemko-style eggs. When I was young, my Gram would push a dressmaker pin into the eraser of a pencil and we'd dip the head of the pin into hot wax and apply it to an egg.

I have seen this in the book series from Time/Life books called Foods of the World in the Russian Cuisine book. In the section involving the cuisine of Ukraine during the Soviet Era in the 1960's and in illustrations the book shows how to make Ukrainian Easter eggs in the traditional way with candles, wax, tools and dyes. It was very interesting and thank you for sharing this technique. I'm half Romanian so I know about traditions from the ancestral homeland.

i've heard this decoration style is Slavic, with pattern variation and name variations. i didn't know before that pisanky is from Ukraine specifically, learned something new, thank you. in Lithuania traditionally eggs are dyed, then patterns are scratched onto it with a needle ir sharp tool, revealing white shell underneath, it's called margutis, and is one of techniques used in Lithuania. i've also seen some egg patterning technique in Russia as to press beads into eggshell covered by wax. i mean, i've never been to Russia, but that sounded interesting and i tried it, it was fun. i think it's more for looking than for eating though. patterning eggs is always fun, and variety of techniques from different parts of the world (did i mean different parts of Europe? perhaps) makes it all the better. diversity is beautiful.
