Wow! Rewatched to focus on Ryan. Mendelssohn TOOK OFF when Ryan gave him "encouragement" in the last 100 or so yards. Had lots left in the tank. Lot of heart.
Mendelssohn has one helluva pedigree and seems he got all the good stuff from it. He went on to win the UAE Derby in Dubai in record time on dirt. Handsome horse.
You could be right. I'm concerned that he may have burned himself out in this race sort of like Arrogate after last year's Dubai World Cup. I don't understand why horses that are moved from turf to dirt aren't worked behind other horses to get use to the dirt in their face or mud like on a sloppy track.
kwgrid are we talking out European or American horses? I know in the states it's not uncommon for some farms to train horses together in the morning so they can get used to getting bumped by other horses and the dirt flying up into their faces and all that.
Then I don't understand why I hear about great horses that don't like dirt in their face or mud and lose races because of it. Zenyatta lost the 2010 Breeder's Cup Classic because she didn't like the dirt in her face so Mike Smith kept her further back than usual. Riva Ridge lost the Preakness and thus the Triple Crown because he didn't like the mud in his face. Not a big issue so we don't need to 'beat this horse'. :)
kwgrid Zenyatta didn't exactly lose the race cause of the kickback cause she did adjust to the kickback later on in the race to almost win it I think alot of it was more she was so far behind early that it took her awhile to catch up plus it didn't help breaking from the gate slowly caused she got squeezed. Riva Ridge ran on a sloppy Pimlico track during his lost in the Preakness not a muddy track and that was his first race in wet conditions.
Commentary at 4:48 announcer says....possible Kentucky Derby bid.....well there yw go... if this guy can rate and wait like this next week....he has a great shot
I get why Coolmore was so keen to keep trying Mendelssohn on conventional dirt in the states after his impressive win at Meydan in the UAE Derby. But after a few losses on the dirt, I'm not sure why Aidan O'Brien didn't look at his performance on turf in this race and decide to maybe give him a shot at trying to win on turf in America either at a mile or 10F.
Christopher Elmore your right he is something else.,if he runs that way ,doro or even justify have no chance ,,trust me and bolt doro is my fab even after yesterday justify is overrated I think ..
Christopher Elmore its truly a great year in racing I'm becoming more and more of a fan everyday ,,hope we can see a great derby,,i know I'm counting the days down ,,
The way he ran last week in the Travers, while not fully recovered from a lung infection going through O'Brien's yard, tells me he's no forlorn hope in this year's Breeder's Cup Dirt Classic. Or perhaps you think he shouldn't be allowed to run in that as well.

kwgrid k
Found a hole and went for it! Can't wait to see him in the Kentucky Derby. He's my top pick right now.
ok agree
patluvsvettes mine too Go Mendelssohn!!
mine too
Clearly the best stayer of his generation and still improving - wins the KD by 5. Printing money.

The horse will freak when he gets dirt in his face he's not winning the derby.

The one to beat in the Kentucky Derby 2018!
Mendelssohn, Bolt d'Oro, Justify, Audible
Mendelssohn has shown he is a true contender for a possible KD invasion. Look out.
How will he handle the dirt kickback at Churchill in a larger field Christopher?
Christopher Elmore your right he is something else.,if he runs that way ,doro or even justify have no chance ,,trust me and bolt doro is my fab even after yesterday justify is overrated I think ..
Wesley Threadgill, I still like Audible, Magnum Moon, and Good Magic. Tough horses that I think some people are sleeping on.

Wesley Threadgill yes it is. It is one of the best crop of horses I've seen in a very long time.
This horse is very talented he would win the Kentucky Derby....
it’s funny that 4 (almost 5) of these horses went to the kentucky derby
Classy colt, would have to run a brilliant race to win in Kentucky, not impossible, but unlikely
He will run a brilliant race in the KD , it's not only a possibility he'll win, it's a certainty on what I've seen in the UAE.

HOPE DO YOU COPE WITH THIS. MOST HORSES STILL HAVE RACING SHOES ON.
Jewing Ewing he's racing without shoes?
What?
20th of 20 beaten by every also run. They should pass a law no euro losers in the Ky Derby.
